So this isn't a complaint, more like a question. I am starting to new (used) car shop and the 2008 was on my list of wanting to check out. Should I completely stay away because of this brake issue? I was wanting to go with a Honda because of their reputation of reliability but am now starting to wonder.

It came out of the blue as I'm driving this loud squeking, grinding noise coming from the rear wheel of the car.I don't know nothing about cars,so I ask friends who also have accord and they said they have the same problem. It goes on and off at anytime while I was driving,so I finally took it to Honda West yesterday Monday Oct.4 and they said the rear brake wears out,so had it fix and paid $249.12.
After I mentioned this to my friend and they send me this site about class action suits on all Honda Accord model 2008 and 2009 that has rear brake pads problem. So now that I had it fix,how do I get my money back from Honda? Please give some advise.
Thanks.

well.......... i must say that AutoBeef is a very useful platform for the car owners. i gave my car for a routine service and i was ask to change the rear pads, it was kind a shock to me that how come it worn out so fast. then i got to know about carcomplaints.com and found that this is a normal complint with his model. i was worring that they might have changed mine with some ones else car.

MY BRAKES MAKE A LOUD SOUND EVERYTIME I BRAKE! IT MAKES A HUMMING SOUND ADN MY CAR BEGINS TO SHAKE.

How does a brand new car's REAR brake pads go bad so FAST? Started going bad at only 18,000 miles. All my other cars, changed the rear pads for the first time at 100,000 miles and still had some pad left. Dealer quoted a price of 290 dollars and honda is only reimburising up to 125 dollars. that doesn't even cover half. They should replace the pads and adjust the braking system free of charge. If this is how the treat their customers, this will be my FIRST and LAST Honda.

Same Honda rear brake pad wear everyone's having. Here are the details for getting your reimbursement -- just need to fill out form and mail in with your receipt: www.GirardGibbs.com/HondaBrakes.asp.

Premature Brake wear (rear). HONDA needs to recall!!!!!!
- montanoinc, Homestead, FL, US
Dealer claims that we need new pads all around and turn rotors. Quoted a ridiculous amount of $$ to fix. Same dealer told me 2 years ago that noise in front was that we needed new steering linkage on our '96 accord & quoted over $1,000 to fix. Had the rf wheel bearing repacked for less than $40 and the problem went away. Though I digress I think it shows the complicity between honda as a company and their dealers. This dealer claims that we need brakes all around and honda says that it is 'normal' for brake pads to wear out on all 4 wheels at 25,000 miles. It may be normal for honda these days but it is definitely NOT NORMAL! This means that I will have to replace the pads every 25,000 miles and replace the rotors every 50,000? This is an extremely low performance level for any vehicle. It shows that honda is not the company that they claim to be; that their quality standards have raced to the bottom. Alan at honda 800-999-1009 also refused to allow this complaint to go above him. 'No one else to speak with' and refused to disclose the honda regional rep's name or contact info.
Hear this message loud and clear straight from honda:
We don't care what our customer's think. Don't buy a honda if you don't like it!

Dealer reported that they had been noticing uneven brake wear on 2008 Accords. They installed new rear brake pads at no cost.

This the second rear brake servive in less than 60,000 miles!!! My mechanic installed the "new&improved" Honda rear pads. We will see if this really makes any significant improvement on premature wear. The front pads were checked for wear and still have ~50% left. This is a real design flaw for Honda brakes!!!!!!!! Honda should learn from Toyota and recall the brake system and readjust the EBD for free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rear brakes started squeeking. Really bad. Afraid to drive so took it to get repaired near me. PAID out of pocket. Tried to get money back from Honda. Called 800 number. They suck.. Made me get all this paperwork done. Then, said they can't help me now b/c of class action lawsuit. Now have to fill out more paperwork. Jerks!!!

I'm very frustrated with the fact of having to replace brakes on a $33,000 dollar car with only 30,000 miles. The dealership where I bought the car said this wasn't under warranty even though I paid for the extra coverage.

