service transmission warning on

Since April 2015 my Jeep Cherokee has been the worse experience in my life and I have owned/leased many vehicles. Since I drove the Jeep off the lot from Teterboro Jeep, I have always experience acceleration problems, gears not shifting properly and gears staying in same gear for way too long.

I have made this complaint to the service department at Teterboro Jeep and the service dept (Mike) has stated it is normal for a luxury Jeep to shift rather rough. Well today as I was driving on the NJ Turnpike south heading to work to Union, NJ my Jeep "SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT" came on and the Jeep engine was loud but the Jeep was not moving causing the Jeep to slow down and with the Mack trucks on the turnpike and almost having one almost rear end me, thank goodness I put my hazards on quick and tapped may breaks as a warning sign "trouble with the Jeep". I was forced to pull over on the shoulder of the NJ Turnpike turned the Jeep off and on again but the light remained and attempting to merge back on a busy turnpike was a challenge since the Jeep did not have any acceleration, finally making it to work safe it was rather difficult to park since "REVERSE" was not working and the engine just revved and the Jeep did not move. I had no choice but to let the Jeep roll back and park it the best I could.

I called the service department at Teterboro Jeep spoke with the service department, Mike, explained my problem which I have expressed so many other times, all he said "Bring it in, drop it off and when we can we will take a look at it, maybe tomorrow if not maybe Monday". This answer is unacceptable but nothing I can do because the service department does not care for others safety, they are paid no matter what, even if they fix the problem or do not and will never attempt to check for any recalls unless the customer brings it up, which is unacceptable. I have asked the dealer to put me in another Jeep but they refuse and have done nothing to make me a satisfied customer. This dealership might sell the most but they are the worse because they do not stand by any of their trucks, cars that they sell. Once the vehicle is sold, driven off the lot it is more like "out of sight, out of mind" "not my problem". The dealer has a bad negative attitude and maybe it is just the service department but the owner of this dealership needs to be held accountable.

The transmission never feel well, bad shifting, noises, clanking. Now just after a clank sound all the lights on the panel went on and the computer send two messages, one said anti lock brake service and the transmission service, and of course the check engine light. When this happens the car loses power, the brake pedal vibrates and the steering wheel it's weird, like hard to move.

I purchased my Jeep Trailhawk in 2015 and was really excited until the "Service Transmission" message came on and my car decided it was going to come to a stop. The vehicle was taken in for an oil change and had the Dealership Service Department see if they could read the error code. They came back that there was not coded problem.

Then again this same message flashed "Service Transmission" and had to quickly move my car to the turning lane and turn off. I sat with my flashers going so I would not get hit by another vehicle. After 10 minutes, restarted the vehicle and on to my destination.

I called the Dealership and informed them of the message I received and took a picture of the message to show the Dealership. My vehicle has been in the Dealership for a week. I am getting frustrated that the Dealership not being able to find the problem even after they cleared the updates. I got on line and found complaints on the same issue I am having with my vehicle from other consumers with the problem to be on going.

I am greatly disappointed with this vehicle!!! I am looking to contact the Chrysler Corp and filing a complaint.

Jeep is still at dealership we were on vacation going to our destination 160 miles in service transmission light comes on running 75 mph vehicle want accelerate seems to be stuck in hign gear. With no way to keep up with the flow of traffic I pull off next exit and when I reach the top to make turn transmission re-sets sounds like a washing machine out of balance call dealer in Boone NC and they tell me if check engine light is not blinking and is solid on to just drive it and bring it in when I return off vacation. Jeep does fine the week we drive around at our vacation, on our way back home the exact thing happens with almost the same miles so I drive back to dealership where it is hooked up to diagnostic machine was told transmission computer module was burnt up and would probably take a new transmission. They parked Jeep out back of garage rented me a Toyota Corolla to drive and could not give me a answer as to when it would be fixed. My wife is scared to drive it and wanted me to try to trade for another new Jeep model not a Cherokee and I did so 07/05/2016 they offered me 15650.00 on a trade on a vehicle we paid 23000.00 one year ago. We told them to stuff it so I guess we will try the new transmission which I have been told would not fix the problem with the 4 cly motor combo. What fun driving such a piece of crap.

