Rear brakes grinding at 16k miles. Needed pads replaced. Honda service was able to get 1/2 of cost covered because of early wear. About $100 out of my pocket. They did note that this has been an ongoing problem with the 08 accords...

I started hearing a noise about 2 weeks ago coming from the rear driver side wheel. I brought the car into a Honda Dealership this past weekend and was told that my rear brakes had to be replaced. I told the guy he had to be kidding me, the car is a front wheel drive car and the front brakes should need replacing before the rear. Unfortunatly I did not have the money to fix the brakes($160.00). We had another mechanic ( he has nothing to do with Honda) look at the brakes. He showed me that the driver side inside brake pad was almost completely worn to the metal. Remaining 3 pads had normal wear and tear. Honda wants me to replace my brake pads with another set of deficient brake pads. Are they kidding me??

I have had 2 Honda vehicles prior to this one. (Civic & Accord) and this never has happened before. I called Honda Corporate on Monday and I was told that someone would call me in 1 to 2 days with answers to my questions. They finally called me back today. They basically told that he couldn't answer any of my questions. That there was no recall for my vehicle. I told them about the website and that I am not the only person with this problem. They told me there was nothing they could do and it was my responsiblity to have the brakes replaced. So When I get to 50,000 miles I will have to have my brakes replaced again.

I also found a lawyer in California that has or is going to file a class action law suit against honda for this problem. I am just afraid people will have to die before they recall the braking system. Does anyone remember Ford Explorer and the huge recall with the tires.... Alot of people died before they recalled the tires.....

So unfortunatly I have to replace the rear brakes because I need my car for work. But I will tell you this. I will never ever buy another honda again. Their cars are getting worst and so is the customer service. Honda has lost another loyal customer due to the stupidity and stubborness for not recognizing their is a bigger problem.

At this point I have filed several complaints on as many websites as I could find. I have also filed a complaint with the BBB and called the local news station. This is just so frustrating!!! I pay for my car every month and now I have to pay out more money to fix something that should be under warranty.

Car started making a squealing noise when I was driving not braking. At the dealer I was informed that it was the rear brake pads that needed to be replaced. This made no sense because they were replaced at 21,000 miles. I had the dealer check the calipers, and emergency brake to make sure that nothing was sticking or pulling. They once again said it was the rear brake pads that are at 2 and my fronts are at 8, which makes no sense since the fronts have 75% of the stoping power. At the dealer I was told by a service rep that this is a design flaw and having the rear brakes replaced this often is common in this particular matter.

I personally think that Honda should address this issue by having a recall. The customer shouldn't have to pay for wear and tear because of the manufacturers design flaw.

I am very disappointed at this point with my car.

Today I had to replace my rear brakes again at 34K mi. The first set was replaced at 22K mi. I regret I bought this car. This is my 4th Accord. Unfortunately I talked my friend at work into getting an Accord Coupe last year. I wished I never did that.

It seems like Honda doesn't give a hoot about what their loyal customers think. I can't imagine replacing the brake pads every 20K mi at $150 each time. Then after 3 or 4 times u have to replace the rotors because they turn the rotors each time they change brake pads. What I did today was telling my mechanic not to turn the rotors, because it has been only 12k mi since the last brake job. Beware the new rotors will cost you literally an arm and a leg.

If Honda doesn't make good by recalling the rear brake system and replace it with a new one that doesn't wear out every 15 to 20k mi, my next car will NOT BE a Honda. I paid $28,000 for my car and this is what I get?? Go to hell Honda!!! Ya you can say that again, I am ANGRY!!!!

Same as all others - Rear Brakes shot at only 15k miles. Dealership would do nothing under warranty and wanted $300 to replace. My first Accord adn first trip to "Honda" service. Very disappointed. Went to third party and got ceramic pads for $230. Front brakes showed almost no wear. Jeez, think there is a design problem??

