Cherokee

  • 17,600 miles
I just purchased this vehicle 3 days ago with 17,600 miles., I have been experiencing the vehicle cut off when at a stopped position even if the gears are in drive. Today I attempted to turn on the vehicle but showed no sign of power, I waitied and tried again. Once I got the vehicle to run the check engine light came on. I do know there was a recall for this exact same issue and my vehicle seems to not have been repaired.

Engine stalled as I was accelerating when making a turn. Warning on the dash said that the vehicle cannot be shifted while moving, but I hadn't touched the shifter- it was locked in drive. This is the second occurrence of this type of engine stall in 4 months. The first time I only had 1200 miles on the car, this time 3400 miles. When engine quit I lost power steering. Engine restarted ok. The consumer stated the message on the dashboard display that the car can't shift to park while it's moving and engine has stall, hadn't touched the shift lever.

When driving my car, the car hesitates as I turn corners, the car shakes when you start it up and most importantly the car cut off while I was driving along a busy street. I was in rush hour traffic and was almost rear ended because of it. This same issue happened in either October or November. I made an appointment, I spoke to the person at the dealership and they told me I probably needed an oil change. I googled the vehicle and found there was a recall that would cause the same problems I was having. I presented to the dealer they said they didn't know about it but it was supposedly resolved. Almost one year later I'm having the same issue. It's dangerous. I spoke with the dealership and they said the engine was designed to cut off to protect the engine if the oil is low. The engine in these cars are a 2.4 tiger shark engine. The dealer replaced it with a 2.4 multi-air engine, power the dealer this should solve the problem of the engine burning an an excessive amount of oil. Both 2.4 engines are designed to shut off if there is a low amount of oil. That is a safety issue that a car would shut off in the middle of driving to protect itself but that doesn't protect the driver/passengers it actually puts them in harms way.

Twice this week my car has suddenly died while driving it and would not start back up, battery light comes on. I have had to wait before trying to start again and got it started by pushing the gas down while turning the key. Luckily I have been on my dirt driveway both times. I'd be terrified if this happened on a busy highway, I'm getting more and more disappointed with this vehicle.

While driving this morning at 70 mph my 2019 Jeep Cherokee 2.0 turbo lost all power, power steering and power brakes. I fought to pull it off the road. Right when it stalled out the message center stated "auto start/stop not available" and the auto start/stop light illuminated along with the battery light. The 'd' drive indicator on the dash was blinking. Upon stopping and placing the vehicle in park, it turned over but would not start. I placed the vehicle in neutral, and nothing. The car acted as if it were in auto stop as the door chime dinged when the door was open and headlights were off (push button start). Locking the vehicle left the dash lit up like it was running. Chrysler had it towed to the local dealership where it is waiting to be looked at. Had my wife been driving this when it happened she might not have been able to pull to the side of the road with no power steering or brake assist.

This has happened on two occasions once on the highway in traffic and yesterday 8/28/19. Both times while the car was in drive sitting in traffic the car would stop and the parking brake will engage and after following the instructions on the dash the brake will not cut off. Both times I had to put my car in park in the middle of traffic to turn it completely off and restart it. I bought this car last October 12th, this has been a known issue with Chrysler per your site since October 19th of last year. It states Chrysler was supposed to reach out to purchasers regarding this issue and now almost a year later I have heard nothing. It's completely unacceptable and I risk my life everyday I step foot in this car.

Takata recall this morning 8/26/19 we were driving up a hill at a light in rush hour traffic and the car just stopped and completely cut off while still in drive. We attempted to turn the car back on, but the only thing working were the brakes. Realizing it had stalled, we attempted repeatedly for about 5 mins and were able to turn the car back on. The only light that flashed was the battery light. Dealership said there is no recall and wants $80 for the diagnostic test. Took it elsewhere and no codes came back. Problem still remains an issue.

Vehicle has had two episodes of shutting down while driving. I had no brakes or steering and nearly went through a stop sign in to traffic.I could not find the repair bill for the first episode. Car had to be towed once. The other time I was able to get it restarted. Engine idles rough, lurches forward when taking foot off the brake, and occasionally has loud engine noise when idling. When acclerating in this vehicle it rattles. Vehicle speeds up when going down hills with cruise control and then engine has a high reving sound to the point it sounds like its in neutral or is going to explode. Also had issues with the stop start light coming on as malfunctioning and the engine light.

"takata recall" my 2019 Jeep Cherokee (latitude plus, fwd) always having issues. Vehicle engine shuts off when driving. This vehicle is not safe to drive, having to drive across amtrak tracks to get to work is just not safe, when this happens the battery light turns on, not to mention the rotaries sound of a crunch when driving. How many oil changes do this car really need in 2 months, driving 5 miles times 5 day to and from work? I always have at least 2,000 miles left before oil change is needed.

2019 Jeep Cherokee latitude stalls while the vehicle is in drive. The entire vehicle shuts down, the battery light displays, and the vehicle must be stopped, put in park, and restarted. This issue was noted by a recall earlier this year by Jeep, but service for the recall was ineffective and issue remains. Both experiences were while the car was in motion (driving) at approximately 35 miles per hour both on low grade inclines. The first experience was with less than 1,000 miles on the vehicle and the 2nd experience was at approximately 35,000 miles. Also, the speed control of the vehicle is inconsistent with both lurching at take off and slow acceleration. Consumer stated the Jeep was taken into the dealership for the final leg of the oil consumption test. Upon speaking with the dealership, they stated that, in the last week, Jeep acknowledged an engine oil consumption issue with this make and model. We were further told that a new engine will be ordered for the Jeep but because of the mass amount needed, it is a 2-3 month wait. In the wait time, we have been instructed to check and purchase oil for the Jeep every 2-3 weeks or as needed.

The engine shuts off without warning when oil level runs low. However, there is no indicator showing oi level is low. Car was driven just 3500 miles from date of purchase and engine has a confirmed oil consumption issue. This oil consumption issue is a known defect and engine is designed to shut off automatically without warning while the car is in motion!

Cherokee

  • 2,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. While driving approximately 50-60 mph, the vehicle lost power and the check engine warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. The vehicle was taken to island auto group (located at 1580 hylan blvd, staten island, NY 10305, (718) 979-0934) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code on the first visit. The second time the vehicle was brought in the contact was informed that the failure may be due to a defective oil pump, but no repairs were made. On the third visit, the oil pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred. On the fourth visit, the contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18V344000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
