Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

My experience with this Jeep was horrible. It had a little over 600 miles when leaving home for a trip to college orientation for my daughter. It was approximately 262 miles each way. 200+ miles away and the vehicle and steering wheel began to shake upon putting on the brakes. It eventually stopped. Then 65 mile from home on the highway, surrounded by 18-wheelers, service transmission light and check engine light .

My husband slowed down but continued to drive. As soon as we hit our exit, we stopped to pay the toll and when my husband put his foot on the gas petal, the vehicle wouldn't move. Car had to be towed to the dealer. I was sent to pick up a rental car, but up until yesterday, we had not heard anything about what was going on. My husband then called and was told new rotors were put on the vehicle and that they were waiting on a part to come in.The experience was very traumatic for me. At anytime on the highway, the vehicle could have died! My family's life was put in danger and it was a very scary situation If I had my way, I would never drive the vehicle again but because of Pennsylvania lemon laws, I have to deal with it. The experience was very traumatic for me. Very unhappy!

Update from Aug 21, 2015: Received my vehicle back after 3+ weeks. Rotors replaces, Hydraulic port cover gasket replaced, safety recall performed. Still doesn't feel right when driving and hesitates when stopping at stop signs. Still feel completely unsafe. Tomorrow is the day that I take my daughter to school and I'm about to rent a vehicle because I'm afraid to take this one! Still unhappy and not satisfied!

Cherokee Latitude V4

PURCHASED 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE LATITUDE ON NOVEMBER 20, 2014. NAMED HER LADY JANE.

SHIFTING PROBLEMS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER R01 UPDATE. HESITATION FROM A STOP; DELAYED START AND THEN "TAKES OFF"; SURGING FORWARD WITHOUT FOOT ON GAS; SHIFTS UP WHEN COMING TO A STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKE; THE CAR WILL SPEED UP BEFORE SLOWING DOWN. THIS HAS CAUSE PROBLEMS ON SNOW COVERED ROADS. ITS SCARY TO DRIVE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS IN VERMONT. IT TAKES ME ALL OVER THE ROAD, AND I'VE HAD TO PULL ON MY INNER STRENGTH NOT TO PANIC AND TO GET HER UNDER CONTROL.

LAST WINTER, THE SEAT HEATERS WOULD GET STUCK ON HIGH AND THERE WAS NO WAY OF ADJUSTING IT. OUR BUTTS WOULD BE BURNING UP AND THE ONLY WAY TO TURN IT OFF WAS PULL UP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE JEEP OFF AND WHEN THE SCREEN COMES ON, SHUT IT OFF. THE U-CONNECT SCREEN FROZE UP ON ME REPEATEDLY. THE U-CONNECT WOULD RECONFIGURE ITSELF EVERY FIVE MINUTES. I TOOK VIDEOS OF THIS. TOOK IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM WHAT'S WRONG, THEY WOULD CALL ME TO PICK UP MY JEEP AND CLAIM THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG, EVEN THOUGH THEY FIXED THIS PROBLEM.

TOOK IT IN FOR RECALLS ON AIRBAG AND TOLD DEALER ABOUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES. SHIFTING WITH THE VEHICLE OR ACCELERATING OFTEN HAS UNEXPECTED RESULTS. SHIFTING FROM REVERSE OR PARK TO DRIVE RESULTS IN LUNGING FORWARD WITH INCREASED SPEED. SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO PARK OR PARK TO REVERSE CAN EXPERIENCE FORWARD LUNGING. PRESSING THE GAS, OR EVEN ATTEMPTING RAPID SPEED INCREASE, CAN RESULT IN AN UNRESPONSIVE VEHICLE - NO MOVEMENT FORWARD, HIGH REVS AND SIGNIFICANT RPMS. AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS A RAPID "CATCH" OCCURS AND AN UNCONTROLLED JERKING LUNGE FORWARD. AT 6802 MILES, TRANSMISSION WAS FINALLY REPLACED. WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 11 DAYS FROM 5/18 - 5/28/2015.