Like many on here, I too have experienced the noisy wear of the rear brakes and had mine replaced. I have only had this car for 2 years and already is giving me problems. This problem is annoying, time and money consuming. Honda needs to act on this issue NOW. This problem is not something that should be over looked. If Honda does not want to have lawsuits left and right, they should act on this problem PRONTO!!!

At about 23,000 miles the brakes started grinding in the rear. I took it to the dealership and asked for warranty on the brakes. Honda Canada covered a complete rear brake job including machining the rotors and replacing the pads. I had gotten all the recommended services done at this dealership so far which I think is a factor when they decide if they will cover you.

Accord EX 4 cyl

My first Honda was a 2002 Accord which I replaced last October with a 2008 Accord. Last week at 19,000 miles the rear brakes began squeaking. I found many many of the same complaints online. I spoke with the Honda service department where I bought the car and complained. I said it is ridiculous to have to pay for new brakes so soon! I switched to Honda to avoid these type of problems. They basically said they are aware of premature break wear and there will not be a recall since it is not a safety issue, and they are discounting 50% for new brake service. That would still be about $90 of $180. I asked if I should expect the same issue every 19,000 miles and they said 'Yes'. They should replace them for free! So I got Wagner Thermo Quiet pads and had a local mechanic put them on for a total cost of $70. I will not buy another Honda for myself or anyone in my family if they don't resolve this to my satisfaction (read reimbursement). Also, my cousin just told me that he heard this is a problem with the supplier of the brake pads to Honda where the material was too soft and that Honda is replacing the inventory with better pads. Has anyone else heard this?

For the longest time, the word Honda was synonymous with quality. Obviously not the case any more. It's the small things that matter........like not having to replace brakes and/or rotors every 20k miles. At what point does Honda decide that sacrificing quality is a good idea. I have a '98 Honda Accord and an '08 Honda Accord. If I have to replace brakes every 20k miles, the amount of money that I spend on maintaining the new car will be more than I have ever spent on the old car. Hopefully people keep complaining and don't give up like Honda would like them to. There are several ways to complain.....BBB, attorney general, or just annoy the hell out of them on a daily basis.

SAME THING AS EVERYONE ELSE HERE...! JUST HAD THE GRINDING NOISE ON MY BRAKES ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO...! I OWNED A 2008 HONDA ACCORD WITH ONLY 19,000 MILES ON IT AND IT'S ALREADY A PAIN IN THE "BLANK." MY BRAKES SQUEAK HORRIBLY LOUD AND IT IS EMBARRASSING DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH A NEW CAR THAT MAKES LOUDER NOISE WHEN COMPARED WITH OLDER CARS. I'M GOING TO CALL THE DEALER TOMORROW TO SEE IF THEY WILL REPAIR IT AS IT IS A MANUFACTURER FAILURE. HOWEVER, I AM HAVING HINTS THAT NOTHING WILL BE DONE BY THE DEALER NOW THAT I'VE READ ALL THESE COMPLAINTS...! IF ANYONE KNOWS OF A POSSIBLE RECALL FROM HONDA THEN LET ME KNOW...!

Accord EX V4

2008 Honda Accord EX V4 had to replace the rear brakes at approximately 25,000 miles. The dealer wanted $200.00 to replace them but after I said that I would take the vehicle to an independent mechanic they offered to charge me $100.00. The amount is fair but I am really disappointed at the quality of Honda. I have owned many vehicles foreign and domestic and have never had to replace the rear brakes before 60k miles. I am sure that I will have to be replacing the brake pads every 25K and it sucks. The rear brakes were replaced in September, now it is November and yesterday the front brake pads started squeaking which is the indication they need to be replaced before the rotors are damaged (the vehicle now has approx 26K miles).

For future Honda Accord owners (2009-2010) be aware that the rear and front pads and possibly the calipers on current Honda Accords not only the 2008 model are defective and you will have to replace both front and back approximately every 25K. If you are ready for the expense go ahead it's your choice. I am not going to tell you the car is not a good car at all, but in addition to this this model has had other defects that the dealer has not been able to fix and American Honda has done nothing to solve the problem.

