My Civic has the same problem that many, many others with the same cars has. The clear coat has come off and the paint has peeled off down to the metal on parts of the roof and has begun on the trunk as well. No luck in getting the dealer to do anything about it.

Bought my honda civic 2006 (blue) new. Paint is peeling off the roof and hood of car.

A lot of bs from dealership...looking for a class action suit to join. Also, the tires are

cupping because of faulty struts.

I bought this car brand new in 2006. This car started showing signs last year of the clear coat starting fade, and now one year later it looks awful. This was my first Honda purchase, and it will be my last. I should of listened to gramps and bought American.

I own the Atomic Blue color 2006 Honda Civic. The paint is coming off due to a defected clear coat that Honda has used on all of these cars. I called Honda about the problem and they told me that it was duw to me not taking care of my car and that I live in Florida. Yes I do live in Florida, but I wax (or should say waxed because if I do it now I'm waxing off the clear coat) every month for years. Upon calling American Honda they stated that there are problems but that Honda is not doing anything about it. So just like everything else with this car it's my problem and my fault. Honda used to be great quailty cars now not so great.

Paint peeling and clear coat coming off in many spots on the hood, roof, trunk, spoiler, and upper fenders. Dealer sent me for estimate to repair. Estimate was $2501. Honda of America offered only 25% of the cost in, what they called, "a good will gesture."

I have seen hundreds...if not thousands of identical complaints from other Honda owners. Obviously this is a problem inherent in some Honda cars and nothing to do with environmental factors, as Honda of America has suggested. This car, for most of its existence, has been parked in a garage and, in fact, other than this paint issue has been kept in excellent condition.

My family, for the last 30 or so years, has owned only Honda and Acura automobiles and would like to continue to do so. However, if Honda chooses not acknowledge this as a factory problem and pay the entire bill for the repairs, my family will be forced to terminate any relationship with Honda products.

I bought this Honda because I wanted to avoid problems. It's my baby. It has been nothing but trouble so far. This paint peeling thing is the last straw!!!! My old 1999 Dodge Neon didn't start peeling until it was 11 years old!! And I didn't even park it in the garage like the Honda is! Honda and quality are definitely no longer synonymous words.

I've been a Honda owner for 26 years... I am really disturbed with the paint problems I'm having with my 2006 Civic... I.have always taken excellent care of the car and it is starting to look real bad!...so far, (3 months) I am getting nothing but a run-around from both the dealer and Honda..,.there are numerous complaints on this problem and some that have been addressed by other dealerships....Has anyone had any luck going to a different dealer? The problem is getting worse as the clear coat is deteriorating.....Thanks for any advice..

My car is my baby. This is my first car from a dealer. I noticed the problem with the paint peeling. I thought at first maybe someone threw acid on my car. After the shock wore off I called my warranty company about my paint and they said to send pictures so I did that they then told me that my warranty didn't cover oxidation. Then I took the car into the dealer and showed them. They then told me that is was because of where I live that there is a Kraft factory close to my neighborhood and all the chemicals that the factory puts into the air must have done the damage. I was in such disbelief that this was the excuse they gave me. My neighbor just bought a new camry a few years ago and well he leaves his car outside every day and well no peeling paint on his car. I just don't think that it is right that I have to one look at my car which I paid $25 grand for to have less than 6 years later to have the paint peeling off and two be told that I have to foot the bill to have my car repainted because Honda was to cheap to use good clear coat.

People need to constantly complain to honda. This is an epidemic. I love my honda but I hate the paint and BS I get from the dealers and honda customer service. I have owned 8 honda's in my immediate family. I can tell you that over this $2000 issue, I will never buy another honda. I will teach my kids that Honda is bad car. I will tell anyone who will listen that Honda is screwing their customers.

When buying a 'sporty' model of an automobile, looks tend to be a bit more important to the consumer than the norm. I am so dissatisfied with the paint on my custom ordered civic si. The paint quality overall is quite poor and on the rear window channel the paint has literally just fallen away in large hunks.

The paint spider-webbing on the roof is just the latest in a litany of issues with this car!! I have the metallic galaxy grey and it looks like crap! I take care of my car and this is an eyesore and make the car look old and weathered. I just noticed today, what started out as 2 cereal bowl sized white/cloudy looking spider webs are now a long row from front to back on the passenger side and full width side to side just along the back windshield and is now also spreading down the 2 sides of the rear glass! Disgraceful! What a crappie-ly made car this has been!

I am just disappointed in Honda right now I guess you could say. I really was so excited to buy this car for myself and spend a good amount of money and really get what I deserved. Needless to say I am still making large payments on my vehicle and don't really feel like it is even worth it anymore. I drive around with these large paint marks everyone on the upper part of the car just stripping away. As time progresses it only gets worse. It is almost like I am embarrassed to drive my "nice" car now. I wish that I would have known that this was going to happen and I would have spent my money elsewhere. But now I am stuck and can't afford a solution to my problem. I really am not happy whatsoever.

I called the Honda factory customer service line twice before they told me to take the car to a local dealer for an evaluation. The dealership prepared a preliminary estimate just under $2K and said Honda would call in a day or two. Five days later, I called Honda factory again, was given a complaint number, and told a case manager would have to be assigned. On the good side, I was contacted and told to meet the factory rep at the dealership this week, but was also told I will have to share the expense if, indeed, Honda accepts any blame for this.

My car looks new, except for the awful spots above the rear window and the windshield. I hand wash it every week using shampoo and a soft sponge. If this is not covered by Honda, shame on them. Problem is that you don't see the clear coat coming off during the first three years, but they have had over 8 years' experience with this problem and should have, by now, found another coating that really works.

Update from Oct 24, 2011: The factory rep examined my car and determined that it had not been properly cared for. Honda would not pay for the repair nor would they share the cost. Apparently the 2006 Civic cannot be parked outside in the sunshine and rain without causing the clear coat to peel. The dealership was clearly in agreement with me, particularly the manager of the body shop, but they had no say in the decision. I requested a new estimate and borrowed the money to have the roof and other affected areas repainted. They gave me a lifetime paint warranty on their work. It cost me $1300, just a little less than my monthly Social Security check. Honda will never, ever sell a vehicle to any member of my family or to anyone who hears my story and checks your web site.

Update from Dec 22, 2013: Six weeks ago (November 12, 2013) I received a letter from Honda with notice of extended warranty on the defective paint, together with an application for reimbursement. I completed the paperwork, sent them the invoice and cancelled check, and now await their response. I expect a letter telling me why my car isn't covered, but hope instead to receive a check. We'll see.

Update from Dec 23, 2013: The cost to repair my car two years ago was $1,469.99. Got a check today from Honda for $749.23, with no explanation as to the formula used. My car mileage was 32,108 on the day it was painted, so perhaps they used the fact that it was a 2006 model. Who knows? I expected nothing, so I guess I'm still ahead.
