Sonata

  • 112,000 miles
Passengers side front seat airbag sensor went bad. Made airbag light come on. Took car to dealer they said sensor was bad and with light on airbag wouldn't work. So I had it fixed. $1800 and a new new later it's fixed. But how many people out their is going to spend 1800. On a 2007. If that's not a safety concern I don't know what is. Lots of bad airbag sensors out there.

On Dec. 10, 2016, while waiting for a traffic light (stationary)...there was an experience of a very loud explosion...while waiting for the traffic light.. not knowing if I was hit by another vehicle or the unknown, I covered my head...because of the parts from inside my car, was flying forward, and also smelled a slight burning smell inside. I continued to cover my head... parts from inside the car was...--the SRS cover (driver's side, front) --the upper door handle(driver's side, rear). Not seeing any indications of another vehicle hitting me..and also had the right of way, when the light turned green to turn left..I pulled over to further check my vehicle.... my driver's side interior headliner had been damaged (driver's side) all the way to the (driver's side rear) and/middle( headliner). Also passenger rear back headline border cracked and found the dome light cover also blown off...and on the passenger floor...updated 02/14/17

Took the car into the shop for an airbag light. They said that it was a bad oc mat sensor. I was quoted $1000+ for parts and labor. I asked why this wasn't covered under the recall because my car was in the range 06-07, they said my VIN did not indicate an active recall. I called corporate and they also said I was sol. This is something that needs to be fully recalled, far too many of them are failing and Hyundai refuses to do anything about them.

This is now the 4th time I have had to take the car in for an airbag light that indicates a bad seat belt sensor. Frustrated to have to still deal with this issue. Stationary on start up light goes off then comes right back on.

The last week of October 2016, my Sonata''s air bag warning light came on and has stayed illuminated for the last two weeks. Simultaneously, the right passenger seat's seat belt warning light has stayed on even when no one is in the seat. Also, the "passenger seat air bag off" light has come on.

The air bag warning light (remains on constantly) and passenger side seat belt warning lights remains on even with a passenger above the weight limit. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off even when the seat belt is hooked up. There is a recall for faulty sensors, recall notice, 08V161000, for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered? I feel like my Sonata has many of the issues in past recalls but for some reason isn't included in them (outside lighting, ESC light periodically kicking on, brake sensor failing numerous times, continuous issues with rear brakes, etc.) I think Hyundai should expand this airbag recall as I hope we aren't being put in harms way with an unexpected airbag failure when we need it most.

Sonata

  • 58,000 miles
The air bag warning light and passenger side seat belt warning lights come on when I start the car. The air bag warning light will not turn off and the passenger side seat belt light will not turn off unless the seat belt is hooked up. I understand that these may be issues associated with faulty sensors. This is particularly disconcerting because I've reviewed the issues on-line and it's possible the air bag system may not be operating properly. I've seen that other Hyundai owners have tried to deal with these same issues and gotten little or no satisfaction from their Hyundai dealership. There was an extended recall notice, 08V161000, associated with the passenger side air bag for 2006 - 2008 Hyundai Sonatas but my 2007 is not covered" is there a way to find out why that is"

Sonata

  • 100,000 miles
My airbag sensor light has been on for the past few months. I've looked online and saw that this is a common complaint for Hyundai's. also, my ESC light goes on and sometimes stays on. Again another complaint with this car. Both are safety issues that seem to be negligent on the manufactures part. With the number of complaints that have been logged this should be a safety recall issue that Hyundai should be responsible for.

Jul 012016

Sonata

  • 100,000 miles
I have an airbag light that has been on and the dealer ran the code which came back B1448 which is the passenger seat sensor. They recalled substantially all 2006-2008 Sonatas for this well documented problem, but said mine is excluded despite it being exactly in the middle of the problem years. I have an airbag system that wont deploy due to a very well documented problem by Hyundai and they wont fix it.

problem #149

May 012016

Sonata

  • 36,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. While operating the vehicle with the front passenger seat occupied, the front passenger air bag sensor light illuminated, which indicated that the air bag system was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag sensor was faulty. The sensor was replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact also indicated that the seat belts randomly activated while operating the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

problem #148

May 092016

Sonata

  • 188,000 miles
Airbag light on driver's side dash illuminated. Took to mechanic; code read that it was the occupant sensor in the passenger seat (known issue) and covered by Hyundai. Took car to Hyundai dealer to have seat removed, shipped to California, for repair. Dealer states that airbag light will not go off once seat is replaced; it also needs clock spring assembly replaced. This, too, is a known/frequent issue with this age/make/model, however it's not covered by Hyundai. Will cost $400 to replace. This is a safety issue and if it's occurring frequently enough to find numerous forums online with people complaining, it should be a covered/warrantied service performed by Hyundai. Should not have to shell out $400 for repairs. Very upsetting! :(

Takata recall: Airbag light coming on for no real reason and now deale/mechanicr is quoting a huge amount to replace the sensor. When I tried to search online, it looks like hundreds of Hyundai Sonata customers had a same issue. How could government allowed them to sell these cars when they are not recalling their defective parts ?
