Car has a steering problem. After driving for a while at highway speeds, the steering "catches" or is "sticky" where it takes extra effort to make even minor adjustments. The car has been doing this for approximately 10K miles (one year) and is making us nervous about taking any long road trips at highway speeds. The car is out of warranty and the dealer is indicating the electric power steering unit is probably at fault, but will not honor a safety replacement and will charge approximately $3500 for replacement.. This certainly should be honored as a recall safety problem.

Starting at just over 36,000 miles after the last time I used LKAS there is now a stickiness in the steering. Light catches that almost seem like the LKAS is still trying to correct. I can overcome the catches, but makes the steering less comfortable than it should be and worry about worsening issue. Will be taking the car in for service but have seen may issues related to steering on this model of car, so wanted to make sure all complaints are noted by NHTSA. No warning lights are showing.

While driving the car at highway speed the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power to all essential functions. The engine shutdown and there was no steering and loss of some of the brake functions. Multiple warnings started showing ( too many to list here ). The car came to a stop partially in the highway and we experienced several near misses by passing vehicles before we could get enough assistance to push the vehicle out of the roadway. Since this incident a simple search has shown that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. It appears that it could be a problem with the computer software. This problem has a very high potential for serious injury or death when it occurs while driving at highway speeds. Please look into this issue as soon as possible.

I live in Puerto RIco. I was just quoted $3,000 for new Rack and Pinion. Vehicle always maintained correctly and almost new, not even 5 years. Honda knows that this problem with the Rack and Pinions exist and is a safety concern and issue. Other three vehicles in the dealer repair shop with the same issue, one of them with only 900 miles. Other customers had to pay full price. Honda knows about this problem, a recent recall for Civics was announced for their Rack and Pinions. Many Rack and Pinions have problems and Honda has not recalled this part for CRVs. I change engine oil every 3,000 miles with high quality Synthetic oil. Honda original filter. Changed Transmission oil every 30,000 miles and coolant as well. This is a SAFETY, a costly part the Honda knows is faulty and should be recalled immediately. I'm a customer that bought this Honda CRV-Touring expecting the quality and reliability that Honda has claimed. Today I received the news of a gas pump recalled, and a prematurely faulty Rack and Pinion. This is just unbelievable. I'm writing in the hopes of some good news from Honda to replace my Rack and Pinion before an accident happens. I'm still paying for this vehicle. Waiting for your prompt response, Alejandro Figueroa

The steering on this vehicle became -??sticky-?? and requires extra force to pull it from the center position. This little bit of extra force causes overcorrection of the vehicle. Dealer was unable to reproduce while under warranty but now with 47000 miles says that it needs a steering gear. Vehicle has not been crashed or damaged in any way. American Honda will not fix the problem. Problem has been reproduced by dealer, no warning light on vehicle.

2019 CRV After recent service (May 2023 63,000 miles) We had oil change/tire rotation. We noticed about a week later the car would make a clicking sound when turning to the left and the steering wheel would stick where it wouldn't move. We called the dealership where all service has been performed. We brought it in on the 19th of June and 2 techs and an advisor said they drove it and could not duplicate the problem. We drove off and first turn that was made the clicking sound happened and the steering wheel would stick in place. I was asked to bring in back in after complaining that it was still having the same issue. Within 30 mins I was told the power steering rack would need to be replaced at a cost of $3,110. I said this car is 4 years old and it already need 15% of its value in repairs? I am still paying on it. The dealership just said this is what is wrong with it and this is how much it is to repair. I called corporate Honda and told them I didn't believe this was something that should be tearing up at 60k miles. They talked to the dealer and said they will pay for 60% of it but I'm still on the hook for $1400. Looking at other complaints here it seems this should be a recall and covered by Honda. I advise everyone to buy an extended warranty because this is not part of the powertrain. The replaced part is only covered for 12 months 12,000 miles.

The steering has been "sticky" when turning and has gotten increasingly more difficult to turn and has been not operating correctly, meaning you don't know if you are going to need to overcompensate or under. We took it into the dealership for the fuel pump recall and they couldn't identify the problem. We told them to keep it for a day or two and keep trying. My wife went in and did a test drive with the foreman and he said the power rack steering and the sensors were failing and it would need to be replaced. The service advisor said it was fine to drive as my wife had a conference three hours away, but after having the car back for a week it had gotten noticeable worse with creaks and clicks when turning in particular. I called and spoke to the service manager and he said that he would not drive it to the conference, so it is basically unsafe to drive at this point as we don't know when it will fail or what kind of accident we could get in while driving it. There were no lights or warning to indicate the failure and as I said, the technician and service advisor at first couldn't identify the problem, but we are all in agreement that the steering is failing.

