Finish on roof started peeling over the winter of 2020... At first I thought it was frost because that is what it looks like...it was not frost!

Since then almost every Honda I see like mine is in the same condition and almost all the roof. I have now noticed it starting on the hood of the trunk with a darker strip across the middle too perfect to be random.

I love this car and I am extremely angry to find out it is a design flaw from Honda and I WANT IT FIXED.

I bought this car new in 2010, and over the past few years the clearcoat is wearing away in spot. I'm not sure what Honda will do about it. The car is 10 years but still the clearcoat shouldn't be wearing away like this, my friends Mitsubishi has the same problem.

Here is my beef: I own 2010 Honda Civic and within the last year or longer, the paint on the roof and hood, trunk area keeps disappearing. I am losing my paint. I notice a lot of Honda Civics with the same problem. I am a vehicle owner who takes care of my vehicle including the appearance of it. I am not happy about this. Honda should do the right thing and repair this. If they took short cuts when making these vehicles, shame on them!

Honda repainted peeling paint on this car one panel at a time, first the hood in 2013 or 2014, then the right and left tops of the front fenders, then the roof, then the trunk, then the right rear quarter panel, by 2017 the only panel they had not repainted, the left rear quarter panel began to peel off. When I took it to Honda they said it was beyond warranty and offered to pay half. This car should have been repainted in its entirety when it was four years old, instead they let it rot away in my possesion. there have been other issues with this car, including replacing motor mounts.

This was my first Honda car. I've owned many Honda products including generators and motorcycles, which all were of high quality. This car is junk. I'll never buy another, and I'll think twice before buying any other products, given this slipshod engineering and support!

I have compiled 20 pages on powerpoint showing that honda has a 20 year known issue with paint problems. Paint and/or clearcoat failure that is exactly the same on car after car. Some bulletins that were never sent to their customers. Many people denied. This company is guilty of fraud. That is the term when a company continues to say that they are delivering good paint and knowingly does not. I would like to see enough pressure in a class action lawsuit to make them fix all cars that the paint peels or burns off in this pattern.

My car is a 2010 Honda Civic where the paint is peeling on the trunk, the edges of the trunk, the rear window and by the side mirrors and some type of peeling or fading on the window driver and passenger sides. My sister has a 1996 Toyota Camry that has a better paint job than my car. Also, I've had to replace both the driver and passenger sun visors twice and they are broken again. I appreciate any help with this matter. Thank you.

Honda had a warranty for paint issues and also extended it by 6 months. That right there tells me they are responsible for what is happening to the paint of certain Honda vehicles.

My car started the deterioration of the paint outside their warranty. Its definitely not normal wear/tear on the paint, its like its eating away at it. I feel real strongly that Honda is responsible for this issue and should take the responsibility to repair the damage. They say its normal wear/tear on the paint and not a manufacturer defect. However, by all the issues and as well as issuing a warranty, you know that's a lie.

They did acknowledge some responsibility in my case. But not enough.

I never thought I would have one of those ugly Honda Civics with peeling clear coat and white spots. My car had a beautiful appearance until about a year and a half ago. I feel betrayed by Honda. They sell a nice looking car, that after a certain amount of years is embarrassing to be seen in. There is nothing you can do to prevent it either. It appears to be a defect in the paint.

Update from Mar 26, 2018: Contacted the dealer 3 times. They told me that the extended warranty doesn't apply to my car based on the VIN.

Paint started oxidizing, clear coat started flaking off here and there over the years. Late last year it got really bad, now the car looks awful. I went to the dealership, they said Honda did have a "warranty extension" for my vehicle but that it expired 7 months ago. They suggested I call Honda and explain the situation, I did, they said sorry, we can't help. I was never notified of this "extension", also, this paint issue is obviously a known problem, how can they just defer to the expiration in good conscious? The obvious answer is they don't care and that not notifying vehicle owners is a cost savings to them. Below is a copy of my communication with Honda Customer Service.

Honda must be selling an awful lot of cars to just throw away a customer like this. I will never buy another one. Multiple panels have been repainted on this car due to faulty paint. Honda would only repaint each panel one at a time, as the panel corroded. Now we have reached the last panel which is peeling, and Honda says they will only cover half of the cost. This is my first Honda, and if I don't receive satisfaction, my last.

The picture I've attached shows the beginning of the paint problem on my 2010 Civic which has now spread across the entire roof of the car.

I spoke to my dealer and was informed that I would have to wait until a regional manager comes in on a once a month visit at which time he/she would inspect my vehicle. I also spoke to Honda Customer Service about the extended paint warranty which was issued for precisely this problem but was informed that my vehicle's vin number was not on the list so it was not covered. What???? Why not? The paint/top coat or whatever is oxidizing and peeling, the car looks like crap through no fault of mine and Honda will not accept responsibility for this? I am beyond furious and at this point have no idea how to proceed with this.

I first noticed this problem over a year ago, but figured my warranty was over and I was stuck with it. Recently, a body shop person told me to bring the car to Honda and when I happened to Google the problem discovered that this is a well known issue with Honda and they issued several bulletins on it. I was never notified of this. I brought the car to the dealer who told me I was 4 months past the extended warranty on the issue. I called Honda and after getting an estimate agreed to pay for the repair minus $500 from me. As this problem is 100% their responsibility, I do not feel this is fair. A. They failed to paint the car properly, and B. They failed to notify their customer in a timely fashion. I find this unacceptable for a 30 year Honda customer.
