On March, 19 2019 around 5:00am I was on my way to work like normal. As I was getting on the 60 freeway at about 45 miles per hour my car shut off while driving. I had no power steering but I coasted to a stop in the right lane of freeway turned my car back on and drove about 500 feet and the same thing happen but this time it would not turn back on.

I was making a left turn on to a street going uphill and my 2017 Hyundai sante fe sport AWD ultimate hesitated for approximately 10 seconds. When I pressed the gas I could not get speed. My traction lights blinked on and off. I had to floor the gas to gain speed. This is extremely dangerous. I could have been T- boned or hit from behind if there was traffic on the street.

While I am driving and my car is changing gears, it does fine until its in fourth gear. The RPM will go to about 2,800 until it changes to fifth gear. Onve its in 5th gear the RPM will go into a "neutral" state and rev from 4,700 RPM to 5,700 without any acceleration. This happens when accelerating up a freeway entrance. I have been to the dealership 3X now and all they keep saying is the transmission needs an update. And the adaptive values need to be re- learned. I have now had my transmission fluid filled once and then I paid to get a tranny flush. And adadptive values reset twice. Nothing has changed. I have 38,000 miles and this has been going on for about the last 15,000 miles.

I parked my car parallel to the curb on a city street. I moved the shifter from "drive" to "park". I did not turn off the engine because I was only going to get out for a few seconds to open the door behind me to let some senior citizens to get in the car. I released my seat belt buckle and proceed to open the driver-side car door. As soon as my feet were on the ground and my body was outside of the car, the car started to move in reverse direction. The car was moving fairly quickly because within a split second, I was knocked to the ground by the car door with the left front wheel on top of my left foot. The wheel proceeded to roll over my left ankle, leg, thigh, hip, abdomen, chest, and finally my right upper arm and shoulder joint. The car continued to travel in reverse by jumping the curb onto the side walk and finally stopped by heavy bushes in front of a building. Upon inspection, the shifter had slipped into the "reverse" position. Based on the gradient of the road service with the engine running, the removal of my foot on the brake would have immediately allowed the car to move backward had the shifter was in reverse which would make exiting my whole body out of the car without noticing car movement very unlikely if not impossible, particularly for a 72 year old male who is recovering from an open heart surgery and two brain surgeries. The shifting mechanism and the associated control must be faulty resulting in the "false park" position.

Santa Fe

  • 10,000 miles
When turning left or right from a stop or low speed (<10 mph) on a paved city street, intermittently the vehicle will not respond to my gas pedal. I can have the pedal all the way to the floor and the car will not accelerate. Only after 1.5 to 2.0 seconds will the car react, and when it does, it is violently fast. This causes issues when making left turns because you're going into oncoming traffic with a vehicle that is stalling for almost 2 seconds before the car begins to move forward (violently).

Failure to accelerate from a stop position. Pulled off the highway onto the off ramp. Came to a stop then tried to turn left. Vehicle barely moved and had to accelerate to over 2500 RPM and several seconds later to get the vehicle barely moving. Pulled off the road, put the vehicle into manual shift mode to find the transmission is locked into 4th gear and cannot be downshifted to 1st. Vehicle continued to be locked into 4th gear after each stop. Turning off the vehicle and restarting temporarily corrects the problem. Potential major safety issue. Vehicle now with dealer to resolve

2017 Hyundai sante fe SE, when first purchased I felt hesitation, according to dealer they was a update for the computer, I took it in for update which actually did not make a difference. At times when getting in vehicle to drive off and put in gear it would not move. Took to dealer for service tech drove car home and stated that there was no issues. After that I stopped using vehicle. I sent Hyundai Consumer Affairs a complaint and they brushed it off. Since I didnt buy the vehicle at the dealer I took for service they could not give me a loner. Suspension has a defect changed tires at 15000 miles due to humming from rear, had vehicle aligned and new tires 6 months later tires are worn Hyundai has suspension issues. Last, so far is engine knocks when starting vehicle. Its a shame that we have to make payments on vehicle that dont serve our needs and Hyundai does not care but to have there payments on time. I contacted my attorney, planning to drop off at dealer and return to Hyundai so the finance company can take it back either I get my issues fixed just like everybody else should or I stop paying and take it back. If you anybody that is interested in buying a Hyundai vehicle like ours send them elsewhere.

Acceleration issues. On at least two separate occasions, acceleration from a stop resulted in the car staying at the same speed. Had to remove my foot from the gas pedal and reapply several times to get it moving. Normally, applying throttle pushes individuals back on their seats. Car was taken to laurel Hyundai and per the techs "unable to replicate customers concern on road test, no codes stored or present in system, no tab's for concern found". looking at getting rid of this vehicle due to this serious safety issue.

Upon moving after complete stop and turning vehicle to right or left, there is hesitation before there is throttle response. It occurs more often if while initially making a turn and any size bump or pothole is encountered. A very dangerous situation as there is no way to make an avoidance maneuver if necessary since there is no immediate throttle response. The same situation occurs when at slow speeds a pothole or bump is encountered during a turn. Again, dangerous, because without a responsive throttle no avoidance maneuver is possible. N.B. I put today's date because the "field is required". it occurs on a daily basis, nonetheless.