The steering wheel began slipping (without moving the wheels), especially when turning the wheel all the way to one side or another to make a turn starting in November 2022. Kept getting worse, although it was intermittent; it started trying to move the steering wheel the opposite direction when turning or while driving down the road. Dealer was unable to duplicate it a month after it started, although they recommended the replacement of the gear box (electric p/s rack). Four local mechanics checked it and three confirmed the gear box (electric p/s rack) was most likely faulty, due to the driver assist sensor issue that had been occurring in 2017 and 2018 models. The recall information for both years matched the symptoms and it kept getting worse to the point that the steering wheel intermittently slipped up to 90 degrees while holding it to make a turn. Finally had to have the electric p/s rack replaced at my cost, as the dealer wouldn't cover it. Vehicle now steering normally.

All my car systems started to flash warning failure lights including brakes, steering, transmission and all the safety features. My car would start but I couldn't move it out of park and all the warning lights for every system on the car blinked failure. The wire harness that connects to the rearview mirror caused my entire car to shut down and become inoperable. I had to have it towed and it cost me $1552.53 in repairs. I did some research and other people are having the same issue. Critical systems like brakes shouldn-€™t be connected to things like mirrors. This is a critical safety concern. This issue should have a recall. The 2019 models having a bit of wire that hangs down is clearly a design / engineering flaw. I shouldn-€™t have to pay to repair this. I would like to know what Honda-€™s plan is to fix this issue. I have found reports of others having the same issue. My hanging my handicap plate card on the rear view mirror shouldn-€™t short out the entire car. Legally that is where we are suppose to hang it. People with disabilities have lower incomes and shouldn-€™t be penalized for Honda design errors. I would like my money refunded. I think Honda should warn customers of this flaw. I also think Honda needs to fix this on all existing and future models. I was lucky this didn't happen while I was driving on the highway to my destination.

While driving felt sticking of the steering wheel when only turning left on curves or at a red light or stop sign. This occurred sporadically over a three month period but became more pronounced the last month prior to taking the vehicle to the dealership. Dealership discovered the issue was the electric power steering (EPS) had failed. This occurred 3 months after 36 month warranty had expired and 3,000 miles over the mileage limit. No warning light was displayed when issues occurred. Diagnostics was performed by dealer and fault code 32xx thru 34xx confirmed the problem was the EPS control unit. Had the unit replaced due to safety concerns when driving with family. Because of the electric system there was no way to conduct preventative maintenance. Called Honda corporation and a "Good Will Case" was opened (#13019826).

I have purchased Honda CRV 2019 0N 02/18/2019. Initially the car performance was awesome. My first visit at first Texas Honda on 10/04/2019, to fix tyre puncher. When primary technician reminded me about security recalls then I asked to fix all the 3 recalls (1. 2019 CR-V fi-ECU self shutdown software product update, 2.2019 CR-V steering wheel controls & SRS sub-wire satefy recall, 3. 2019 CR-V incorrect owner's guide non-compliance recall) second visit at the same dealer on 10/17/2019 to explain all the issues I was facing after security recalls. The reported issues are high engine noise, sluggish acceleration, steering wheel tight and brake pedal feels very low while applying brake. Honda dealers did not accept the main issue while is high engine noise and sluggish acceleration. They simply deny saying no alerts showing on the dashboard. Raised support cases (given below) with american Honda and I feel I did not get right support because american Honda says we value our customers but they say our authorized dealer should check and confirm on the car issue. But dealers not agree to the issues, simply denying the issues. American Honda support case numbers: 1) 09952327 during Oct 2019. 2) 10214175 during Feb 2020. 3) 202888213 during December 2020 but the issues were not resolved. As a third party review, I approached Firestone, austin for inspection they did a test ride and confirmed with a report on the issues sluggish acceleration and steering hardness. But american Honda denied Firestone inspection report as they believe only authorized dealer, who are not acknowledging the issues. If any person who drive new Honda CR-V and try my car they agree in first attempt that engine noise is high and the car speed pick-up is very poor. I need help from NHTSA asap bcoz my new CR-V which is still in warranty but no-body accepts the car engine issue to fix it.
