The clear coat is peeling off the front bumper pretty good now. Bought used so not sure if it is the factory clear peeling or someone elses - likely the factory. Will leave it for now...

Of course I think this huge issue with paint and clear coat should have been addressed, but one quick review of complaints online and the Official Honda website will tell you nothing has been done. The best thing any of us can do at this point is to vote with our wallets and never buy a Honda again. If they won't make this issue right they won't make the next one right either!
Update from Jun 14, 2013: I just spoke with Chris at American Honda who was very helpful. As it turns out the 2006-2010 Honda Civic had a body panel/clear coat recall which is good for 7 years from date of purchase with no milage limitations. He did say the hood was the specific location indicated in the recall. Chris was good enough to find my original date of purchase so I could validate that the recall still applies to my vehicle. He said I should take it to a Honda dealership and have the car evaluated to see if the recall applies in this case. Stay posted. Will update.

My car is a 2006 model. It looks like the clear coat is coming off the paint on the roof and door of my car. It started as 1 small spot on the roof, but it's rapidly spread the past six months. My car runs beautifully for 100,000 miles, but it's exterior is really looking rough. Unfortunately, looks are a big part of cars for people. If this is an ongoing problem for Hondas, I honestly don't know if I'd buy another one. If Honda will step up and fix my paint issue, my next car will without a doubt be another Honda. The paint is just driving me crazy and it's getting embarrassing.
Update from Apr 18, 2013 I had mistakenly put my current milage of over 100,000 miles for when this paint issue occurred. It was actually around 60,000 miles when I started to notice the issue.
Update from Sep 15, 2013: Honda refused to pay for the paint issue. I had to have it repainted myself for over $800.

I bought my 2006 Honda Civic in the end of September 2006. Great car, good on gas...loved it. I took really good care of the car. I washed it several times a month, waxed it at least once a year...sometimes twice. The clear coat is coming off the roof toward the back, and also on the top of the trunk. The car is obviously out of warranty so never bother getting in touch with Honda. Stuck with getting it fixed!

I purchased this car new and have taken exceptional care of it. The interior looks like new as did the exterior until the last six months. Originally, I thought it was bird poop, but, when I hand washed her and the white spots were not removed, I knew I had a problem. I took the car up to my son's and he told me that it appeared that my clear coat was fading but, having it detailed may be able to fix this. It didn't. Now, it is to the point where the spots are getting larger and deeper.
Never had I had a car where the paint has failed. It is embarrassing at best. I planned on keeping this car (especially in this economy) for some time. I did my part - made the payments, serviced as required and now to find there is a paint failure issue with this year/model is infuriating!!! I want it painted and I do not feel I should have to pay for it.

Clear coat peeled off the roof. Is now peeling off hood and truck area. Is humiliating in a 7 year old car. Ready to trade in!

I have a 2006 Blue Honda Civic. I got it from a dealership used. There was a small portion peeling when i bought it and i didnt think it would spread but in the year in a half i have owned it it has and its ugly. inever thought about getting it fixed until i saw where thousands of people were complaining about the same issue. There was even a lawsuit filed agaisnt HONDA about all Accords/Civics from 2003-2007 for the peeling of the paint. I was wondering if there was any way i could just get Honda to repaint my hood its not terrible but if i could get it fixed that would be amazing and would save me 200-400 bucks.

The paint on the top of the car (mostly) as well as the hood & trunk is flaking and chipping away. It looks terrible, and it appears that this is a common problem with many Civic owners from '05-'08ish.

I've just begun looking into this. I will let you know how I feel after I check in with Honda.

I have trying to contact Honda several times over many years. When I first contacted the dealer Jacksonville,FL, where purchased, I met with the service manager who took numerous photos, but never got back to me. I later received a call from Honda after completing a survey about my visit to the dealership. I gave the worst review that I could since I was "blown off". I then received a call form a man at Honda, Mr Reggie, who claimed he was the highest- up person in the Customer Service chain of command. He patiently listened to my complaints and asked me to supply info to him, names, dates and photos. Mr. Reggie finally told me that my car was now out of warranty and Honda did not feel they had any responsibility regarding the paint issues with my Civic. I tried again to explain that I began having problems well within the warranty period and that, yes, Honda should be responsible! After me pushing the matter, he decided to allow me to take my car to another dealership- closer to my home. I was to meet with the field rep there who would examine my auto, however it was made clear to me that this was only to appease me! A decision was already made. In August of 2010, I met with the field rep, George Oppel at Nalley Honda in Brunswick,GA. He told me that there is no warranty on my car and Honda refuses to do anything to assist me. He stated that the damage is environmental as there is also gasket damage.

Clear coat coming off, appearance terrible, lowers trade in value by $1000, very disappointed that Honda service says it is not covered, Long time Honda customer, have 2012 accord, concerned it will have same problem., considering cutting losses and trading both for another make

I purchased a used Honda Civic 2006 coupe LX for my daughter on August of 2011 and by March of this year the paint was already started to chip and peel and lots of white small patches were forming all over the body. Her car color is like a blue/purple (very pretty color). I asked my daughter to take it in to the dealership since we had just purchased the car from the dealership but she fail to do so. Now, its an eyesore, the paint job is horrible and its all over the body of the car. It looks terrible to drive. The car needs to be stripped from the paint and redone all of it. I started to research the internet to see if the dealership sold me a car with a bad paint job but now I see it was an ongoing problem. My kids always had Hondas and she wanted another Honda but I was not aware of the problem as my husband and I have Toyotas and we never had any issues with the paint jobs and we purchased our cars new and not both cars are over 15 years old. I will be contacting Honda tomorrow and taking the car back to the dealership tomorrow to see what their story will be. How do I sign up for the class action law suit against Honda for the bad paint job so I can get it fix?? please anyone help.
Update from Jan 13, 2013: I contacted Honda two weeks ago and they finally call back with an offer. They acnowledged paint was defective but they are asking us to pay $700.00 and they will repaint the car. They said the paint job is worth about 4,000. They gave us 30 days to make final decision and after this time frame offer is gone for ever. Is this legal? Why should I pay for a defective paint that came from the factory? Can anyone help?? Can they be trusted with a new paint job?? is it going to chip again???

