Noticed it starting to fade more and more. Car is in great shape otherwise. Only the roof is showing this. Car is taken care of.

Known issue with Honda but they refuse to correct the situation. Honda quality not even close to be acceptable. I will never buy another Honda. Toyota a much better vehicle. KIA is a better vehicle and Hyundai is about the same. Boycott Honda. Buy better vehicles.

i really thought it was my fault. Perhaps not washing enough and putting enough wax on the roof. After finding this site, I see pictures of the exact same problems I am having. Currently, the area is just the roof. Multiple "bald spots" are forming with the worse ones eating past the paint into the metal. It's not even 10 years and yes, I agree, it looks disgusting. I am very disappointed and will not buy a Honda again.
I was going to get a quote tomorrow and ask if my local repair shop can fix it. Now I won't even bother. Even if i do spend money to fix it, the rest of the paint in the rest of the car will eventually look like my roof now. I am very sad. Now I know the rest of my car will look like the roof in a few years.

I was never notified of a recall on the paint, by mail, phone or e-mail. I have also taken my vehicle in to be serviced there, and was not notified then either. I found out about the recall from other Honda Civic owners who had the same issues. When I called the dealership where I purchased the car from, I was told there was an extended warranty on the paint, but at this time my car is no longer covered.

Not sure what Honda is doing. Have a friend with pretty much the same vehicle who took it to Honda a few months ago. They repainted for a $50 "contribution." Honda told me "no dice." Won't buy another one. Too many other cars don't have the issue. It looks like this year model 2006 was especially bad.

Known Honda Civic problem. Car has Galaxy Gray Metallic Paint (NH701M) which was covered under Honda warranty extension. But car is out of that warranty extension.
The roof has several stripes where paint clear coat is peeling off and turning "cloudy".
Plan to repair myself with Duplicolor touchup paint BHA0989. Will see how it goes.

I have owned ONLY Honda Civics since 1983 and always drove them until well over 10yrs old and never had clear coat issues AT ALL. My 2006 dark blue civic started showing loss of clear coat at 8yrs old. All my Civics since 1990 have parked in the same driveway and were subject to the same degree of sun, so what has gone wrong? It looks awful!

Clear coat and paint problems with my 2006 Honda Civic

Honda offered to paint just the roof for $2000.00. By the research I did, I knew the car would need painting in other areas in a few years. As I suspected it has spread. I would have wasted $2000.00 grand for nothing. Honda obviously feels losing customers for life is more important than fixing their mistake. I sure wish a class action suit against them in the state of Indiana would occur. I will avoid buying Honda vehicles from now on and will research extensively next time I purchase a vehicle.

The car was waxed twice a year, spring and fall, with a good quality clear coat safe wax. Now it looks terrible as paint is cracking and peeling on the hood, passenger side front fender, and roof. I take pride in the appearance of my vehicle and Honda's refusal to remedy the problem is very disappointing.

I purchased this pre-owned vehicle in 2014 from a dealership. Less than a year later, giant patches of paint began peeling off my car. This car has been well-maintained, yet the paint continues to peel.

This is a problem that Honda has had for years without making any changes. But we still pay premium price for the car!

Well maintained low mileage auto. Noticed peeling paint on roof in January 2016. Truck began peeling in May 2016. Took it to dealer (Chriswell Honda, Gaithersburg, MD) were is was purchased and serviced. Third Honda bought from this dealer. Dealer took pictures, sent them to Honda Headquarters, phoned Headquarters and was told too old to be covered. Dealer suggested taking vehicle to Honda paint shop for repainting estimate, at my expense. I'm pissed!!!! I've taken excellent care of this vehicle, looks almost new inside and out. Since this issue seems to be prevalent, and there is already a class action suit, plus I'm a good customer, senior citizen, retired teacher, and widow, don't understand why they won't take care of this.

There was a known paint problem with this car. This was covered under a recall until 2014. I went to my Honda dealer to have the issue resolved in 2014. They measured all around the car, and only painted the roof and top of the trunk.
Within a year, even though they measured around the car, this problem quickly surfaced on pretty much every area they chose not to repaint. Now the paint on my hood and and other top surfaces of the car is deteriorating. I talked to the Honda dealer about this, but they will not repaint anything because the recall expired in 2014.

I keep my cars for a long time and have never had a problem with the paint. The paint is wearing off on the roof and the trunk and looks awful. I contacted Honda and they said they would cover 15% of a $1350 bill which is ridiculous because this is a problem caused by their poor paint. This is a known problem and they should agree to fix it for free.

I like my Honda Civic and I love it and I want to see it fixed but I don't know how. I need some help, any advice please...!!

Recently when looking at my car I happened to notice a discoloration in the paint on the roof of my car in front of the sun roof opening. Just today I went in for an oil change and the tech that did the service noticed it immediately and told me that there was a Honda recall for paint jobs on 2006 and other year Civics. Joining this site is step one towards to registering a complaint with Honda as I was never advised that there had been a recall for this problem.

I bought a nice dark blue honda back in 2006. A car I could keep for years. I had no problems with this car, until the paint started peeling in 2012. I went to the honda dealer I bought it from. They said that it was not covered on the warranty. I had put an extra protection for rust on it. I cleaned it every week. I took good care of it. Ex. never washed it in the sun , used only car shampoo. But still the problem consisted.I made a complaint at Honda Canada. They said they could do nothing!! It's a Shame to drive around with this car !!! But I want to let everyone to see the problem !!! Take your responsablity Honda Canada !! There should be a recall on all the dark blue honda's, Thank-you Stephen Ritch
