Driving on highway and SVC 4WD indicator appeared then an alert message on dash saying sensor overheated and 4WD is no longer available. Had a loss of acceleration, poor shifting, and hard grinding noise coming from either the ptu or transmission.

Since very beginning, this vehicle has issue with shifting gears. In the middle of the road, it abruptly shifts the gears with scary noise and whole car vibrates like someone crashes you. I was in the dealer twice for this problem and there was a recall as well. But it didn't fix the issue.

i had the "Service 4WD" light come on in my vehicle. Being concerned, I started researching what it could be. While looking into the issues I found that a lot of Jeep customers (all different models) are having PTU failures. Of course the diagnosis came back that I needed to replace the PTU. My concern is that from what I have read, the vehicle could just stop going into gear. How is it that other vehicles of the year and model are covered but mine is not. I've worked in the automotive industry for years and I understand production dates and all that, but if they are having so many issues why are any vehicle not covered? It seems to me that they know there is a major problem and not addressing it across the board. I have contacted Jeep and was explained all the things that are no longer covered on my vehicle, but nothing about the issue I am having, other than "Uh Yeah, that's not covered". It has soured my opinion of owning a Jeep. This is my 2nd Jeep, I also have an 06 Commander, which I am having to replace the engine in. At this point I think maybe I should just forget owning any Jeep vehicles because they don't stand behind their vehicles.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, she noticed fluid leaking underneath the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear differential had fractured internally and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 45-50 MPH, the vehicle experienced hard shifting. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needed to be replaced; however, the part to repair the vehicle was not available. The vehicle was taken back to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

I have had this shifter on my car changed and serviced 4 times and I still have an issue. The car keeps saying service shifter everytime I reverse. Barking brake module needed to be replaced. Car roof was leaking causing major damage to my car. I have all paperwork of services. Jeep tells me that because my car is not under warranty they can not assist me. I spent about 5k on fixing this car alone not including payments. I took this car to who jeep referred I also took it to the dealership I brought it from and same issue until this day. I gave up!!!!

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the message "Unable to Use 4x4 At This Time-?? was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear end needed to be replaced because it was a sealed unit. The dealer stated that the parts were not yet available and were currently on backorder for a year. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH uphill, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull into a driveway. The contact stated that while shifting into reverse(R), the rearview camera engaged; however, the vehicle failed to respond, and the electric parking brake engaged independently. The contact stated that he disengaged the electric parking brake and shifted into drive(D); however, the failure recurred, and the parking brake engaged independently. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the Power Transfer Unit Input Splines were fractured and needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V529000 (Power Train). The vehicle was not repaired. An unknown dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

Transfer case recall. 2015 not included. Vehicle has 65,000 miles, looks new, no trailer hitch. First detected [XXX]. Still no part available, Jeep US not helpful, apparently "expedited " part three times. Clearly a manufacturer defect on all vehicles affected and should be covered. Jeep should pay for the part at this point and provide a vehicle while I am waiting, over two months since I was told to replace the part still no results. Car cannot be driven. Brakes can fail with this malfunctioning transfer case. Goss Dodge South Burlington VT has been very good it is out of their hands waiting for the part as well. Clearly it is a huge issue on these vehicles if the part is still not available. No warning signs, just got a "noise" in the front end. I went to muffler man hearing a noise in the undercarriage and they found it to be in the powertrain area when I'm driving it, it sounds like the wheel spinning is missing skipping some of the teeth. When it happened I was in a left turn lane waiting to turn when I finally turned it sounded kinda like a pop noise then it started making grinding noise.