THE ISSUES WITH THIS TRANSMISSION ARE A SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN I'M AT AN INTERSECTION WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND NEVER KNOWING HOW THE JEEP WILL RESPOND... I'VE CALLED AND REPORTED THE ISSUES TO CHRYSLER, THEY OPENED A CASE FOR ME. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEMS, AND THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT IS HOW JEEP SHIFTS. MY FIANCÉE OWNS A 2013 GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP AND HIS DEFINITELY DON'T SHIFT THAT WAY.

4 MONTHS LATER MY JEEP IS STILL GIVING PROBLEMS, DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN PUSHING ON GAS, GETS STUCK IN GEAR AND THEN WHEN IT FINALLY FINDS THE RIGHT GEAR THE WHOLE VEHICLE LUNGES. HAVE NOTICED JERKY DOWNSHIFTING AND REVVING OF THE ENGINE UPON SLOWING DOWN MY JEEP STEERING ALSO WOBBLES WHEN DRIVING OVER 35 MPH. I'VE TURNED ON MY INDICATOR, PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, TURN MY ENGINE OFF, GO IN THE STORE, COME BACK OUT, START MY ENGINE AND HAVE MY 4 WAY HAZARD TURN ON WHEN I'M TRYING TO SIMPLY STOP THE INDICATOR. A CLICKING NOISE STARTED AT 9000 MILES, MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP, GUESS WHAT? CV JOINT IS WORN OUT... THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD STILL DRIVE MY JEEP HOME AND THEY'LL CALL ME WHEN ITS IN.

THIS ISN'T SAFE FOR A DRIVER. I FEEL SO UNSAFE IN THIS CAR AND NONE OF THE JEEP EMPLOYEES (AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND CHRYSLER) SEEM TO BE CONCERNED.

Cherokee Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,300 miles

Purchased car in March. Put less than 3000 miles on car and the check engine light went on. Was told to drive it unless the light started blinking (how dumb is that). Almost got hit because the car did not want to go forward. Took to dealer and guess what....new transmission.

Not happy with this issue. I will never feel safe in this car and want a replacement. Jeep just gives you the run around. I will NEVER purchase another Jeep product and this is my 2nd nor will I recommend Jeep or the dealer to anyone. This is a known issue and they will not stand behind the vehicle and replace the vehicle. If the car was a few years old I may be a bit more understanding but at this moment I am not.

Too bad because I really liked my other Jeep but now I have lost faith.

Buyer beware!

Check engine light came on and service start/stop system message appeared. Took it to the dealer and they reflashed the tcm module and a couple days later, the same thing happened again so I'm taking it back to the dealer again. Wondering if anybody else had this issue and what was done to resolve it?

I too have a 2015 Cherokee limited and started getting this problem! I had my check engine lights come on randomly a month back. and went off after a few days. When left with the dealer, they were not able to find the issue and said everything seems fine, and looks alright.

Now have this check engine light signal with a alert "service transmission". - its a brand new Cherokee. Taking it to the service now, and hope hey figure our the issue. (and from what I read it looks like a recurring issue with many Cherokees')

Given my experience so far, the reliability of the Cherokee seem really very poor.

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10 miles

Jeep Cherokee limited with all options ordered from the factory. Built on 4/6/2015, arrived at dealer on 4/11/2015 and was ready for me to pick up on 4/13/2015. After paying for the Jeep I started to drive it home and after about 2 miles got "Service Transmission" message on instrument panel. Drove back to dealer and left it at the service department. Next day was informed that Chrysler says to replace the transmission. It has been sitting at the dealer since the day I purchased it waiting for a new transmission (back ordered). I only drove it for about 10 minutes before it failed. The odometer had about 10 miles on it when I returned it to the dealer.

The car is about a month and a half old. The engine light came on. Brought it to the dealer and first they said the computer needs to be replaced and now they said the transmission needs to be replaced. It is a brand new car! 2 days before the light came on the car was feeling jumpy when accelerating from rest. Will take a week to fix and hope this isn't the first of many problems.

