I have owned so many Hondas I have lost count buying new ones as well as used ones for the children to drive. I have never had to replace any brakes less than 50,000 miles, usually more towards 80,000 miles. This car lasted 26,000 and like a lot, the inside rear pad was worn out while the outside only shows normal wear. The dealer put on new ones at a discount price of $80 to show good customer appreciation. I registered a complaint with Honda-USA and was told that Honda had "issues and unfavorable conditions" with the brakes and were working on the problem. I traded a 2006 Accord and wish now I had never done that as it was a better vehicle. On another web site I found, it is highly recommended everyone write Honda Corporate at the following address:

Mr. Takanobo Ito, President and CEO

Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

2-Chome Minato-ku

Luckily I found this site before I went in, it helped cushion the below. I told the tech I had a feeling the scraping sound I heard was brake wear. He then told me based on the mileage I had driven (25k!) that is was time for me to get my brakes replaced. Sure enough the right rear was down to the sensor. Goodbye $270. Unbelievable!

After taking my car to my mechanic to have my tires rotated today he mentioned to be that Honda 2008 Accords were having premature ware on the rear brakes. He told me that he would look at my rear brakes and after doing so he said that I would have to have my rear brake pads replaced with in 2000 miles! I only have 9000 miles on the car now. He told me the inner rear brake pad was worn down much more than the outer pad. I could not believe that rear brakes could go out that soon.unless there is some kind of a defect with the rear brake system. I have owned 4 Honda's in the past and never had rear brakes go that soon. The calipers look like the size of my Prelude on the rear of my 2008 Accord which is much larger of a car. What a joke! I called Honda and filed a complaint. They told me to bring my Honda to the dealership when I need the rear brakes fixed. I said in no way would I have Honda replace the brakes with their Honda parts and be back again in a year and go thru the same crap that their putting on plus the cost. They told me that they are trying to come up with a solution by the end of the year. In the mean time I am going to try and keep my miles down and hold out as long as I can and for Honda to step up to the plate and fix this problem or this will forever be my last Honda.

Took wife's 2008 Honda accord out today and noticed intermittent squeaking/metal grinding sound. Took it back home and isolated trouble to the rear (driver side wheel...may have been both rear wheels). I removed rear wheel and noticed very little wear on the outer break pad, but the inner pad was almost gone. It turns out the squeak/grinding was from the break sensor. I took the car to our local Honda dealership and they quickly isolated the trouble as break wear and replaced the rear pads for $140.00 bucks (not bad...but don't feel i should be putting new breaks on with 21000 miles.) I spoke to the service manager and he told me that the Honda accord breaks 70% from the rear breaks. I don't know this to be true but is the 1st ive ever heard of that. I also spoke to a buddy that is a mechanic and he advised the only reason the inner pad would wear more than the outer pad is if the piston on the caliper was seized up. The Honda service manager never mentioned this to me, and i will get with them tomorrow on the issue. I have been a Honda owner for many years and have had several Honda's in the past and none have ever had this issue. I hope Honda corrects this issue.

This is our 4th accord but the first problem we had ever. rear brakes were totally worn out at 26000miles and had no other option other than replacing them. I know i am not as hard on brakes to bring down their life in half. of course my other car which is a new civic has about 30000miles with no issues. hope Honda does something to fix the rear brake pad issues with the new accords

Heard a noise from the rear brakes and brought my car to my mechanic. He said that the pads were gone as were the rotors. He asked if I had been driving around with my emergency brake on as the front pads were hardly worn. Honda made their rep on a good car with a low cost to own. Not any more! If they don't resolve this soon, I'll never buy another Honda and will look elsewhere for another car.

  • 30,000 miles

Bought my wife a 2008 Accord. Had 8,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. After the deal is done, the dealership gives us the paperwork that comes with the car. Service records indicate that the vehicle has had the brakes serviced 3 times in 8,000 miles. Well after driving it for a couple days the brakes started squeaking fairly loudly. Sucks to have a brand new car that sound worse than my 11 year old civic. We took it in to First Team Honda in Chesapeake, Va. What a bunch of idiots.... They told me that the squeaking was normal. But they also said they couldn't get it to squeak. I guess they didn't drive it! I asked the service coordinator did I have dumbass written on my forehead since he said the squeaking was normal. He also told me they "lubricated the brakes" and everything should be fine. Since they said there was nothing else they could do we left with the car and the squeaky brakes. After 6 months I took it back and got the same run around. I called Honda North America to complain and they acknowledged there was a problem and indicated there would most likely be a recall. I called First Team Honda back again to tell them about the issue and of course they played dumb. Or maybe they are just dumb and weren't playing. They said they had no knowledge of any brake issues. Retards... Anyway, at 30,000 the pad sensor started hitting the rotor and I knew it was time to change the rear pads. The inside rear pads were completely shot while the outside still had plenty of life left. Totally ridiculous that I'm changing REAR pads this early. This recall cant get here soon enough. I hate to think that i'll have to do this every 25k to 30k miles. Disappointed in Honda for this issue which is taking way too long to be rectified. If you have a problem acknowledge it, then fix it. Even more disappointed in First Team Honda in Chesapeake, Va. The service guy is lucky I didnt leave him with a fat lip and a black eye.