I bought this 2006 honda civic and loved it at first, it is hard to get into the back seat, very uncomfortable to ride in back, very noisy. Last spring I noticed the paint starting to come off on the top of it, it is a lot more now after the year. Now I noticed the water was leaking from under the hood, I took it to the garage & found out there is a recall on the engine, i made the appointment and had it repaired yesterday...i picked it up and it was making a terrible noise, it sounded like the belts were loose, I Also looked at the paperwork and they stated they had test drove the car "extensively" but the mileage was 30 less than it is currently after i drove it to work about 40 miles, we took a picture of the odometer to verify this. I called & the Honda dealer said bring it back. We looked at the papers & they said they had replaced the head gaskets & some other bolts. When I took it in they said the water pump was defective so they replaced that. We called & spoke to the man that worked on the car, we were concerned that it was dirty & didn't appear to have been worked on, he said it was taken to another place to work on engine block and he wasn't responsible for them not cleaning it off. Now we are concerned that the Honda dealer did not do the repairs as stated, we are taking to a garage tomorrow to see if they were really done. They told us they had performed $6,300 of work on this car. Now I am checking for more recalls to see if there are other issues with this car.

MY CAR IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM.I KNOW CARS WHO ARE 10 YRS OLD OR MORE AND DON'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY CAR WHICH ONLY HAS 68,000 MILES. I'M ALWAYS KEEPING UP WITH MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR. I USED THE BEST PRODUCT FROM THE OIL, TIRES, CAR WASH ETC... THE CRACKING AND FADING IS SPREADING ON MY ROOF AND TRUNK. IT'S EMBARRASSING AND LOOKS AWFUL. I PAID $21,000 FOR MY CAR AND SHOULD HAVE A FULL BODY PAINT JOB!!!!!!! AT NO CHARGE!!!!!!!! I LOVED MY CAR AND DON'T LOVE IT ANYMORE. TRUST ME I'M NOT A COMPLAINER AT ALL. BUT THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

The clear coat is peeling all on the top of the car and on the trunk. I wanted to sell the car but it is not worth as much as it should with this defect. It started when the car was 40 months and has progressed over the year.

My wife an I own a 2006 Civic coupe and noticed that this past summer the paint started to fade on the roof, hood, and trunk areas. This progressively worsened to the point where there are very large pieces of the clear coat peeling off. After researching online, this appears to be a widespread Honda issue that is not being resolved by Honda rather being put back on the consumer to repair. I recently was advised by Honda to contact their preferred body/paint shop to get an estimate to repair. I was quoted right around $2500. I definitely don't want to come out of pocket for this, but the problem I becoming very unsightly as well as posing the potential for future damage. The vast majority of posts I have seen on the issue recommend joining a class action lawsuit. Just wish that this was not such a big hassle. I loved Honda and up until now the car has been good. But this puts a bad taste in my mouth to the point where I will probably not buy another Honda.

This is my first and last Honda; they sold me a car with a bad paint job and want me to leave it for one week with no loaner car, not even a reduced rental car just to repaint the hood. What about the 6 big white spots on the roof and trunk where the gloss paint is pealing wider every day from UV rays. Honda said they will only paint the hood with the spider web cracks.
Well they painted the 2006-2007 in a hurry, took my money and now their customer service don't even recognize me as a valued customer. Well guess what i will have to drive their car around showing everyone how shotty their services is.
If you Google 2006 Honda paint recall you'll see how many unhappy customers they are accumulating daily with the same problem on the same spots.
Honda of America you stink, your service stinks, shame on you at least to keep your good you should repair Your fault, shame on you.

The clear coat is almost all peeled off my entire car in a matter of months. Now the paint underneath is fading in color too. I don't even have my car half way paid off. This is Honda's fault. They need to take responsibility and recall the paint. I know people with Honda Civics that have this problem with their paint too. It looks bad for Honda. Do they really want potential customers seeing their vehicles driving around looking like crap? I would NOT have gotten this car, if I knew it was going to look this bad. It looks AWFUL! I wanted a good car that would last a long time. I loved the car but now the paint looks disgusting. Many really old cars look better thank this. Seriously Honda? You save a little money doing a crappy paint job.. but that's losing you MANY customers. I will not buy another Honda unless you fix this. And I will not recommend a Honda to anybody. Recall the clear coat peeling!

I paid Honda for the coverage on the clear coat. the warranty expired 1 prior to me contacting the dealership who did asoulutely nothing. Spreen Honda said it was not their problem not their warranty. I contacted Honda Corporation and they felt it was for the element and basically was not their problem either. If you drive around you will see that most 2006 Civic have the same sh*tty paint job/clear coat. Especially, the Matallic Grey which is the cooper color. It really sucks now that the car is six years old it is all peeling off. You would have thought Honda would honor this since it is all 2006 Civic models!