We spoke with the dealership were advised that it was a coding problem with the software and that a patch was needed. They installed the software patch to the computer system and stated the transmission was fine and did not need to be replaced. When asked about how they already had the software patch in place, we were advised that they already had it and it was a known issue. We inquired why weren’t we contacted if it was a known issue and were told that they didn’t know which Jeeps were affected so had to “wait and see” which cars presented with a problem. This is a really safe and customer oriented solution! So Jeep knew there was an issue and that the transmission could stop functioning at any time and failed to advise their customers through phone, email, or mail communication even though the safety and security of their customers was at stake here.

I do not feel safe in my vehicle or that I can take it on long car trips (i.e. more than 30 minutes). This is a brand new vehicle and if I wanted a clunker I would have bought a used vehicle and taken my changes. Part of what you are buying with a new car is the safety and security of knowing you won’t have to deal with these issues with LESS THAN 25K miles on the car.

What if this were at night? What if I was alone with my child? What if it wasn’t normal business hours? What if we were 10 hours from home and in the middle of nowhere? What if this was your 18 year old daughter up in the mountains and in the ice and snow and her transmission failed? What if we were in a horrible car accident and someone was injured or worse, what if it was fatal? I’ve never been more disappointed with a company for failing to put basic respect and safety in front of the bottom line. My questions for Jeep are what are you going to do to make this right? What are you going to do to make this better and make our car safe?

The day it happened my husband was driving on the interestate where the speed limit is 70mph and the service transmission light came on then suddenly the car started to lose power luckily he was able to get it off the road and onto the berm. HE'S LUCKY SOMEONE DIDN'T REAR END HIM OR A TRACTOR AND TRAILOR DID RUN HIM OVER HE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. He managed to get it to a local garage that sells and services Jeeps they said they couldn't look at it for a week from then. He managed to get it home they told him he could drive it but only short distances the day we were to take it back to the garage started down the road a couple miles from home and it shut off and had to be towed !! I feel that JEEP should pay for a rental for me I work and have to find a way to work everyday to keep my job and to add insult to injury the dealer/garage we took it to right out ask if we bought it from him " I said no we didn't" he replied with well I give my customer's priority so I'll get to it when I can ! Check engine light illuminated right at the time I scheduled an oil change. The day I was to drop off the vehicle, on my way to work, the transmission upshifted when I went to accelerate, causing the vehicle to slow down. After releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle downshifted and sped up without pressure on the accelerator.

Vehicle was in the shop for a total of 3 weeks: First the updates were flashed, then the transmission control module was replaced, then Chrysler was consulted and a new transmission put in.

Was in the middle of a business trip (driving around state) and had to cancel due to this issue. My 'Service Transmission' warning came on, and I could no longer accelerate. I pulled over, turned the car off, sat for a minute, then turned it back on. Once back on, the light was no longer on. The dealership said to bring it in anyways. They told me the wiring harness needed replacing, gave me a loaner and I was on my way. Over a week later it was finally ready. The day I got it back, it did this weird shift that jolted the whole car forward abruptly (I was only pulling out of a parking space!) I figured I must have shifter it into drive to soon, but it has done it a few other times, and I always let my car heat up before getting in to drive in the winter.

Update from Feb 15, 2016: Today, the 'Service Transmission' light came on AGAIN. I have only had this car for 3 months so this is extremely frustrating. Called the dealership, and they are going to look at it in the AM. Man at the dealership said they will probably have to replace the transmission.... how is this acceptable for a brand new car!?!? FRUSTRATED

Had my car in for the first service on 12/30/15, and had 4 recalls done, including the R01 (NO issues up to this point.) That update didn't take the first time, and had to be done a 2nd, maybe 3rd time. Got the car on 12/31 when it was done. Last night, the Powertrain Malfunction light came on, and the Auto Start/Stop feature was disbabled (light on.) [Note: I dislike that feature anyway!] After turning the car off, and then back on a little while later, only the Powertrain Malfunction light is illuminated, constantly, not blinking.

Called the Dealer today, and said it was safe to drive as long as it remains steady. Have an appointment for Friday for them to diagnose. Will advise further what the outcome is. Transmission appears to be shifting a tad rougher from 2nd to 3rd, but now seems to be downshifting to a cruise gear (7th) more often. Just attributing the roughness to the light at this point.

Funny how for 10,200 miles it worked just fine until they did the R01, and now less than 150 miles later the light is on. I HOPE this isn't the start of continuous problems with the car, because I love it.