The Santa Fe sport was purchased in July of 2017. When taking off from a redlight or while driving at a steady momentum on the road, the acceleration drops significantly and the rpms begin to rev up high, bouncing up and down, but the Santa Fe sport will stall. While on the highway, the issue continues and panic sents in due to the cars behind us can rear end the Santa Fe sport. No matter how far or hard the gas pedal is pressed the Santa Fe sport will stall. All while no "engine light" turns on. Took the Santa Fe sport for service to the dealer over 6 times between 2017 and 2018 and only an ems part was replaced. The problem continues mostly in very bad traffic, again very concerning for safety. The Santa Fe sport needs to be turned off and back on in order for the problem to cease. No matter what drive mode it is in (eco; sport; normal) the issue persists. We purchased a brand new 2017 Santa Fe sport right off the lot which has been paid for and it is unfair that we are still paying what seems like our lives we continue to spend more with gas, tolls, travel and time from work to take the Santa Fe sport in for service and we do not get refunded for this.

9/18/17 while driving on highway at 65 mph the ABS light came on and the vehicle while trying to accelerate moved slow as if to not want to shift. I got to the side of the freeway and turned the vehicle off and when I re started a few minuets later the light went out and vehicle operated without out problem. I made appointment with dealership for 9/26/17. They did some recall items and I mentioned the problem and was told if the light is out it may not show up. The failed to not on service order this issue. On 10/24/17 while driving on freeway and had traveled about 50 miles from home the ABS light came on again and this time it notified me on the radio screen to contact blue link as there was a possible condition with the brake system. I contacted blue link and they made an appointment for 10/27/17 at 8 am at the dealership. After 6 hours waiting on Hyundai tech support to get back with them to run diagnostics. Last 3 months vehicle monthly report on vehicle shows a problem with the ABS system. They claim they are unaware of any issues.10/24/17

I purchased a brand new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe limited ultimate on May 5 of this year, and noticed a very hesitation during the drive home from the dealership. I figured it was the result of the engine breaking in and that I should just be patient. However, it continued...and progressively got worse. Specifically, it's most pronounced when I accelerate from a dead stop, accelerate out of a rolling stop, accelerate out of a left turn, or try to make a quick passing or merging maneuver on the freeway. In all of these conditions, there is a 2 to 3 second delay before the transmission will suddenly downshift and the vehicle will blast off. This is really dangerous, because I've had nearly a dozen instances of being nearly rear ended because the vehicle won't accelerate quickly enough. The best way to describe it is to say that it's like trying to accelerate with a dirty, severely clogged, 10-year-old engine air filter, and the intake can't get enough air into the engine to accelerate as it should. I've been to our local dealership several times about this issue and in every instance we're told that there is nothing they can do until Hyundai releases an update or a recall. But in the meantime, I guess I'm supposed to continue playing russian roulette with my life. I'm at nearly 9,000 miles and the hesitation is still as pronounced as it was in the beginning. I'm trying really hard to be patient and not keep complaining to our local service center...but we've had quite a few close calls, extremely close, and I'm really hoping that Hyundai will please fix this soon! in fact, I just read an article about Hyundai replacing the engines in the '17 Santa Fe's because of a manufacturing issue with the crankshaft pin causing the exact same symptoms I've experienced. So I hope that I can please get my vehicle repaired before I end up in a terrible accident. Thanks!!

The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. While the vehicle was parked with the engine running and the gear in park, the gear automatically shifted into reverse and the vehicle moved backwards. The failure occurred without warning. The contact was standing on the passenger side with the passenger door open. The contact jumped into the vehicle and applied the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to stop the vehicle and pulled over to the side of the parking lot. The contact turned off and restarted the engine, and the vehicle returned to normal. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 23,300.

Had this Santa Fe for a little over a year. I have noticed several instances of not being able to accelerate, or gain speed, especially when turning or starting from a stopped position, it hesitates to start to the point of almost being hit several times. I have taken it to dealer many times, and they keep telling me its the way I am driving it that the engine is like a standard vehicle, but that doesnt seem safe to me if I am trying to start driving and it wont go. When it does finally decide to go, it takes off way too fast and is like, it finally decides to shift into gear. Also while in park, engine revs to 2500rpm for no reason or idols at that RPM. It feels like the engine is pulling the car forward even when it is in park I have been given the run around so many times, I am tired of it. I'm not happy to see others have this issue, but I am also glad that others are experiencing the same problems.

2017 Hyundai sante fe sport AWD - purchased in Oct 2017. Currently have 7525 miles on vehicle. I noticed acceleration hesitation immediately after making in city turns (from both stationary and in motion turns) as well as when getting on highway (in motion). I am retired and do not drive sante fe very often. The problems with acceleration after making stationary and in motion turns and getting on highway has always been present since day of purchase. I have noticed the problem has become more prevalent after taking a 1000 mile road trip this past August. The acceleration/ hesitation after turning is more noticeable and is becoming concerning because I have to press petal to floor to get the sante fe to accelerate properly to get out of way of on coming traffic. Hesitations/acceleration problems occurs after turning and when entering a freeway. Very poor engine performance given the vehicle cost of $35,000. I owned a 2011 Hyundai sonta for 6 years and had the same 2.4L engine and I never experienced any engine hesitation like I am now with the 2017 Hyundai sante fe sport AWD.

Multiple times while attempting to accelerate the rpms will go up and the car does not move. When it finally goes the car will jerk and the rpms fall. There seems to be a loss of power when this happens. Also seems to happen when making left hand turns across traffic, which can become dangerous with oncoming cars. This happens when attempting to accelerate.
