Sonata

  • 104,000 miles
While driving on the highway, I've had several instances where I push the gas pedal down and the car does not accelerate. This is a known issue in other Hyundai vehicles with the brake pedal stopper and I'm wondering if my 2013 Hyundai Sonata is having this same problem that was recalled on many other vehicles.

Every time that I drive my vehicle my car stalls and it almost cause me to wreck. I had fuel pump problem in which I spent over $1,000 to get fixed is still having issues and the Hyundai will not refund me my money knowing that the fuel pump has a recall. They have constantly been giving me the run around.

My vehicle only has over 150,000 miles on it and I kept up my maintenance. My engine has seized more than once. My vehicle never let me know I was on empty, my dashboard showed me I had 3 lines of fuel but it would not start until I put gas. While I was driving my engine seized, I checked my oil and I had zero fuel, this was a month after my oil change. The second time my engine seized I was turning on a city street and I had to pull over because my engine seized again. For some reason, my fuel just disappears with no visible leaks.

While driving the car, sometimes it does not respond to the pushing of the accelerator thereby either slowing down or hesitating creating scary and hazardous conditions on the road. This happens while driving on the interstate at high speeds or on the city roads in slow traffic. The behavior is unpredictable and uncontrollable. Also, the brake light stays on even when the brake pedal is not touched which is dangerous while driving. Upon research on line, this is not an isolated case but has happened to a number of Hyundai vehicles. It seems this has to do with either the rubber stopper of the brake switch or the failure of the brake switch or both. I called Hyundai and was informed that no recalls have been issued to fix this problem but the warranty on the stopper has been extended to 15 years and unlimited miles. They should extend this warranty not just to the stopper but to the whole switch assembly. It is obvious that Hyundai has acknowledged the problem with the brake switch assembly but is not informing the owners of the potential safety hazard caused by the failure of this assembly. In reality they should issue a recall to replace this assembly.

Driving my car 2013 Hyundai Sonata from nyc to Ohio, car overheated and shut down on interstate 80 West bound police mandated a tow to nearby mechanic where they said my thermostat along with thermostat housing was fried up. It was replaced only to 3 months later car overheated again, along with gas smells in the air vents, and stalling as well as total engine power loss. However, couple months later, recall 189 was issued but didn't resolve overheating issue, in fact made the car reacted more negatively. One more month later I was notified of Hyundai theta engine class action law suit settlement and pursued nearby dealership who said they would diagnose it, which showed 7 coders showing misfire and one for battery faulty and one for the gas rail and pipes. My dealership didn't notify Hyundai that I mentioned my car had been stalling, shutting itself down a few times and Hyundai denied my claim for repairs under this settlement which is a lifetime warranty on the engine. There is extremely something faulty with the gas piping on this engine

Full engine shutdown while going 70 on the highway., no brakes, gas, steering wheel, but surprisingly I was able to roll safely to a stop without coming in contact with anything/one. Hyundai agreed the engine had seized so they replaced it but not the initial issue of the fuel feed line.(which I got a recall in the mail the next day for a fuel line) Hyundai has not given me an estimated time frame in when this recall will be fixed. Kinda scary to drive around in....

My car has lost power while driving. It has now happened 3 times. Luckily it has happened while on a road and not the highway. There are other times when I'm stopped at a red light or stop sign and I can feel the car losing power and/or sputtering. The car will turn on after trying a few tries and will have the engine and traction control alerts lights on. Sometimes I will have to keep pushing on the gas while stepping on the break to keep the engine revving so the car doesn't die. The are also times when it seems the car loses power momentarily then keeps going. Very scary and dangerous.