Update from Jan 8, 2016: UPDATE: The Powertrain Malfunction light went out two days after coming on, and did not return. Took it to the Dealer for service today, and guess what......I GET A NEW TRANSMISSION!!!! Yeah (SARCASM!) The new transmission SHOULD work and not have the same software issues. SHOULD being the key word. Can't wait to gripe to Jeep about this fiasco. 10,428 miles, 2015 Jeep...New Transmission due to the R01 recall software fix.

Update from Dec 19, 2016: They did a software Re-Learn at that time, and it fixed the issue. UNTIL yesterday, at 20,428 miles and the check engine light came on as well as the auto-shutoff light. EXACTLY 10,000 miles after the fix! Calling the dealer this morning.

Update from Dec 22, 2016: TSB was performed on 12/20 at mileage 20498. Today at 20598, I got the MIL light and the Auto Engine Shut-off light again....back to the Dealer, AGAIN. Ridiculous.

Update from Jan 7, 2017: After having the MIL light and the Auto Start/Stop lights come on, and then go off for 30 miles or so, then back on...I made it thru Christmas and New Years, took the car into the Dealer, and they planned on replacing the TCM and PCM, as they weren't communicating together. However, Chrysler is replacing the entire transmission. I will pick it up on 1/10, and fingers are crossed this will fix the issue. IF any lights come on after the transmission is replaced, I will be filing a Lemon Law complaint.

Update from Dec 6, 2018: 47470, Engine didn’t start on first try, and Service Transmission, Service Parking Brake, 4WD not available was displayed. Got Engine to start, gifted into reverse with violent clunk. Shifted into Drive with violent clunk. Started in what appeared to be 3rd he’s, no brake assist on hill at a stop. Shifted okay. Drive 12 miles, parked and shut off for 5 min. Started up normal except for the transmission light on. One clunking shift from 2 to 3, then normal ops. Currently at the Dealer for diagnosis. LEMON!!! Want out of Jeep at this point. Zero confidence in product again.

Update from Nov 19, 2019: 10/17/19: reported issues with delayed shift from reverse to neutral to drive, usually first start of the day. Also lack of acceleration, most commonly in 4th or 5th gear, trying to accelerate from 45 to 65 entering a bypass...need to really press on the gas pedal and then once it decides to accelerate, the downshift occurs and OFF you go! Sometimes going down a hill, it downshifts and appears to actually accelerate instead of slow down. Diagnosis was that changing the valve body MAY help with these issues, so we will try that. Part was on back order, or unavailable. Covered under the transmission warranty (so they say.) I will find out next week after they have my Jeep for a few days to do the repair.

I have had my Cherokee for a little over a year. Special ordered exactly how I wanted. Drove for about a year and check engine light came on around 8k miles. Took to dealership within a couple of weeks. (as we were out of town for about 10 days and had to wait until we returned). They did something to it and so we took it home (flashed it?). Engine light came on that very evening and the shifting problems returned.

Called another dealer that is closer to our house and they had us bring in. Gave me a loaner for a week, while they did a couple more fixes. Picked up and drove about two miles and light came on again. Was told it would take 2-3 weeks to get the "next part" that Chrysler suggested. It took nearly 4-5 weeks. 4-5 weeks of me driving a car that won't shift and was scary to drive! Took car in again on Nov 9, they gave a loaner. Kept all week and did a couple of fixes. I picked up Friday night and didn't drive much that weekend but by Monday light was back on. Took car back on Nov 17, they fixed the same exact thing as last time and then I guess discovered that didn't work and decided to replace transmission.

I have had a non-working Jeep for four months. Making payments on a Jeep for 27 days today that I haven't even seen and have no idea when it will be resolved. In the meantime, I filed a lemon law complaint with Chrysler, since this technically makes five attempts to fix a car with under 10k miles. Chrysler said last week they would replace it, but I refuse to have another car made by them until they fix their issues. Waiting on a call for a repurchase. Or will be getting an attorney.

Initially car shuttered when coming to a stop and was downshifting. The engine start/stop malfunction light illuminated and the service engine MIL came on as well. From then on the car behaved as though it was stuck in 3rd gear causing a total lack of torque/power when accelerating from stops, and the engine RPMs were going extremely high and the car wouldn't shift. Even tried using the "manual shift" feature but the car indicated it was shifting gears, but the RPMs did not change, nor could you feel the car shift. When accelerating from a stopped position there was no power and the car crawled/struggled to get moving forward. Was almost T-boned trying to turn across oncoming traffic to get to a parking lot so I could stop. Once I pulled into the parking lot car would not go into reverse. I put it in reverse, but the car wouldn't go. Turned the car off and then on and everything seemed to reset except MIL and car started bevaing normally. I took the car to the dealership and they "reflashed" the PCM, TCM, and BCM.

