Service shifter light constantly comes on. Told nothing is wrong other than can be replaced. Not covered under warranty. Seems to be a common occurrence with the vehicles and should be a recall.

While driving home from work on 5-7-19 I heard a ding & a the message service shifter came up on my dash & the red lights next to the gear shift all lit up. I was moving at the time & when I reached a stop light I put vehicle in park then back to drive but nothing changed. Took it directly to the dealership & they said they'd only heard of this happening to a few vehicles but I have just found tons of complaints for the same issue. Ordering parts for it but I'm afraid to drive it & was told it would take a couple of days to get the parts followed by them calling me to set up a time to bring it in for repair. This is a 2017 with a little over 27K miles. I shouldn't have to be doing this yet or ever.

I have had my Jeep Cherokee for 3 years and my vehicle has been jerking the whole time I had the vehicle. Finally today, a service error came up. It says service shifter while the vehicle was in motion on the highway and city streets. It felt like my vehicle was about to turn off. It was jerking very badly and I was concerned for my toddler son safety as well as my own safety. I been doing some research and several people are having the same issue as myself..

It began with the check engine light staying on even after oil changes, then when I would turn on the ignition key it would make a tap tap sound as though it didnt have any power, or while I would be at a complete stop while at a light it would sound as though the Jeep was losing power and was going to turn off, then it did turn off on me when the light turned green. I had the battery checked by a friend he said it was reading that it has power and that the alternator is good also, then finally it left me stranded at wt work, it wouldn't turn on. I have no one to help me so I took a chance and asked a stranger to please check my car, he gave me a boost, it took 2 min to get my Jeep going again..this morning at 4:30 am I wasnt able to go to work my Jeep wouldn't turn on..so my neighbor took my to auto parts to buy a new battery, my Jeep is 2 years old..I'm a single 52 year old female, I cant afford to be stranded or unable to get to work.

While driving my 2017 Jeep Cherokee it will randomly have a warning for @service shifter' on the dash and all lights on the left of the gear shift will be red for prnd +\- (several times a week so I have to pull over shut off the car and wait and turn it back on). When searching the web there were several forums with the same thing in other Jeep models and a lot of the Cherokee and were all having problems with the dealers wanting to fix it correctly. This is very dangerous as it means the car can not tell what gear it is in. Lord forbid it throw its self in park while going 70 on the interstate. This needs immediate attention.

3/15/2019 at 12:15 I was driving back to work after lunch and my center display panel suddenly change from displaying mph to a message that read "service shifter". when I looked at my gear shift all lights were lit instead of just D. I immediately returned home (I was a mile away) and put the car into park. The message remained on my center console and lights remained lit. I turned off/on the vehicle with same results. I put vehicle into garage and called rothrock motors to schedule an appointment. Will drop vehicle of 3/16/19 but no eta on return since they cannot tell me what the issue is until they look at it. However, I've found hundreds of complaints in the past 2 years after a very quick google search with same issue for Jeep, not just my model.

Service shifter appears on dash while driving and all lights on shifter illuminate. This has occurred twice-- once when starting the vehicle from being parked for several hours and again once the car was driving at about 35-40mph. Each time I cut the car off and restarted the vehicle and the lights disappeared.

While the key is in the ignition and you're pressing the break, when you are pressing the button to move the shift there is a clicking noise that comes from the ignition where the key is. It has been to the dealership for this 3 times because I've had a rental car 3 times. They ordered some part, replaced something and the noise was still there. That's when the technician says there's nothing he can do about it and that it's probably normal but when we got into a different Jeep, same make and model the noise wasn't there so that's not true

I was driving and the following happened: Jeep completely died while driving, battery light illuminated & the screen displayed "place in P, then select gear", I attempted it but I had no power, no ability to steer or brake. I was also broken down in on coming traffic and wasn't able to move. I had to put in neutral and push my Jeep out of the middle of the hwy. I'm 26 and 5'4. I'm scared for my life. I cried all the way to work. All I could see was getting impaled by a driver, getting killed and risking losing my 2 year old son! I'm not happy, I'm scared for my life and I have no idea what to do or where to turn! the dealership isn't answering my calls or responding to any messages! consumer stated problem was caused by piston rings were faulty.

Vehicle has just shut off approx 10 times in the last 2 weeks. Sometimes its 'dings' while driving normal and does not stall but most of the time its stalls as driving. Either ive just pulled out onto a road or made a turn. The car will just shut off and says to put in correct gear. The car will not turn over and restart for approx 10 minutes. Very very dangerous!!!!!

I was taking my car out of park when I noticed a really loud clicking noise coming from the shifter. I took it back to the dealership and I was told that the shifter would be replaced. When I picked my truck up the noise was even louder, and this time I had an error message on my dash board that read "service shifter". at that time the dealership had already replaced the shifter. After they ran more test and attempted to fix it a total of 10 times, I am still having the same issue, where the error message says "service shifter" and the clicking sound is very loud. After speaking with the service manager at the dealership, he informed me that the shifter was just recently replaced once again and that the other attempts to replace the shifter were a result of the replacement shifters being "bad' (defected). Chrysler customer service has been notified of every occasion that my vehicle has been serviced for this issue, and they have even escalated this matter to their corporate level technicians known as "star". I was told by customer service that star was unsure of the issue upon them being contacted in reference to this issue. I have yet to see an active recall on this part, but out of the year and 8 months that I have owned this truck, I have spent approximately a year and 4 months taking it to the dealership to be serviced for the shifter.

When I got in my car yesterday morning, my drivers seat was all the way back. I am the only one who drives it - it was odd that it was moved. Nevertheless, I needed it to go back into position so I could drive it. The controls weren't really working so it took a bit to get it to move forward. I noted it to mention to the dealer when I take it in for an oil change this weekend. I drove to work, uneventfully. As I left work, and got into my Jeep, the seat was fine. Yay! I headed home. I was pouring rain. As I took a right, heard the car go "ding" saw the battery light come on and then the Jeep turned off. I was driving and my car just turned off. This is the second time it has happened to me. The last time was January 2018 as I was entering I95. I turned left and heard the "ding" and off the Jeep went. I had to coast to the side of the road. Dangerous! I got towed to the local Jeep dealer by aaa and left the car for diagnostic testing. The results, according to the dealer, was that my oil was low. The Cherokee turns off the car to preserve the engine. Even if you are driving the car on the highway. Just. Turns. Off. First of all, that should not happen no matter what. The human in the car is what should be preserved, not the car itself. No car should ever just turn off. Second of all, there was no indication on the dash or on the uconnect app that I was low on oil. And secondly, I was only a 300 miles over the mileage on the oil sticker on my windshield. I have had a lot of cars in my life and even the really old cars would indicate if the oil was low. This is a brand new car. Why would I think the dealership would put mileage on the oil change sticker that was wrong" why would I even think that I would need to check my oil levels on a new car? and one more thing - Jeep are built tough. So why would the engine be that sensitive" so angry.

My 2017 Jeep wouldn't start on September 22,23 2018 while parked in driveway. It made a sound like the battery was dead and didn't have enough juice to start. After attempting to start multiple times and trying to turn off radio and headlight. It finally turned over, but after returning home from running errands, the following morning on the 23rd it wouldn't not start until I received a jump. There was a P code on the dashboard of car. Ive also experience issue with it not wanting to excellerate even with excessive amount of pressure to the gas peddle.