On 02/28/2020 I received a notice (Hyundai recall #189, NHTSA recall #20V-121) of a defect in the fuel feed line that could result in an engine fire. Over 4 months later, Hyundai motor America advises that "we are currently preparing a remedy." It would seem that overcoming the risk of an engine fire would be addressed with much more urgency since bodily injury and property damage are at stake.can you assist in speeding up the determination of a remedy

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V121000 (fuel system, gasoline) however, the recall was not able to be completed due part to the repair being unavailable. The contact had not contacted the dealer. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that when driving at highway speeds they would smell a burning order coming from the vents of the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000. The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact initially discovered a recall for NHTSA campaign number :20V121000(fuel system, gasoline). Jones bel air Hyundai (1504 belair rd, bel air, md 21014) was contacted and confirmed that his vehicle was included in the recall. An appointment was made and a new motor and fuel line was placed into the vehicle. The contact stated that the after the repair, the vehicle would hesitate to start as an unknown warning light would illuminate on the dashboard. On May 18, 2020, upon attempting to start the vehicle, white smoke began to emit from the hood. The contact then exited the vehicle and checked under the hood as flames began to emit from the vehicle. The fire department was called and the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported and a fire report was taken. I AM INQUIRING ABOUT AN "OPEN RECALL" ON MY 2013 HYUNDAI SONATA GLS. THE OFFICIAL RECALL TITLE IS "CAMPAIGN 189" IT INVOLVES THE "FUEL LINE" AND COULD LEAD TO A POSSIBLE FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I JUST PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN EARLY JUNE FROM "GETTEL HYUNDAI/ BEE RIDGE IN SARASOTA, FL. LOOKING UP THE RECALL INFORMATION--IT WAS LISTED AS "NO REMEDY AVAILABLE." THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED ON 3/4/20... AND ACCORDING TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REMEDIED BY APRIL. AS I WRITE THIS WE ARE INTO JULY! I HAVE CONTACTED HYUNDAI OF AMERICA CORPORATE OFFICES AS WELL AS THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. NEITHER COULD GIVE ME ANY ANSWERS AS TO WHEN THIS ISSUE COULD BE ADDRESSED"?? ALL I WAS TOLD IS THAT IF I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE THAT CONCERNS CAMPAIGN 189... IT WILL REPAIRED--OF COURSE--FREE OF CHARGE. SO I GUESS IF MY ENGINE CATCHES ON FIRE ON A HIGHWAY SOME NIGHT--IT'LL BE TAKEN CARE OF?" I WANT THE RECALL ISSUE OF MY CAR ADDRESSED NOW !!! NO MORE RUN-AROUND AND STUPID SCENARIOS---FIX THE CAR. WHATEVER YOU CAN DO FOR ME WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU [XXX] SARASOTA, FL INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While accelerating from a stop, loss of power. While accelerating going up a hill extreme los of power and 'chuggy' and 'spitting' to get up hill. Now this week, any acceleration from a stop... chug spits and extreme loss of power. As if no fuel to engine. Pump the pedal eventually again power. It also has stopped completely while making a turn very dangerous. I had the fuel filter replaced; this shows good compression while sitting and running. But on the road complete loss of power and now I smell gas, yet compression shows no issue.

Late April noticed gas odor coming from car after turning it off. Hyundai website indicated recall for this issue - campaign 189. Contacted Hyundai to find out how to get fixed. This in part their response: Our records indicate that your vehicle is not affected by campaign 189. Made appointment with regular ase-certified master technician. He identified the fuel leak and noted on invoice: Active fuel leak present, above fuel tank, probable cracked fuel pump module. If so pump replacement estimate is $750 (Hyundai pump/seal, labor, tax). Fuel leak is a major safety issue, fire hazard, raw fuel just looking for an ignition source. I notified Hyundai of confirmed defect. This is in part their response: We are sorry to hear that you still have concerns regarding your 2013 Hyundai Sonata and that from the information you received from an independent repair facility. However, based upon the information you provided, we recommend you schedule an appointment with the service department of your local Hyundai dealership to have your 2013 Sonata inspected and diagnosed. As the attached repair order you sent in does not show that the diagnostics where from a Hyundai dealership. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, Hyundai customer care center is unable to diagnose over the phone or through email. Our dealerships are also the best-trained and most-qualified to service and maintain your Hyundai vehicle. Only authorized Hyundai dealerships can determine whether the repair in question would be covered by both warranty and/or campaigns offered by Hyundai that are VIN specific. Please note that effective immediately, Hyundai motor America will no longer consider any goodwill for any independent repair facility repairs regardless of the situation. This was put into effect as of 4/1/2020. Tremendous safety issue requiring Hyundai attention.
