Have to check and put oil in my jeep every other day. Engine stalled a few times I called the dealership and was told about a recall. At this point after my engine stalled in traffic yet again it is a safety issue. I was very scared I was about to get hit. Checked oil, low and behold damn near no oil. No oil light came on indicating low oil or anything. I’ve wasted too much money on this jeep and I’m sick of it.

We had the oil consumption TSB recall done to our vehicle. A little over a day after the update, the Low Oil Pressure light came on in our vehicle. We took it back to the dealer and the sensor was to be replaced. That same day getting it back, the same light went on. We think there is a flaw in the update... Anyone else having a problem with this?

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission

Jeep consumes about 1 quart every 1,000 miles. The engine runs bad, timing is off, transmission slams in lower gears, and it makes a rattling sound.

Cherokee Latitude

  • Automatic transmission

I was leaving a parking lot and was about to go only US 19 and my Jeep slowly lost power less then a minute of driving and suddenly came to a stop. Car gave me no engine sign or anything to tell me this was happening. Luckily I didn’t make it onto US 19 or that would have been a huge mess. It then gets towed to the dealership and tell me it has no oil but it was not at all due for a oil change.

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L I4

  • 48,000 miles

We had our Jeep towed into the dealer, because it stalled on us. I was told it was 4 quarts low on oil. I was also told it was 2K over on last oil change. I told the service guy it was not, the sticker in the window was for 3k miles not his recommended 5k miles, therefore it was time to do an oil change. He told me They had already done it without me saying to do it. That is fine it was time. I have had the Jeep for about 12K miles. That was the 3rd oil change with synthetic oil. He told me he wanted to do oil consumption study. After 500 miles I checked it here at the house, it was about a quart low. About a week later(about 750 miles) it was taken in because of another issue. I told them the codes it gave me. I also told them to go ahead and check the oil. After three days they said the oil was fine. I checked it when I got home. Off course it was fine they had added oil to it. I contacted Chrysler, I have a number but no one has called me back on this issue. If you live in Florida DO NOT GO TO ARRIGO IN FORT PIERCE FOR ANY REASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cherokee Sport 2.4L Inline 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,105 miles

Had problem with engine stall while braking and cornering. Checked oil levels and was over a quart low. Car was recently serviced. Though they must have forgotten to add some oil. Checked oil again just over a week later and was down another quart. Took it to the dealership and had them check oil consumption. I was told that a quart of oil every 850 miles is ok for this model. This is stupid, why would I ever do an oil change, by the time I get to 3000 miles I have pretty much replaced the oil. I have no faith in an engine the uses that much oil. This will be my first and last Jeep purchase. I will be trading this in for anything I can find.

Cherokee Latitude 1.6L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,500 miles

I see alot of reports about excessive oil consumption and engine shut down. Bought this in November, 2016 with 53k miles on it. The oil was just changed according to dealer and gauge read 100% life. 2 months later, my wife and I heard a 'chime' sound within the dash but no other warnings. Happened may be 3 or 4 times and usually when we were braking. 3 days later, was driving down hill and hit the brake and it stalled. Had to wait a minute or so until it would restart. Then it appeared to not be able to get any RPM's when I pushed on the accelerator. However, when put into drive it was fine. 30 seconds later it happened again when I was braking to turn left. Happened 2 more times over the next 2 days (one in an intersection which was dangerous as everyone thinks you'll move before they get there). Took it to a Jeep dealer and found out it was down 3 quarts of oil. I was told that the engine would shut down on purpose to protect it. NOT SAFE. If the 'check engine oil' light came on, I would have checked the engine oil. but not 3000 miles after a fresh oil change. Anyhow, the dealer gave me an oil change and asked that I stop back every 500 miles to have it checked. After 1500 miles, I was down a quart! According to the Jeep criteria, they will only react when you have to add a quart before 2000 miles (if the engine has less than 50k miles) or when you have to add a quart before 750 miles (if the engine is over 50k miles). So I'm basically out of luck other than I now know to check my oil much more frequently than I ever have since the 1970's. Sad part is I'm betting the Jeep dealer that sold this to me knew of this condition but never said a word. This puts a driver in a very bad situation if they are not aware to check the oil often. If it would have stalled in a different place (like a 2 stop intersection), I would likely have been T-boned. Not safe at all.

Cherokee Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,200 miles

I had to go on a 3 hour trip. So, like any normal person would, I checked the oil. It wasn't even in the operating range. I then double checked my sticker. I still had 2,000 miles until my next scheduled service. I also noticed some engine ticking, not the usual loud multi air noise either. I then put a quart of oil in and it brought it to the mid-point. I then made an appointment, and was looked at like I was stupid by the service manager. He said you dont wait until your car tells you its time to change the oil. I then preceded to tell him, I still have 2,000 miles to the next service according to your sticker!. He said I'm waiting to long between oil changes. I'm like what?? You cant go more then 5,000 miles on standard oil. no duh! its full synthetic oil... omg these guys are stupid. He then gave me a loaner and told me to bring it back full.. OK no problem, don't be a jerk about it. They had my car for 3 days and said there is no abnormal engine sounds and they couldn't find anything wrong with the motor, but you need your transmission replaced. WTF? I'm so unhappy with my purchase, and my service. Go in for low oil and engine noise and they are going to replace the transmission. Never again will I buy a Jeep / Chrysler product.

Update from Mar 1, 2016: I now have a case number open with Chrysler Corporate. They made an appointment with another local dealer to do diagnostics to my vehicle. I'm not very optimistic on what's going to happen. My car isn't even a year old and has 11,000 miles on it. This shouldn't be happening. Motor is now knocking and ticking and makes a buzzing noise when shut off. Sounds like a far away car horn.
