4 wheel drives becomes temporarily unavailable when on the beach in Cape Hatteras North Carolina. I entered Ramp 43 & 44 in Buxton NC
1. Saturday July 11, 2015 late afternoon temp about 88 to 90. Deflated air pressure to 20lbs. Drove to beach, when got to ramp 43 put car in Sand and Mud drove a little bit then it said 4 wheel drive unavailable. It also flashed an Icon which I thought meant 4 wheel drive out of service but after talking to Kindle service Man on July 21, 2015 I found out it meant Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light 2. Got stuck in sand, deflated tires to 15 pounds, 4 wheel drive still temporarily unavailable, drove off beach called Jeep via the mirror Unconnect . 3. The Jeep Unconnect guy said to take the Jeep to dealer. 4. Drove on pavement in automatic and the 4 wheel drive became available 5. Monday July 13,2015, PM took to Outer Banks Chrysler Dodge Jeep 6. They said it was fixed, they said no errors codes. They did reset and update on 4 wheel drive and transmission 7. Left dealership went to stop could not re start car took back to dealership after I called Unconnect Unconnect said it was battery , and it needed to be replaced, The vehicle is 6 months old. Dealership said they did another computer re set. 8. Tuesday July 14. 2015 about 7pm Deflated air pressure to 20lbs. Drove to beach, when got to ramp 44 put car in Sand and Mud drive then took Ramp 43 a little bit then it said 4 wheel drive unavailable and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light — light up. 9. The car sat for a while then was driven for a while in Automatic on asphalt then the 4 wheel drive became available and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light went out. 10. Wednesday July 15, 2015, took back to dealership, they said they called Chrysler and Chrysler said to do another update, so they did the update 11. Wednesday July 15, 2015, about 1pm took out Deflated air pressure to 20lbs. Drove to beach, when got to ramp 43 put car in Sand and Mud drove a little bit then it said 4 wheel drive unavailable and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light — light up. 12. Got stuck in sand and had to dig out and deflate air pressure to 15 pounds 13. The 4wheel drive became available after driving on asphalt after being shut off for about 30 minutes and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light unlighted 14. I called Kindle ford and they told me they would check it over and then fix it the old fashioned way. Because there is no error codes according to Outer Banks Motor 15. Called Outer Banks Motor, They told me they could call Chrysler but it may take 3 days to respond, I said OK, do I have to bring my car for them to call Chrysler they said Yes 16. Wednesday July 15, 2015, about 4pm. Drove 1 and half hours to dealership 17. OuterBanks Dealership said that in order for them to call Chrysler I had to leave my vehicle there for 3 days. I have no other transportation can not leave vehicle there. 18. Outer banks dealership said it was all wheel drive vehicle and, I showed them the screen shot that said 4 wheel drive temporarily unavailable they said to try running it in Automatic and that should work if it does not work it is not meant to drive on beach and nothing more that they could do. 19. Wednesday July 15, 2015, about 7pm, deflated air pressure in tires to about 20 pounds, drove on ramp 44, in Automatic like the dealership said, the icon for Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light in and out flashed several times, then it finally went to 4 wheel drive unavailable, and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light — continually stated on 20. It sat for a little, then I drove on asphalt in automatic and the 4 wheel drive became available, and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light — became un light. I heard grinding sound in the back a couple of times before the Icon went out. 21. Wednesday July 15, 2015, 10:25pm 1877 426 5337, Jeep told me they would contact the dealer and get back to me. 22. Thursday July 16, 2015, 9:24am 1-877-426-5337 Called to asl why they have not called back reference calling the dealer. The dealer opened at 8 am. They never contacted the dealership this morning like they promised. I waited an hour and half for them to call me back. Now I am waiting for them to call the dealership it is 9:30am. 23. Jeep reported that they Spoke to a Nora at outer banks Jeep, Jeep says they will send my call to unable to resolve and duplicate department. And will receive a call in one business day. By 8pm Friday July 17, 2015. 