Cherokee

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

The car sensors "sees" something directly behind us/under us as if we are hitting something, slams on the brake and you have to turn off the car and start over. Over and over. We have taken it to the dealer multiple times and they have no idea how to fix this. Sensors, wiring, paint on sensors.... and sometimes it does work. Others it won't for days? Help!!!!

Cherokee Trailhawk 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 972 miles

The backup sensor begins beeping and will not stop until the car is shut off and sits for awhile. The 1st time this happened was within 1 month of owning the car and no lights or indicators of any sort were displayed. I had no idea what was happening. I took it to the dealership and neither did they!!

I have had this happen several times now in the 5 months I have owned this car. The last time being 2 weeks ago. I realized the last time that I had the car in reverse to back out of a parking space and someone drove behind me, setting off the sensor / beeping. Thinking back, this is what set it off each time.

I actually recorded the incident this time so the dealer could hear what was going on. They advised me that this was a known software issue and they did some sort of soft reset which they said should lower the amount of times it was happening. The "fix" was to come out 3rd quarter of this year. Since this is not a RECALL...yet...there will be no notification to let me know the fix is available but I will be following up with my dealership this Fall!!

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,352 miles

When I backed out of a parking space the back up alarm went off and would not stop. I pulled over, stopped and got out of the car. After letting it sit for a few minutes all was well. This was the second time this happened and when I called the dealer they said they have no reports on this issue. I looked on this site and there were 5 exactly same issues. Guess the dealers need to get someone on this site to check what's going on with their vehicles!

Cherokee North 4x4 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,118 miles

On four different occasions an alarm would go off in the vehicle and would not stop until the vehicle was turned off and set for several minutes. The trigger seems to be if the Cherokee is started while simultaneously another vehicle is driving behind it and within range of the backup sensors.

It's very annoying, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the issue was at first, as there is no notification on the dash board or displays, but I noticed the third time it happened that someone was driving behind me at the time, and again when it happened yesterday (and the first two times it also started up in crowded parking lots, so there is a good chance that is the trigger).

Cherokee Limited 2.4L 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,725 miles

When in reverse, the backup sensor alarm kicks into an incessant beep that will not stop! I have to pull off the road, turn off the engine and get out of the car. After five minutes I can get on my way. This issue started within the first week of my purchase with just over 100 miles on the car. Almost 4 months later, two shop visits there's no end in sight - I have logged 42 errant alarms between 9/22/14 and 12/31/2014!!
