When I start my car, service shifter comes on and all my lights on the panel. I have to turn my car off, open my door to reset. It takes a few tries for the car to reset. Also, my car bumps forward while driving. Happens frequently. I have taken this in several times to the dealership by this never fixes the issue. This has been an issue since I bought the car in December of 2016. Another issue is that my car just dies while I am driving. Battery is fine. After several attempts and pushing the gas pedal down, the car will start again after resting for 10minutes. Dealership always says its the oil, but I have 2 months still to go for oil change and over 2,000 miles til my next change. Oil life is over 50%. everytime I take it in for this it works for a few months and then the issue happens again.

This happens every day while driving. I will be driving (no certain speed) but I will hear a "ding" & I look at my screen & it says "service shifter" and all my lights light up on my gear shifter. My Jeep tends to have hard shifting once this occurs. I then have to stop, turn my car off and turn it back on. (the pictures I'm attaching are from last week. However, this has been happening for awhile)

I keep getting a service shifter light on dash after driving 30 some miles. I turn the car off and then back on and it goes away. I will also get a no stop start available every other time I start my car. I have taken it to my mechanic but he can not find anything in the car log about the problems I am having. I have read that other Jeep owners have had the same problem but it seems there was no real solution.

2017 Jeep trailhawk. Bought new. Car began randomly displays "service shifter" message on dash just after warranty expired at 36K miles. Lights up gear shifter lights as well. Comes and goes. Once on won't go away unless car is shut off. Cant see speed or other displays. Happens while in motion or at stop lights, on Suburban streets. Any weather. Any speed. May be weeks before it comes on, or days or even hours. When you shut off car sometimes it goes away, sometimes it doesn't. Dodge Jeep dealer didn't know what I was talking about.

Cherokee 4-cyl

  • 50,000 miles
My service shifter light has came up 3 separate times. The last time it came on, my Jeep took itself from drive to park while I was in motion, locking up my tires and steering wheel. I could not get my park back into drive, and it caused me to slide off the road. It has happened on 3 separate occasions. I have also had my bluetooth and my radio malfunctioning. It changes stations and volume by itself, switches between am and fm and changes volume randomly. My U connect bluetooth stopped working entirely. Consumer stated while driving vehicle shifted from drive to park and the tires had locked up. Incident happened again Friday March 13th. While driving service shifter light came on. Vehicle was towed to a local dealer and repaired.

I purchased my Jeep back in April 2019 and I have been an issue with the gear shift almost every single month to current. My car will literally shut off in the middle of the road and will read "service shift gear". I have to put the car in park and turn it off, wait a couple of minutes for it to crank back up and the the message goes away. This is extremely dangerous because recently this happened to me while driving down the highway! I do not understand why this is not a recall and I have looked this issue up and there are several other people who are experiencing this same problem. I have not been able to get help from the dealerships. Nothing specifically happens when the car shuts off it will just do it randomly.

While driving I got a 'service shifter ' message and all the lights on my shifter were lit up. I pulled over turned the car off and it went away. It happend again after my oil change at the dealership. It goes away after I restart the car but seems to be a safety problem but the dealership didn't think so. No message or lights after I restart but it has happened more than once.

The service shifter warning has come on multiple times over the past year. We have taken it to the dealer and have been told they can not find anything wrong. This has happened while driving at random speeds and driving conditions. It is now happening every time the Jeep is driven, sometimes before we even get to the end of the driveway.

  • 40,000 miles
2017 Jeep Cherokee service shifter light started coming on randomly at 28,000 miles. Usually turning off the car and cranking it back up would make the service shifter light go away. Now after only owning the car for 2 years it is starting to shift out of gear and the service shifter light stays on most of the time. Sometimes driving down the road and the shifter light will pop on out of nowhere. In the two years I've owned it I've only put 20,000 miles on it. Left the dealership today to find out this part is not covered in the powertrain warranty. I've gotten one quote for $800 to replace the shifter bezel and wiring harness. This is a 2017 with only 40,000 miles. All over the internet Jeep owners tell of an identical story with their Jeep. Jeep needs to own up to this being a faulty part. I should not have to spend this much money to fix a faulty part. Will never buy a Jeep again

Driving down the rd service shifter light comes on, then pull over put car in park then the car just turns off in the middle of the rd. You have to crank and crank to get it started back while in the middle of the rd. I almost got run over on the highway where the speed limit is 65. I'm scared to drive my car for the fear of causing a accident and getting killed. I have a 8 year old daughter that O Transport daily. This is a safety issue and lots of others are having this problem when I googled what my car is doing.

Have owned my 2017 granite Jeep Cherokee latitude 3.2L V6 SUV since August 2017. Several times a year am instructed by on screen message to return to park and then shift to drive again. On 01/24/20, with 24,000 miles, when I started the car a service shifter message come up on my screen. It highlighted all my gear lights red and the screen was locked to service shifter. I turned the car off, waited a few seconds and the car started normally. However, in searching for the issue online found that over a hundred Jeep owners had a similar experience. SUV recall T52: Reprogram transmission control module was resolved @ roseville Jeep 05/01/18. Several Jeep owners said that the issue recurred even after their shifter was replaced. Please escalate this issue to a recall and investigate what must be done to resolve this issue so that we are not charged for an issue the manufacturer has not been able to rectify.

This is the 2nd time my "service shifter" has come on the screen and the prnd lights all turned red. The car was driving normal and I was in a parking lot doing about 15mph. The 1st time I had just come to a red light just after leaving my home which I quickly returned. I have read about people having this issue and the car suddenly shutting down. It's very scary when this comes on.