I have a leased 2008 Honda Accord. I really like this car, but, the brakes are a real problem. I have never owned a car that the brakes had to be replaced at 25,000 miles. Honda wanted $800.00 to replace the front brakes and rotors. I said WHAT? are you kidding me? I bought new rotors and ceramic pads at PepBoys for $171.00 and my son installed them for me. It took him less than an hour to complete the job. I'm going to complain to Honda, but, I know that it will be fruitless. When my lease is up, they are going to get this car back. I will warn everyone I know about how Honda is doing nothing about this issue. And I know Toyota has their problems, but at least they do what they can to make things right. Soon to be X-honda owner. I'm going back to SUBARU! YEAH!

Who knew? I drove my 2008 Honda to Memphis for a vacation after I had my son replace the front brakes, 1 week later he replace the rear brakes. They were making this herendous noise. I couldn't figure out what it was until I started researching the internet concerning the problem and discovered that it must be the rear brakes, Lo and behold, the rear brakes were metal on metal. Thank goodness the rotors were okay so they didn't have to be replaced like the front were. As soon as my lease is up I'm going to the nearest Subaru dealership and get an Outback.

I had constant problems with the front brakes which they fixed the first 2 times , but the 3rd time I had to go to mineke. Then my car started squeaking in the front which is the lower left control arm. That cost over $100.00 for the part only and another $200 for labor. Honda lost a class action suit which will reemburst you $150.00 of the cost of repairs for the rear brakes, however they charge over $300.00 in the honda dealer for the repair. Why can't just make it a recall like Toyota did. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN.
- Guy P., Ossining, NY, US
So someone riddle me this. The brakes were recalled but they are costing me $407 to replace and Honda won't pay because of class action suit. If you file the paperwork from the suit you may get a whole $150 back. If I had brought my car in for service before the lawsuit, they would have covered the entire cost. How fair is this?

I bought a 2008 Honda accord Dec of 2007, after driving for about 10000-20000 km I noticed the breaks started to squeak. I decided to keep driving with it and didn't take it in right away because the noise would stop after the car warmed up, but as the km started adding on the noise got worse and started to last longer. I got fed up and took it in, they told me it was normal and it was just dust and dirt. I knew this was BS but what could I do, after taking it back the sound getting worse and worse so I took it back in. The km at this time was about 35000-40000km so they told me that it was time to replace the breaks pads anyways so I did, it cost me about $300. After driving it a few more km I noticed the sound was still there, I was extremely upset and angry. Soon after I got a letter in the mail saying if I own a 2008 accord I can get the front pads replaced for free and get 50% back on any work done earlier. When I went to the dealership they ended up replacing all 4 pads and rooters. And I still got my 50% back for what I paid earlier.
My family has purchased 4 Honda vehicles all brand new and I have never had to deal with this type of quality before. It's a shame. Not only that but my car now is having starting problems and I just took it in they are going to replace the VCT (or something) which is still under warranty but my car is about to go aver 60,000km I'm afraid of what problem I'm going to occur next.

Left Rear wheel started making a grinding sound at about 25 mph and up, It would come and go. Sometimes applyng brakes would stop it, sometimes not. 2 weeks later right side started. Took it to shop and they said it was brakes and then told me about the Class action suit against Honda. Class action site suggest this site. Waiting to see results prior to fixing it.

Heard horrible noise coming from rear when I stepped on brakes. Took it to a break shop and they replaced all my breaks. My rear right breaks were really bad, rotor relpaced. I In addition to replacing my breaks, they also stated that all of my struts needed to be replaced.I decided not to do it becuase it was just too expensive ($1200.00).
I am going to get a second opinion from a Honda dealer in the near future. Anyone else experiencing premature break wearing on their 2008 Accord? I can't believe that my car is so new and I am having to do a lot of work on a fairly new car.
- Lacey S., Temple, TX, US
My rear brakes were worn out at 59,000 KM. I paid $380.00 to have the dealer replace the brakes and turn the rotors. 55,000 KM later my brakes are worn out again, the dealer says that there is nothing wrong with the calipers, so it will cost me $500.00 to replace the brakes with new rotors. What a scam. Is there anything I can do?
