About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Reference the complaint listed below ( NHTSA id 11270672 ) on October 24, 2019. I have had the exact same issue/problem concerning the gas/fuel cap sensor since November 2016. Made multiple attempts of having it fixed at local Chrysler Jeep dealership with zero success. The only difference from the referenced complaint below is that I have not had a vapor test nor have I replaced my gas cap because I was told by the service department; verbatim : 'this is a known issue that can not be fixed.' In addition; the fuel/gas cap issue is only one of several issues that I've encountered all with the same response from the dealership ' 'it's a known problem but we can't fix it'. I will never purchase a Chrysler branded vehicle again. Lesson learned as this Cherokee is 'an even swap' for my original Cherokee that was both newly purchased & dead (transmission failure) all within the month of December 2014. So for the owner in cary, nc who posted (see below) ' you are not alone! ''-original complaint'- October 24, 2019 NHTSA id number: 11270672 components: Engine, unknown or other NHTSA id number: 11270672 incident date July 17, 2017 consumer location cary, nc vehicle identification number [xxx] summary of complaint crashno fireno injuries0 deaths0 my gas cap light has been on for 2 years. I apparently am the only one with this issue and have been told there is nothing that can be done as they need a flash to reset the motherboard. In the meantime to rule things out I had to have the vapor test done and replace the gas cap which of course solvee nothing.