Cherokee Latitude 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 121 miles

Owned my new 2015 Jeep Cherokee for 4 days. I have the one with the Stop/Start feature that I didn't want but salesman said I could just click the button to disengage it. So after hitting the button, I put the car in reverse and stepped on the gas and went absolutely NOWHERE!!!! It acted as if I had the Emergency Brake on (which I did not put on). So I actually put the emergency brake on and then off to see if that solved the problem, but NOOOOOOOOO. It kept flashing...."Service your Transmission" and "Service your Brakes"!!! Had to call the 800 number to get it towed on a Sunday and could not get a rental car. Such an inconvenience and absolutely disgusted with this purchase! I should have stayed a FORD girl!!!!!!! I don't even want this vehicle and it's been in service for a week now having a new transmission installed!!!!!

Dealer said to wait and self diagnostic will fix problems. They did a software update. Two days later problem occurred again. Problem occurs about once a week. Sometimes the car bucks, sometimes it acts like it is stuck in high gear with no power, and sometimes the check engine light and service transmission comes on and goes off the next morning.

Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

6 months after purchase, after coming to a stop at a stop sign and beginning to accelerate, the vehicle jerked with loud clunk sound and warnings came on and vehicle locked up in middle of intersection. Was towed in and I was told a software issue was reset.

2 times in the last 2 months the vehicle has had transmission and engine warnings and it has been in the shop and was told it had software issues and was reset again. One time at 4 am I was traveling in zero degree temperatures and the vehicle would not shift and I had to drive at 40mph the whole time to get to location of where the shop was, driving that way for 60 miles

This weekend at 42,000 miles the vehicle locked up again on the highway with multiple lights coming on as well and had to be towed again. I expect I am going to be told the same thing as before,

At this point it is time for JEEP to replace something and fix the issue! Getting stranded in zero degree weather is dangerous.

service transmission warning on

I was also having the downshift acceleration issue. I'm not sure which gear ( probably around 3 or 4) it was in, but it was happening right as you slowed down to 20-21MPH. Downshifted and then accelerated while braking. Not the safest thing to happen!

Took our '15 Limited in last week to have the Trans flashed with the latest version to see if that would help. After several hours and several flashes later, they said they were keeping it and replacing the transmission. Apparently after it was flashed it started throwing codes and lights. Corporate told the dealer they will have to replace the trans.

Got the Jeep back from the service after a long wait of 15 days. they said they couldn't identify the problem initially with took almost a whole week and had to go for a full replacement.

I cannot believe I spend so much money and i get into trouble at mere 3700 kms itself.

Feedback after the the replacement:

The gear shifts are more smooth though I can feel when the dog clutch engages downshifting from 80-20 kph. I still see the rpm spike (around gear 3 or 4) but no more acceleration/ surge like before. overall the transmission could be smoother, god only know how much the life of this transmission will be. If only jeep could give a better product out. i wanted to keep this jeep for at least 10 years, not quite sure if i could afford a transmission change after the warranty period

Cherokee Limited 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,375 miles

Have had two times the vehicle transmission warning came on to "Service Transmission" with no response depressing the accelerator. At these two times the vehicle was at a full stop and the dash was full of warning lights for different things. When the transmission was shifted from Drive to Park, there was a loud and violent jerking by the transmission. This transmission has had it's software updated many times, which has not helped. Dealer tech was able to observe this condition and replaced the transmission valve body. After replacing the valve body and after driving about 50 miles on a interstate highway, the service transmission warning came on. Took the next exit and stopped at a traffic stoplight, the car would lunge and jerk violently trying to go. Shut the engine off and let the car reset itself. Will not drive the vehicle again and will ask Chrysler to supply a rental vehicle at their expense until they have replaced my vehicle.

This makes three times the vehicle has been in the shop for transmission problems. This transmission issue as far I am concerned is a major safety issue.
