stutters, then completely loses power while driving
this car was new to me in Mid-March, 2016. Initially started failing early July (see first complaint). Now two days in a row, stutters then completely loses power while driving. Known issue - recallable issue, in fact. My jeep was built just passed the cut off date for the recall for the computerized 9speed computerized transmission.

Ever since I brought the car home there has been something off with the transmission. First I attributed it to having a different car and was just somewhat hesitant about mentioning the issue. Mostly, at that time it happened infrequently and mostly at lower gears/speeds. As time went on issue was still random but started happening more frequently.

Almost from the minute I have purchased my vehicle I have had problems with my transmission. It has never work properly. It is very annoying having your car jerk almost every time you start to accelerate. It also grinds when you slow down and go over speed bumps. I have taken it to the shop once and they did not have a solution for it.
When I purchased the car dealers knew about this problem and yet the salesman was pushing this car saying how great it was. I feel like I was taken advantage of and I am very angry that it was sold to me knowing there were transmission problems.

The transition from first gear to second gear is never smooth; before the vehicle goes beyond 30 kmph, transmission slips and a strong jerk is felt. I took it to the service provider, they categorized it as manufacturing fault and replaced axles. But even then, problem persists. This is a my first brand new car and I was not hoping for any issue. I intend to change it very soon and then no more cars from Jeep.

My complaint starts not to long after I bought the Jeep. Long story short, I've had the Jeep back to the dealership several times for "updates" on the software. Finally after several updates the dealer determined that Chrysler was going to replace the tranny. This was going to fix the problem.. No such luck. I waited a couple weeks trying to give the dealer the benefit of the doubt but the tranny kept acting up.
My problem with this tranny is when I'm slowing down coming to a stop, if I don't come to a COMPLETE stop and give the Jeep gas again to take off, it will hesitate for 3-5 seconds. Then, when the gear decides to downshift like it should of already when I was stopping, I get whiplash. The ONLY way to control this from not happening is to COMPLETELY stop, no matter where you are, then go again. Now I realize that is the law, but it's not how a BRAND NEW Jeep should perform. I'm VERY disappointed in the Jeep. And if I could afford it, I'd trade it off. I'm 44 yrs old and have had several vehicles. None of which have had this tranny issue. The last thing I remember talking to the tech at the dealer, he told me that this is the new NORMAL for Chrysler Trannys. I find that unacceptable.

So this is very odd, sometimes going very slow the tranny will slip a little, then its fine but only does it every so often. Guess I will take it in at some point. This Jeep seems to be a bad design.

The vehicle hesitates when starting from a stop or accelerating from a turn or other slowing. When I add power the vehicle will lurch forward sometimes squealing the tires. This is particularly dangerous when turning left ahead of oncoming traffic. The vehicle hesitates while accelerating to pass or merge into highway traffic. The transmission software has been updated but the problem was made worse.
The transmission has been replaced by Jeep/Chrysler but the problem remains. The Chrysler service representative told me that the vehicle is designed to not shift into first gear unless it comes to a complete stop. This causes the vehicle to "bog down" when coming out of a turn.
This is very troubling when turning left ahead of oncoming traffic. The natural reaction is to add power. This causes the transmission to shift into first gear and lurch the vehicle forward. I've made a complaint thru the Chrysler Customer Care Center. After another visit to the dealership I was told "the vehicle is performing as designed." If that is the case then why did they replace the transmission? This vehicle is not safe to drive.
I just made a complaint on the NHTSA website https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/. I suggest that other readers do also and force Jeep/Chrysler to recall this transmission.

I just got rid of a lemon (Buick LeSabre) and now, it seems I've got another problem with a car! This car is only 4 months old and already there is a transmission problem!! Dealer says they will fix it - they had it a couple of weeks ago and supposedly fixed it, but now it still lurches forward when the brakes are applied, so I don't think it's fixed!! This is very frustrating! I now have to take the car back to the dealer/service department again - maybe this time they will fix it!! Now, I'm getting hacked-off!

