My Honda paint started peeling off everywhere due to the delamination issue with Honda's paint. The insurance won't cover it because it is a manufacturing issue. The cost to fix it is 3000.00.

I don't use this car to pick up my son from school because it is really ugly, and it is embarrassing. I realized the paint starting to peel off a few years ago, and I never thought it was the paint problem from the manufacture. Yesterday when I ask for a quote to fix the paint, one of the auto body mechanics told me that HONDA should be in charge, and he had seen many HONDA cars with blue color share the same problem. Other body shop give a quote for $1500 to fix the paint on the hood and front roof. Do I get any suggestion from you fellows?

Odyssey EX-L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

We purchased our brand new 06 Honda Odyssey EX-L and noticed just a few months after purchase the hood paint was peeling off. Honda finally agreed to repaint the hood where it was peeling but was very reluctant. Well since purchase to now the paint is starting to fall off everywhere. And note that the van has been garaged kept it's entire life.

This really sucks and I'm very dissatisfied with this paint defect which appears to be a common issue with newer models. Whwt sucks is I'm sure Honda will tell me to take a hike if I were to ask them to fix their defect at this point being 11 yrs since purchase. But through the years ive just had paint shop fix the rear and part of the roof but the peeling and chipping shows up in new places all the time.

This is unacceptable from manufacturer. This is CLEARLY a manufacturer defect regardless of mileage or age of vehicle. Due to expired recall, this issue occurs only on a specific year models, with blue paint on horizontal surfaces. Obviously this is not an issue with paint itself, but with methods used to paint (adhesion issue between paint and primer). My car is nearly worthless as a trade-in if the paint is camouflaged blue/gray. This absolutely has to be fixed by Honda.

I have seen at 3-4 Odysseys in my neighborhood with the same problem. They are the same model year and color. I had asked the dealer about the recall but it was never mentioned. They applied other recalls when I went for service. I also have pictures of at least one more similar minivan with the same problem. At this point I am not buying a Honda anymore. I am in the market for a car but will not consider Honda.

My Honda Odyssey was recalled years ago for peeling paint on the hood. They repainted the hood only. Last month I noticed sheets of paint peeling off the roof of my car. I contacted Honda and they said they wouldn't do anything for me because my car was a 2006, even though the paint was clearly defective. I brought to Honda Service and they would only pay 25% to repaint the roof. I ended up paying over $300 to have the roof painted and later I noticed spots that peeled or were covered in something other than the blue paint. I called Honda and they said that must be new and they wouldn't do anything. The manager was supposed to call me but never did.

Honda clearly had defective paint on the 2006 Odyssey and should have repainted all cars. When you buy a new car you should expect the paint to stay on the car for the life of the car! They don't stand by their products and customer service is a disgrace. I will never buy another Honda.

Don't remember exactly when first noticed peeling but put an approximate date where requested. As you see from pic it is between windshield and sun roof. I was not sure what to do about it. Did not think dealer would help. A friend suggested I go on line to Honda and see what you would say. I have had older Honda's with the same problem. So I need help getting it painted.

I have seen many other Odysseys - midnight blue pearl same year, with exact same paint coming off in the exact same areas.Specially, on the hood, it looks very gross. the picture does not show clearly, but last Sunday, we had a heavy snow in Charlotte, the paint on the hood peeled off more.I really want get a solution for now. Thanks.

no clear coat and white paint is powdery down to metal

Always took van to dealer for oil changes &/or problems. I always mentioned that the paint looked bad and wouldn't shine like it used to. They said nothing they could do, just normal wear. Then the spot on the hood started showing metal. Took my van to have it detailed and he said while trying to wax the paint kept coming off on the rag. He called the local car dealership body guy to come over to look at it and was told to stop rubbing or the rest would come off, that there was no clear coat left on the van. Took it to the local shop that paints and was told it would cost around $6,000 to paint the entire van. I'm not happy at all with the service from Honda. This should have been fixed when I first told them and I shouldn't have been told it's just normal wear. They keep telling you stuff until everything is out of warranty. The body shop to,d me that several Hondas had the same problem and that Honda new about it.

1- There's a big circular peeled off paint on the roof that was just noticed summer of 2014 when I washed my vehicle. At first I did not think it's a problem until it got bigger now about 15" diameter. So I decided to google for complaints and here I am... What I just find out from comments on the internet is that Honda extended the warranty to 7 years... I NEVER ever received a notice about this extended warranty from the dealer nor from Honda. There are also spots of paint that's starting to peel off on the hood. These may be a couple thousands to fix and I'm not just going to spend it if it's a manufacturers fault!!!

paint flaking/peeling paint flaking/peeling

This problem started 2 years ago as just a little discoloration. Slowly, the paint started to chip and now my nice, reliable Honda Odyssey looks like a junker. It's very frustrating. The more I talk to others who own them or have owned them....or to actual dealers who sell and service them, the more I realize that this is a known issue that Honda has only decided to fix on a few vehicles. It's absolutely ridiculous. If this isn't fixed for me, it'll be the LAST Honda I ever purchase...and I've got at least 6-7 more cars in me before it's all over.

We have a 2006 Honda Odyssey that Honda must be proud of. There are SEVEN manufacturer's campaigns on that van and ALL SEVEN defects showed up!!! Throw in a new radiator and alternator this past summer and that's our Odyssey. Honda paid for some of the defect repairs and some they didn't. The Alin v. American Honda class action lawsuit was a joke, as it would only cover the A/C condenser through the warranty period. I had a 2003 Accord with many of the same defects as the Odyssey. Honda paid for none of the repairs for the Accord. I will never buy another Honda product (car, mower, etc)

We are starting to have 3 patches of paint blistering, then peeling off on the roof between the windshield and sunroof. We are the original owners and the car was garaged daily and well cared for. From seeing others on the road, I'm sure this will continue to spread. Our other cars are Mazda's of about the same age and have no similar paint issues. I've lost confidence in Honda's vaunted quality.

I contacted Honda when I noticed the paint chipping off this past summer as I remembered that there had been a recall. I was notified that my car was beyond the recall period of 7 years as it is a 2006 Honda Oddysey. The paint chipping got worse and I contacted a local body shop (2 body shops) who informed me that this should not be happening with the original paint. The paint must have been water based to be stripping off from the primer like this. They firmly advised that I contact Honda to remedy the situation. I went back to the dealer and photos were taken and I was again told I was beyond the recall time frame.

paint flaking/peeling paint flaking/peeling

Our Honda Odyssey Touring was purchased used in 2010 as a Honda "Certified" vehicle from a Honda Dealership. Within a year the paint started to come off of the roof. It started as a small spot, but quickly spread in size and also to other areas of the roof and hood. It was quickly out of control and a vehicle that we were excited about and felt good about purchasing was now pretty much an embarrassment (this isn't the only issue we have....the roof also started to leak within months purchase and after multiple tries Honda has yet to fix it...I'll save the for another complaint). Honda did offer to pay half of what it would cost to get the car repainted, although they did not admit that the paint was an issue from their end...we feel that they should pay for the repair in it's entirety. We now notice other white Odysseys with paint issues on the road quite frequently...we feel certain that this issue is not unique to our van.