The drive train PTU and it is available for inspection upon request. -??How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A. According to FCA this problem could cause an accident as I could lose all power while driving if it fails completely while in motion and I have not been able to use my 4WD drive reliably when needed. -??Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? A. The problem is a known issue by FCA. At Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Warrenton the service writer told me that my vehicle was not throwing out the right code for the work to be covered by warranty, however now Chrysler is saying that because my code C14A7-97 does not align with the codes under this "warranty" they will not cover this replacement. The codes that are under this warranty are P1720-00 and P215C-00. Chrysler is aware that this part is faulty and should be held responsible for fixing this as it could be deadly. -??Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? A. Yes, I took my vehicle to Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Warrenton on [XXX] to have a problem with the service 4x4 dash light continuously coming on diagnosed and repaired. -??Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear" A. Yes, the Service 4x4 MIL light started coming on almost daily. I first noticed the problem about 3 years after purchasing the vehicle and mentioned it to the dealer and they applied the [XXX] software patch. This did not fix the issue. We were informed by our dealership, Kaiser Bros in Muncy PA (Jeff Lee; Service Advisor) that our power transfer unit is faulty in our 2015 Jeep Latitude which doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. There are metal flakes in the power transfer units fluid, this could cause an accident as I could lose all power while driving. I initially reached out to Chrysler Jeep on 2/28/23 and was told that there was an extended warranty on this part JX1 until 2030 and to take it to the dealership to be fixed. The person at Chrysler did not ask for a code of any sort, however now Chrysler is saying that because my code C14A7-97 does not align with the codes under this "warranty" they will not cover this to be replaced. The codes that are under this warranty are P1720-00 and P215C-00. Chrysler is aware that this part is faulty and should be held responsible for fixing this as it could be deadly. Schenice, at Chrysler Jeep informed today there was a "warranty" for this specific code but that it expired on January 22nd 2023, we were never made aware of this or it would have been fixed as I have children I drive around with. Something that could be deadly should never have an expiration date on the warranty. We take our vehicle to Kaiser Bros. for all repairs and maintenance and this was never once brought to our attention.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while his son was driving at approximately 35 MPH, he heard abnormally loud rumbling sounds coming from the under the floorboards. The contact that stated that his son saw no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that his son drove the vehicle directly to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transfer case bolts, and the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that he contacted and informed the manufacturer of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20E037000 (Power Train). The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Randomly an audible alarm sounds and the dash indicates "Service Shifter" while the digital dashboard indicators do not allow to navigate away from that notice, and all of the lights on the transmission indicators illuminate. I called the dealer and they said they were aware of issues with that, but no recall exists. I Googled the "Service Shifter" and my model vehicle and apparently it's a larger problem than the Dealer indicated on the phone. I was advised to turn the vehicle off, open the door, close the door, and restart the vehicle. The error cleared but later intermittently reappears.

Our 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is being recalled for transmission and power lift gate. These parts cannot be fixed because the parts are not avaiable. Also they updated the navigation and UCONNECT and vehicles 2015-2018 are not eligible for the update. They changed from 3G to 4G. And our Jeep is not qualified. We went to another car dealer and were told because of the recalls which they have many on their lot, we were offered only 7000 dollars for trade. Because of the recalls, we need to get another vehicle.

I received an error message on the dash that the PTU failed which is a common failure on this Jeep. Mine was diagnosed by a local dealership. They informed me that the PTU ws determined to be ok, and the Transmission Control Module was actually at fault. After waiting for the part, which wasn't available due to the Stellantis strike. When I was waiting for the parts to come in, the dealer said I could drive the Jeep since it was electronic part failure and as long as I didn't engage the 4-wh. dr. to power the rear wheels, it would be ok to drive. When the TCM was received, I dropped the Jeep off for service. The part was replaced, error cleared, and test driven by the technician. The error message immediately returned. At this point, the technician decided to do a visual inspection of the drivetrain. He found the rear differential cracked all the way around, and all fluids had leaked out. If the rear differential had locked up or CV snapped off due to lack of lubrication, it could have caused a serious, possibly deadly accident. I feel the technician should have performed a complete inspection of the driveline first, before trusting the computer to correctly diagnose the problem. After talking to other Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk owners, it appears they had similar situations with the rear differential splitting open much too often for a front wheel drive midsize SUV.

The transmission 'locks' into neutral while at a light or stop or when trying to reverse. You must put the vehicle in to Park to reset the transmission. The engine will rev with the transmission 'locked' in a neutral state. Note: the vehicle was not moved into neutral. You are actively in drive or revs when it almost slips into the neutral state. The gear shift still shows in drive or revs, but the transmission is not engaged.