24. Friday july 17,2015 received a call from Chrysler 1-800-763-8422 They again asked the same questions as prior and said to take it to my local dealer. I told them I called my local dealer and they did not know what to do. The local dealer’s answer was to fix it the old fashion way. Jeep said to take it to my dealer for my Tuesday appointment. To see if they can fix it. This makes no sense to me, 1. I can not try it out to see if it was fixed correctly, 2. Outer Banks Jeep tried to fix it. 3. What can a dealer 300 miles do that a local dealer could not? Jeep said they would call after I took it to Kindle. 25. Tuesday July 21, 2015, I took it to the Kindle, they said they found a code for the steering nothing else. They said since they can not replicate the problem and there are no error codes they are unable to fix it. The only way to replicate the problem is to drive over 300 miles away to Cape Hatteras NC and drive on the beach and watch the message center say 4 wheel unavialible and the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light, illuminate. 26. The service manager looked at my screen shots of the my error codes and noticed Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Activation/ Malfunction Indicator Light — illuminated. I thought it meant the 4 wheel drive was out of service. He took the time to educate me and explain what that light was. 27. Wednesday July 22, 2015, 10:40am Called 1-800-763-8433 Case #27349737 Case manager Frank X40769 said he would call kindle and get back to me 28. Case Manager Frank called back Could not duplicate concern said since we can not duplicate problem then we can not fix it. He offered me a service protection plan (which I already have) and closing the case out. I said you will not fix the problem, if I get stuck on the beach will not tow off of beach so essentially Jeep is telling me I sold you a Jeep saying it would drive on the beach Now Jeep is saying don’t drive it on the beach because It will get stuck because the 4 wheel drive will become temporarily unavailable and the Jeep will get stuck and Jeep will not tow it off the beach or fix the problem. After that Case Manager Frank said we will ask dealer to submit a case to Jeep and we should hear back with in a week (July 30, 2015) 29. Monday July 27, 2015 stopped by Jeep dealership got a copy of my record. And they told me the submitted a request to Jeep to look into the problem 30. July 28, 2015, 10:06am Frank left voice mail message saying since we can not replicate the problem we will offer you a service protection plan for free (which I already have and paid for) and close the case out 31. July 28, 2015, 10:35 am Called frank back Operator said recall on Radio. I was transferred to Frank’s voice mail I told him I find that offer unacceptable 32. Frank said (The phone call was recorded) he was closing the case with no resolution. He said I would need a flight data recorder. I said It would cost me $100 for ferry and $50 for beach permit to do it. He said let me call Kindle and get back to you. And why didn’t the dealership in the outer banks offer me one when I was there 3 times the only thing they offered me was to keep my vehicle for a week with no other vehicle and while they called Chrysler for an answer. He goes well maybe they did not have a flight data recorder. 33. July 28, 2015, 2:220pm I left message – I am returning your phone call 34. July 28, 2015 4:44pm I left a message “I can get the vehicle on the beach at 6pm if I can have your service advisor meet me I can replicate the problem for you†35. July 28, 2015, 5pm Frank called back said he could not order the tech out on the beach with me and he said he will see if Kindle has a data recorder. Frank says he is trying to get a replicator for me. I said listen I have replicated the problem 3 times, and now I am offering to replicate it again. He goes I can’t order the dealer to go out on the beach with you. I said Listen I am just trying to get my problem solved. He said he would call the dealer and get back to me. 36. July 28, 2015, 5:16pm Frank says they do not have a data recorder. He said Brent is your contact person confirm with him that he can take you to a construction site near the dealership to see if we can replicate the problem. Call Brent to confirm appointment

So, one day I was just driving around, minding my own business, when the "4wd temporarily unavailable" message came up.
Took the car to the dealer today (one week after it started), only to find out I would need a new rear differential.
I bought a new car so it WOULD be reliable, not the other way around. Between this and my unresolved transmission problem, I'm left wondering how many more problems I will have in the life of the car and how much it will end up costing me once the warranty is gone.
In the end, I will be getting a different car from a different brand and I will never be buying a Fiat/Chrysler vehicle again.
