So door handle # 2 and 3 broke, the passenger front and driver's rear. No recall still???

This is it - I have to speak to someone asap. After losing 2 door handles now, TODAY, my driver's door handle is attempting to come off and will not open. This makes 3 doors without a working door handle and the vehicle only has 4 doors. I am a very dissatisfied customer and there needs to be a recall so that these door handle problems can be repaired. I only have one door handle back driver side and that is not going to work.

I have had to replace 2 handles twice and a third handle once. Has occurred on days <0*c and days >15*c. Cheap Plastic Handles.

The 4th door handle finally broke! From 2015 - 2020 all 4 outside door handles broke on my 2010 Hyundai Sonata. When I called Hyundai USA about the first one, they agreed to cover the repair. They refused to cover it on the 2nd & 3rd. I have not yet reached out to them regarding the 4th. Hyundai obviously made the 2010 Sonata with poor handles (and not that great overall, multiple parts have broken just outside of warranty). Repair costs have been about $240 per handle.

This is something that needs to be addressed. There is no way to operate a vehicle if you can not even get inside and this has been happening too often with 2010 Hyundai Sonata. I will not purchase another one of these vehicles again. Door #1 of 3 with door handle problems.

Purchased a slightly used, low mileage Hyundai Sonata. One of the rear door handles had previously been replaced with a dark gray handle. Since our purchase in July, the front 2 handles have broken. How has there not been a recall on this model?

I bought my 2010 Hyundai Sonata from the original owner who was an old lady that took great care of it and drove it very little. I'm saying this to illustrate how the car was well-taken care of. 3 months after owning the car, the passenger door handle broke off during a routine attempt to open it. I thought it was just an isolated event of bad luck because I had never heard of anyone experiencing this issue and I had certainly never broken a door handle simply by trying to open the door in the 15+ years of owning cars. But to my surprise, 4 months later, the other front door, THE DRIVER side door handle broke on me today. The car doesn't even have 50k miles. Both the original owner and I don't drive the vehicle that much (the previous owner was elderly and I work from home). I am very disappointed in this poor level of quality and learning that repairing both handles is going to cost me close to 3 car payments. Right now I have to crawl through the backseat to open any of the front doors.

Bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata pre-owned about 6 months ago. Only had 48K miles on it when purchased from an older couple who rarely drove the vehicle. All maintenance had been done by my local mechanic that the original owners and myself have frequented for years. About 2 months ago the drivers side rear door handle fell off. About 2 weeks ago the passenger side rear door handle also fell off which prompted me to research this problem and much to my surprise I found out that this is a common problem with this particular make and model. With all of the vehicles I have owned over the past 38 years I have never come across such a problem as this.
It amazes me that a recall has not been issued on these vehicles since it is apparently a common problem. Obviously Hyundai uses inferior parts on their vehicles and should certainly be held responsible for the replacement of these door handles. I sincerely doubt that Hyundai will take responsibility for these shoddy door handles but they should. I would also be very hesitant to ever purchase another Hyundai again. You have to think if they are using such poor quality parts on their door handles where else are they cutting corners ?

I have now had 3 of the 4 door handles been broken off due to opening them. They weren't even opened with force. One of them fell off after an ice storm so I get that. The other two didn't. One is still on but it won't work. I was told that it would cost about $300 to repair all 3, plus painting would cost extra. So essentially, I have to get inside my car, open the car from the inside or reach around to let someone in. I've absolutely never had this happen with any other car I've owned. Seems like cheap plastic parts.

At 50K miles, the front passenger side door handle fell off. I reached to open the door and the handle came off. Then two weeks later the back drivers side door handle came off. I look stupid driving around in this car with 2 missing door handles. It is such an inconvenience as well as an embarrassment. Why has this issue not been recalled? I've read numerous complaints online about these door handles. Something has to be done about this. I don't have extra money to pay for door handles. Ridiculous!!!!!!

3 door handles so far on this car, just lost my passenger side handle. Lost driver side in 2016 (only one I fixed) and driver side passenger in 2015. Finally decided to call dealer and get cost estimates to fix the two, lovely $675. Just can't justify that cost, the crazy thing is this is a one person car, never been a family car so total number of times I have used the doors other than the driver side is fairly small. Just cheap parts and a company that doesn't want to fix their problems, crazy thing is I'm not young and have owned many, many cheap cars in my life and never have had this happen to any of them. To Hyundai's credit they did give me $250 to fix my drivers side handle and other than this issue have loved the car but talk about leaving a bad taste in customers mouths. Would be hard pressed to ever consider a Hyundai again.

i own a 2010 hyundai sonata at about 80,000 miles the rear passenger door handle broke when i tried to open it.A few weeks later the front door passenger door handle snapped.Hyundai does not cover it under any recall and vehicle is now 8 years old so it is out of warranty.Hyundai on Staten Island NY wants $220 dollars per handle installed that includes parts labor and paint.I went online and ordered 4 after market handles for $40.00 and went to autozone and purchased can of paint and a can of clear coat for another $20.I then went to youtube and watched a repair video.I was able to install the myself in less than 10 minutes an saved around $390 dollars.

