I was driving on the highway last week and my steering kept sticking. It-??s like having to constantly adjust and you can feel the steering stick. Now it-??s happening even in town while driving. I reached out to Steve Padgett Honda in Irmo SC and they said it-??s not a known issue. I beg to differ. I decided to google to see what might be the problem And was overwhelmed by all of the information I have found. Including the fact that it IS a known issue to Honda. I think it-??s dangerous! TY for any help.

Steering has become intermittently "sticky" in the last year. The vehicle has 12,000 miles on it. The dealer says the EPS Steering rack is the cause and needs replacing at owner's cost.

Steering is "sticking" when driving above 35 mph which requires some effort to overcome and when it "unsticks" results in over correction. Also makes an audible noise when "unsticks" First noticed a year ago. It subsided but now has returned and is worse than before.

The steering on this vehicle became -"sticky-" and requires extra force to pull it from the center position. This little bit of extra force causes overcorrection of the vehicle making it unstable and unsafe. Dealer wants $3500 to fix a premature and unsafe electronic steering issue. Vehicle has not been crashed or damaged in any way. i have contacted American Honda but they will not fix the problem, answering( sorry, but your vehicle is out of warranty). Problem has been reproduced by dealer, no warning light on vehicle.

After using the LKAS at 36,300 miles I observed stickiness in the steering wheel. I drove it for awhile but the stickiness makes it difficult to steer and could cause an accident. I took it to the dealer and now at 37,000 miles it needs a complete rack and pinion steering assembly at almost $4000 dollars. I have been driving cars since the 1970's and this is the first steering issue I have encountered. You would think that steering would be a system they have mastered by now. I also know that slightly older Honda CRV's (IE, 2018 model year) have been recalled for an issue like this due to improper heat treatment of the gears in the rack and pinion system. My guess is that the same parts in that model year are also in the 2019 model and it should b added to the recall as well. This system should not fail at only 37,000 miles.

In November of 2023, I started having a noise in the front end of my 2019 Honda CRV. I took it into the local Honda dealership and was told that I had a bad power steering rack. They replaced the steering gear box. I was concerned that a vehicle with only 34,000 miles on it would have such an important component break so soon. I looked on [XXX] & saw there were multiple reports of the same thing occurring on other same year, low mileage cars. There were reports on the same website that indicated some had actual problem when steering. I reported it to American Honda, they were responsive, but I did not know that this was the group that needed to be alerted to the problem. So, I am addressing it now. Thanks for your time. Car has a steering problem. After driving for a while at highway speeds, the steering "catches" or is "sticky" where it takes extra effort to make even minor adjustments. The car has been doing this for approximately 10K miles (one year) and is making us nervous about taking any long road trips at highway speeds. The car is out of warranty and the dealer is indicating the electric power steering unit is probably at fault, but will not honor a safety replacement and will charge approximately $3500 for replacement.. This certainly should be honored as a recall safety problem.

Starting at just over 36,000 miles after the last time I used LKAS there is now a stickiness in the steering. Light catches that almost seem like the LKAS is still trying to correct. I can overcome the catches, but makes the steering less comfortable than it should be and worry about worsening issue. Will be taking the car in for service but have seen may issues related to steering on this model of car, so wanted to make sure all complaints are noted by NHTSA. No warning lights are showing.

While driving the car at highway speed the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power to all essential functions. The engine shutdown and there was no steering and loss of some of the brake functions. Multiple warnings started showing ( too many to list here ). The car came to a stop partially in the highway and we experienced several near misses by passing vehicles before we could get enough assistance to push the vehicle out of the roadway. Since this incident a simple search has shown that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. It appears that it could be a problem with the computer software. This problem has a very high potential for serious injury or death when it occurs while driving at highway speeds. Please look into this issue as soon as possible.

I live in Puerto RIco. I was just quoted $3,000 for new Rack and Pinion. Vehicle always maintained correctly and almost new, not even 5 years. Honda knows that this problem with the Rack and Pinions exist and is a safety concern and issue. Other three vehicles in the dealer repair shop with the same issue, one of them with only 900 miles. Other customers had to pay full price. Honda knows about this problem, a recent recall for Civics was announced for their Rack and Pinions. Many Rack and Pinions have problems and Honda has not recalled this part for CRVs. I change engine oil every 3,000 miles with high quality Synthetic oil. Honda original filter. Changed Transmission oil every 30,000 miles and coolant as well. This is a SAFETY, a costly part the Honda knows is faulty and should be recalled immediately. I'm a customer that bought this Honda CRV-Touring expecting the quality and reliability that Honda has claimed. Today I received the news of a gas pump recalled, and a prematurely faulty Rack and Pinion. This is just unbelievable. I'm writing in the hopes of some good news from Honda to replace my Rack and Pinion before an accident happens. I'm still paying for this vehicle. Waiting for your prompt response, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

2019 CRV After recent service (May 2023 63,000 miles) We had oil change/tire rotation. We noticed about a week later the car would make a clicking sound when turning to the left and the steering wheel would stick where it wouldn't move. We called the dealership where all service has been performed. We brought it in on the 19th of June and 2 techs and an advisor said they drove it and could not duplicate the problem. We drove off and first turn that was made the clicking sound happened and the steering wheel would stick in place. I was asked to bring in back in after complaining that it was still having the same issue. Within 30 mins I was told the power steering rack would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,110. I said this car is 4 years old and it already need 15% of its value in repairs? I am still paying on it. The dealership just said this is what is wrong with it and this is how much it is to repair. I called corporate Honda and told them I didn't believe this was something that should be tearing up at 60k miles. They talked to the dealer and said they will pay for 60% of it but I'm still on the hook for $1400. Looking at other complaints here it seems this should be a recall and covered by Honda. I advise everyone to buy an extended warranty because this is not part of the powertrain. The replaced part is only covered for 12 months 12,000 miles.

The steering has been "sticky" when turning and has gotten increasingly more difficult to turn and has been not operating correctly, meaning you don't know if you are going to need to overcompensate or under. We took it into the dealership for the fuel pump recall and they couldn't identify the problem. We told them to keep it for a day or two and keep trying. My wife went in and did a test drive with the foreman and he said the power rack steering and the sensors were failing and it would need to be replaced. The service advisor said it was fine to drive as my wife had a conference three hours away, but after having the car back for a week it had gotten noticeable worse with creaks and clicks when turning in particular. I called and spoke to the service manager and he said that he would not drive it to the conference, so it is basically unsafe to drive at this point as we don't know when it will fail or what kind of accident we could get in while driving it. There were no lights or warning to indicate the failure and as I said, the technician and service advisor at first couldn't identify the problem, but we are all in agreement that the steering is failing.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became very stiff. The vehicle was parked at the residence. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started the following day, there was a clicking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic steering gearbox had overheated, and that the steering rack assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 54,054.