1 day later the car shutters when down shifting and error lights come on. Loses power, and 50% of the time seems like it is not shifting gears. 25% of the time won't go into reverse. Car behaves normally after restarting though the MIL indicator light remains on. Usually around 10 miles later the whole series of malfunction starts again, always when the car is downshifting before a stop. Just dropped the car off to the dealer and they are having their transmission specialist look at it. When I dropped it off it was giving the same error code, "improbable error" from the TCM/PCM. The lack of power to accelerate and inability to go into reverse makes this car simply unsafe to drive when the errors occur. Attaching first repair invoice from the TCM/PCM/BCM reflash. Waiting to hear what the Transmission Specialist says.

Update from Nov 10, 2015: Dealer replaced Transmission control module and told me to come pick up the car. Went to pick it up, signed off on all the paperwork, and the service guy went to pull my car around. Well he put it in gear and it wouldn't go. Told me they'd have to keep it. The next morning went by to get some stuff out of my jeep and they said it was fixed. not sure what they did to it, but one of there people was out test driving it. They told me to wait 20 minutes for them to return and I could have the car back. Well when the test driver returns with my car, apparently the whole MIL light and engine start stop cycle has started again. They then told me they would have to replace another module. Now 4 days later I was told they'd have to put in a new transmission. Awesome! We will see if that fixes it.

service transmission warning on

If I had known of all the issues they had with the Jeeps I would never have leased this car. I feel so unsafe in this car, I have had it for four months and it has been at the dealer 4 times in the four months I have owned it. This is the third time for the transmission light to be on. The first two times it told me on the computer screen not to drive. So I called a tow truck and had it towed into the dealership. I walked into the managers office at the place and explained what was going on being it was exactly two weeks since I had picked my Jeep up from them for fixing the last problem. After he got all my information into the computer he asked what do you want us to do, it's just a light. I said well I guess I think I want you to fix my car .... He kind of huffed under his breath and said let's go out here he brought me to the girl who always takes my car in and had her deal with it. The last time he was nice and the girl outside was not. I guess they are just sick of seeing me but I'm sick of seeing them.

You buy a new car so you have a reliable vehicle, the one I have is not, it has been a p.o.s since the day I brought it home. Apparently when they were putting together all the 2015 jeep Cherokee the guys must have slept through half the process. All the recalls and problems all the ones that are getting new transmissions, really, new cars, come on. I'll just leave it at this, tomorrow morning I'll be back at the dealership, the new transmission is also a p.o.s

Update from Nov 18, 2015: The bad part is the dealership keeps wiping out the codes and putting on paperwork there is nothing wrong with the car when I bring it in every time the transmission light is on.

I just bought the Latitude Saturday. Vehicle only has 100 miles on it (38 on Saturday, I added the rest). On my way to work I was stopped at a light. When it turned green I took my foot off the brake and went to accelerate and the car shutdown. All of the warning lights came on and the SERVICE TRANSMISSION light came on and I needed to restart the car. Once restarted, the warning remained and then the SERVICE PARK BRAKE warning came on. I had to limp it to work the rest of the way (less than a mile).

I've had the car for only 2 days. I bought it brand new! Only 100 miles! I live over 30 miles from the dealership. I've contacted my salesman to give him a heads up and for guidance. From early on, we had a "shimmy" when accelerating, and the transmission was "fussy" at best. It was downright indecisive when slowing on a curve before a steep hill.

We had the vehicle for exactly 3 months, when the vehicle started to rev to 3,000 rpm while at a complete stop. A little farther on the same trip, the "Service Transmission" light came on. By the time we got to the hill approaching the dealer, it gave up completely...and there we sat with cars piling up behind us. Not a good sales pitch for the dealer! After I shut it down and restarted several minutes later, we were able to limp to the service department, where we were informed that there "were some bugs that needed to be worked out with the new transmission". How, in this day can that happen? Shove an inferior, unsafe product out the door before it is tested?

They have now "reflashed the software", and we are picking it up today. After reading the other complaints on this site, I am worried that the problems are just beginning.

We WERE in love with our new vehicle, but after this??