So this is the 3rd time a door handle has fallen off of this car. All have been different door handles on the same car and every time a door handle falls off it is caused by normal use. Whenever we call the dealership they insist on charging us 100.00 inspection fee just to look at it and they refuse to give us a price until they do this. So pretty much they want to charge us 100.00 to tell us that they want to over charge us to fix a problem that anyone can diagnose by looking at it in 2 seconds. This car is made of cheap plastic and I will never allow anyone I know to buy another Hyundai. Oh, and the one time we did have it fixed by the dealer, they charged us over 300.00 and the body shops charge closer to 200.00. Hyundai makes cheap cars and they don't even try to provide customer service.

Rear driver side door handle broke off when I tried to open the door. Roughly 76,000 miles on the car at the time. .I assumed it wouldn't be an expensive or difficult fix (stupid me, I know). After seeing all of the complaints about this, I realize it's more of a problem than I thought. I will contact my dealership and Hyundai corporate to see what they'll do for me, but I don't expect much after reading the comments here.

This is the second exterior door handle to break in about a month. I'm running out of door handles. I will be making this a priority to fix, but after seeing costs in the $200 dollar range, I am not happy. Will see what Hyundai says. This is a legitimate safety issue and SHOULD be covered under a recall. Apparently it is quite common and likely to get worse as these vehicles age. WE are only seeing the complaints that are reported here. Probably the tip of the iceberg as most do not record their complaints on these websites.
I will give Hyundai a chance to be fair and reasonable here. However if i get no satisfaction, I will be making a sign to display on each affected door which will draw attention to the problem to potential car buyers. Nothing libelous. Just something like "Handle broke at 77K miles. $200 to fix. Common problem." Just the facts. People will do the math. Every place I park, folks will see this. Thousands eventually. I hope others with this problem do the same.
Update from Jun 6, 2017: UPDATE: Folks, do not add insult to injury by having your Hyundai dealership fix this problem. I just ordered 4 of these OEM handles on Ebay for $38.49 with free shipping. There is a 3-4 minute Youtube video online showing how to install. Folks, it is super easy. Hyundai has incredible nerve charging one-hour labor for this repair. Do NOT give them your hard earned money to replace this shoddy part. They are gouging you. The only problem is that the new handles will be colored black. You will have to paint them. Not sure if the dealer sells cans of spray paint in your color. By the way, I recommend you get the 4-pack of handles. Every one of your handles will most likely break eventually. Shipping from Korea can take 2-4 weeks!

Hello everyone, Yesterday after dinner from a restaurant I had walked to my 2010 Hyundai Sonata and unlocked it and went to open the driver door and the handle just came right off in my hand. Not sure what happened, but the handle was in good condition and nothing had hit it or looked like someone tried to get into my car. It looks like part of the handle broke on the inside. And so now I have been having to unlock the car and open the passenger door reach over start my car.
I called hyundaiusa.com and complained and they said, service call for this was already done and they cannot fix it again. This is extremely frustrated. I don't know how much it would cost to me.

The first time a door handle has ever come off in my hand. This was the drivers side rear door that broke first. I thought perhaps I was just too rough on the doors until I found out this is happening to everyone that owns this car and yet Hyundai still hasn't recalled the handles. I'm so pissed about being stuck with the bill for this twice now.

This is now the second time in the last year that I have had to spend several hundred dollars to fix a door handle. The first time this happened it was the drivers side rear door that came off. In addition, that latch is faulty and sometimes doesn't unlatch. This was not fixed due to it costing an additional $280.
Today, I walk out to my car and open the drivers door and the handle comes off in my hand. We've had no big weather changes in months. I'm not particularly hard on my door, and from what I can see online this is a problem for many owners of these cars. However, Hyundai still hasn't issued a recall so we just get stuck with the massive bill each time.
I've otherwise been fairly happy with my Hyundai but after this happening twice in a year I don't think I'll ever purchase their cars again.
- Ashleigh V., Raleigh, NC, US
So, this was # 1 (driver's side door handle) that fell off. Another 2 also broke. Can't believe there is no recall.
I tried to fix myself but had to have mechanic fix instead.