6/30/15
Took back to Jeff Wyler
Dropped off 6/30/15 11:30 AM
Jason said that they loaded another new software patch for the transmission and it seemed to shift OK.
Picked UP 7/3/15 6:00 PM
7/6/15 Transmission seems to be a little worse now, it doesn’t respond immediately when placed in to drive and sometimes does not shift smoothly. It RPM goes up and accelerates slightly, while light braking and attempting to slow down or stop. On acceleration, it hesitates then takes off more rapidly then you are attempting to. All these are not consistent and only occur occasionally, and most times do not occur at all.

Brought vehicle in on 3rd issue with trans shutter at 17MPH. Now I'm told its an axle issue and Jeep does not have any axles to replace mine at this time. Some regional tech is coming to look at my vehicle at the dealership. Plenty of BS on the axle, how can that cause a trans shutter at 17MPH. Waiting to here the results of this issue as soon as they get done looking my vehicle. Will update
Update from Aug 16, 2015: They final found the problem apparently it was an axle issue. At 17 MPH there was a shutter in the trans. A regional tech came to the dealership and it was diagnosed new axles were installed and it has cured the shutter issue. Hard to believe these axles would cause the problem but I checked the axles before and after and they are different, much thicker. They gave me a free 7 year 100,000 mile warranty for free for all the B.S. I went through.

Second report of trans shutter at 17MPH brought vehicle in for software updates. Updates complete problem still exists. Requesting procedure to begin dealer buy back

I bought a BRAND NEW Jeep Cherokee at the end of March. At the end of June with less than 3,500 miles on it, I watched it towed away because the transmission died. Unreal. They say it was a defective transmission with clutches 4 and 6 defective and clutch B defective. Talk about a lemon.

I am beyond tired of owning this Jeep Cherokee. After two months of fighting with my Chrysler Case Manager and 5 trips to the service department, I was told that the vehicle is driving as designed.
All of the Cherokees are known for rough shifting. They cannot do anything about the design of the vehicle. Its not a safety defect. Chrysler literally told me "just drive it". I was floored. They admitted numerous times that there are issues with the transmission shifting properly and yet I am told to "just drive it"
They also have screwed me on the lemon law because every time it was brought in for a service, they would do an "update" which isn't considered a service. Thanks for that. So here I sit with a brand new car with 3500 miles on it and I don't dare drive it any distance because I am afraid it will break down again or lunge me into traffic like its done in the past. But that's not a safety defect in Chryslers eyes. They are taking peoples money and giving them defective cars.
My car still hesitates upon acceleration from a stop, and shifting rough from 1-2 & 2-3. I have NO options at this point. I can't trade it in because of depreciation. I have no money to put down. The dealership won't even help me. I hope Chrysler goes under. Thanks for sticking me with a $30,000 piece of sh*t.

On Christmas Eve we were driving on the freeway and the transmission started shifting in and out of gear, then the service transmission lite came on. We went to get off the freeway, came to a stop and went to take off, and the car seemed to be stuck in high gear causing transmission to slip. got to a safe place to stop, shut car off and back on and it seemed to work normal. later that night it did the same thing when returned home. 12/26/14 took to dealer they had the car for 8 days and said it was fixed, picked car up 1/2/15 at 5:30 pm drove to get gas, then headed home, before we made it home the same thing happened at an intersection, almost got hit, shut car off then back on and got home, returned car to dealer Saturday 1/31/15. We'll we will know see what happens. note this problem is dangerous!!! Wish us Luck
Update from Jan 4, 2015: Note this complaint I'd interrelated with all the other complaints that you have for this vehicle, our car has all of the same symptoms as all of the previous complaints.

Okay repair trip #5. Transmission slips in and out of gear, shifts hard from 1 to 2 gears, and slips out of 3 or 4 gear at times and then shifts up again like you are on a roller coaster going through the dips. They had a tech drive it around and he felt the problem, but because none of the diagnostic tools could detect a problem the engineers said it would improve after I drove it more. They set the transmission fluid level to 14 mm at 122 degrees. Waiting to see if problem is still present. Even if the problem is finally gone my trade-in value is zilch so I will lose a lot of money, not to mention the lack of confidence in the vehicle.