My 2008 Accord EX V6 is requiring rear brake pad replacement AT ONLY 30000 miles! This is absolutely ridiculous. I've never had rear brakes go out so quickly on any car I've owned. I drive my cars very modestly. On top of that my front rotors already need to be turned. I've had a shimmy in my steering wheel probably since 25,000 miles. This is unacceptable under the quality that Honda is supposed to represent. I certainly EXPECT Honda will do something about this. Whatever the solution is they need to tend to it and soon. I'm seeing people jump ship on their Accords and I might just do the same. I've owned many Honda's over the years. It's a shame that Honda can produce a product like this.

Started to hear an intermittent metallic, scraping sound 2 days ago. Seemed to go away completely at times, and at other times, turning into a squeaking/squealing sound with the scraping sound. Called the dealership (Honda of Pasadena CA) who stated that this was most likely normal brake wear and would not be covered under my warranty (Car was purchased in April 2008). Took the car into Midas who stated that the rear brakes were completely shot and front were in excellent condition. Paid approx. $200 to have rotors resurfaced and new rear brakes/pads. The mechanic at Midas stated that he has seen this premature wear several times on the rear brakes of newer Accords. Called the dealership back to tell them my issue, they still said that this is normal. Clearly, it's not, as I've never had brakes wear so quickly and why would the front be in such good condition and the rear completely in need of replacement??? I was advised by the dealership to call American Honda and file a complaint, which I did. Honda states that they need 1% of the owners to complain about a particular problem before a notice is sent out. Therefore, since there is obviously several 2008 Accord owners with similar problems, let's call Honda and get the word out. I, for one, bought a Honda to avoid this type of problem. Sadly, this is not what I expected with the purchase of my new Accord.

Yep me too. New rear pads at $16k. Complained to Honda USA and they gave me a $125 off my next service letter. I guess that wil pay for half of the next brake job, which is right around the corner. On other websites I researched others are saying what's the big deal - only 300 people are complaining and Honda has sold over 100,000 units. How many are there like me that never posted before? How many just shelled out the bucks no questions asked? I just registered on the attorney's website for the class action. Hope to hear more soon.

Today I was lucky enough to put on my second set of brakes at 40,000 miles. The first time we did was at 17,000 miles but we had a seventeen year old also driving the car car so the benefit of doubt was given. She is now in college and has only drove the car about 3 times and the noise started last week. We have paid Brandon Honda 178.00 each time. I have also changed the front brakes but we went after market porcelain for the front. I did that earlier this week.I thought my Jaguar were labor intensive and i guess I was wrong. Jaguar takes care of everything for 50,000 miles. I telling you everything like batteries, brakes, oil changes even wiper blades. What a mistake to buy this car

I was driving my 2008 honda accord 12700 miles and heard this noise coming from the right front side. I took it to a mech. thinking it had something to do with my brakes, not believing I needed brakes, but maybe some dirt or small rock got into the brakes. They only looked at the front brakes and told me that there was nothing wrong with them and I should take it back to the dealer. I took it to the dealer and was told that it was the back brakes and I needed the rotors cut. I told them what kind of brakes are on the car to need brakes at such a low mileage and then to need back brakes! She informed me that 2008 honda are equipped with a new breaking system that brakes with the rear system first. I complained and they gave me a one time partial warranty discount and told her that I was going to file a complaint with the Highway safety commission.

Ok I've had my car for just a little bit over one year and last month my car was making some screetching noise. It has been raining alot here in Central Pa so I blamed it on the rain. It has been dry for some time now and now my car is screetching nonstop and its so embarassing. In the past I've had cars for years w/o changing brakes. I finally called the dealership today and complained about this issue and they "say" there will be a solution come Dec 09. I made an appointment to have it looked at but after reading several complaints, I absolutly refuse to pay anything! The lady told me that this is a Honda issue and by replacing pads or rotars will not fix the noise or problem. Not sure if they will even consider recalling the cars, but they should. She said since it's not a "safety issue" it's highly unlikely. That's bull crap! I'm very very upset that my one year old car sounds worse than our 9 year old beater car!

I took my 08 Accord in for an oil change, The service tech.came out and told me my rear brakes were down to the sensors.I told him they can't be it only has 25,000 mostly highway miles on it.Besides I've 4 other Accords and the front always go first. He told me for $229.00 they could replace them with Honda factory parts.(Like they lasted so long the first time) I took it to a shop I TRUST. Both rear inner pads were worn down to the sensors and the outer pads still had 4-5mm left.(Almost half) They also told me uneven wear like that is uncommon.I was told something has to be wrong with the calipers or my parking brake was left on.We don't EVER use the parking brake.

I'm not happy Honda won't own up to their mistake and offer to fix a problem they are well aware of

It's even worst than the alternative.

Honda, Reliable, WRONG! they do not make hondas the way they use to. Honda is taking advantage of American car companies vulnerability now and us by shubbing us UNRELIABLE products because they know we do not really have a choice. Time to look at Chevy. I took my 2008 Accord in for it regular maintenance at 23,000 miles and I was shocked when the service rep came and said I needed to replace my rear brake pads at a cost of $181.00! I could not believe what he was telling me, he said that they have noticed that the 2008 models rear brake are needing to be replaced every 20,000 to 25,000 miles. He suggested that I contact Honda USA and see if they could or would help me. Honda recorded my complaint but told me that there was nothing they could or would do to rectify this issue. I have just submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and I called my cousin in Florida who was going to purchase a 2009 Accord this weekend and told her not to!