When on the market for a new car I will strongly consider looking at a Toyota. Good luck! hope this review(s) help you choose better your next car.

I have seen all the other complaints about the rear brake wear. My brake condition is the front brakes are fine , but the rear brakes are wearing more than the front and will need attention in the future. I have never heard of rear brakes wearing out so fast. Is there a class action law suite in the process?

Accord EX-L V6

  • 25,500 miles

Started hearing a squealing noise from the rear of the car about 2 weeks ago. Was sporadic - came and went. Got worse last couple days. Took in to the dealership today and told the service manager what I was hearing. He had me pre-sign a work order for rear brake replacement "just in case" it turned out to be the pads. I indicated I would be really surprised if that was the case as the car was only 2 years old with only 25K miles on it. Explained I'd never owned a new car that had the brakes go out that quickly.

An hour later they told me "yep - it's the rear brake pads" which need replacing. Was shocked. Total labor/parts cost was $150. Figured I just had bad fortune as the new 2008 model was completely new when purchased in November of 2007 (just off the line - one of the first).

Then I read all the complaints everyone else was having. Just joined the 2008 Accord break club for $150. Are there any other membership perks?

I bought a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe EX-L. I am at 48,000 miles and are on my third set of brakes. My first pair went at 17,000 miles and my second went at 31,000. When getting my third pair I went to a family friend who is a Certified Honda mechanic and he said that a pin in the brakes was sticking and grinding down the brakes very quickly. He fixed this problem and I have had no troubles since. Honda did not pick up the bill on any of my brakes and explained to me that this is everyday wear and tear. I also spoke to someone who told me that they needed to have their rotors replaced after the first 13,000 miles. i would tell anyone interested in buying this car to wait until Honda makes the corrections needed not to have this keep happening. There are 23 Hondas in my family and I have told everyone not to buy a new Accord strictly for this reason.

Accord EX-L 4 cyl 190 Hp

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

Took my Honda Accord in to the shop today because the brakes were squealing and found out that the car needs new rear pads already (down to 1 mm, fronts are at 7 mm). The car has 38,000 miles but is only about 18 months old and is primarily used for highway driving. Found out that I am not alone and that all 8th generation Honda Accords are having premature brake failure. It is frustrating that Honda will not back their product and help cover the cost of this repair.

I will not be buying a Honda again. Would have considered it if they stepped up to the plate on this issue but they have chose not to so I will take my money elsewhere next time. This is unacceptable.

This is my second Accord and my last. I will never buy another Honda. MY 2003 gave me no troubles at all. Just the normal wear and tear. However, I had to have this 08 piece of S--T. I have had nothing but problems with the car. My face is well known i the service department. I will continue to be just as big of a pain in there ass as they are in mine. Accord LX 2.7L 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,233 miles

Went in for an oil change and was told that the rear break pads were low. I found that to be incredulous as generally, 1)Front brakes wear out faster than rear brakes and 2) I stopped driving backwards to keep the mileage down on the odometer for resale purposes years ago. Clearly there is a weakness in the braking system that Honda wants the consumer to pay for rather than the company. They are aware of it and I know that they are hiding the fact. The dealership told me that I needed the brake pads changed even before the car was on the lift. The company, Honda has lost credibility with me. I will take the car for a second opinion. I will not replace the pads with Honda if they need to be changed.

Update from Mar 22, 2010: I went to the dealer at 21250 miles because I heard the chirping of the sensor loudly to have the rear brakes repaired and it was done at no charge under the warranty, and, "1 time goodwill" program. The pads were deemed defective. I suggest that other people with the same problem seek out the corporate offices for reimbursement or a credit. I thank everyone who made a stink, alerted the public and Honda to this problem so that a wrong might be rectified to the satisfaction of the consumer. Thanks once again and let's all keep on bitching till they get it right!
