All 4 handles are broken!! this is ridiculous, broke just by simply opening- these all happened at four different times- we can hardly get out- or have to roll the window down to open the door from the outside. The handles are almost impossible to open without a struggle. I am concerned for the safety of my family that in case of an emergency we will not be able to open the doors to get out. Please recall door handles.

If the door handles will not open do to the fact that they are broken, cracked, and damaged just from every day use this is a major safety issue, and defect on the auto maker. My 2006 Jeep Commander door handles started to crack,and then the door handles from drivers side and passenger side happened around the same time in the summer. The handles are almost impossible to open without a struggle. I am concerned for the safety of my family that in case of an emergency we will not be able to open the doors to get out. Please recall door handles.

I bought the car in October 2015 in a matter of a day the door handle broke and will cost over $500 to fix. Doesn't always open. What happens if I have a accident and can't get out? I have 3 children, one is a toddle.r I'm afraid the door handles in the rest of my Commander will break as well. As much as people pay for these vehicles you would think Jeep should be able to make a door handle that's almost as sturdy as their vehicles say they are, instead it's a overly expensive piece of crap. I will never buy another Jeep in my life. I bought this vehicle thinking great rating from Jeep and here I have a overly priced piece of plastic with a broke ass door handle that broke.

Purchased vehicle used with 89k. One door handle broke and the remaining three were ready to crumble. Proactively replaced all four with aftermarket handles made by Dorman. Easy job, requires a flat head screw driver to remove door panel, a phillips screw driver to remove door panel screws and an electric drill to use supplied bit to drill out OE door handle plastic rivets. Total cost, a few hours and about $300.

My driver door handle broke off as well as the second row passenger side door handle. I was told by the dealer that it would cost me approximately $900 each because they have to replace the entire door panel.
That is, they can not just replace the door handle because it is made connected to the entire door panel.

The driver's side door handle crumbled in my hand one day when I tried to open the door. This was after normal wear and tear, nothing extreme here! Called dealer who told us it would be $1500.00 to fix, as the whole door panel would have to be replaced. What?? Found a handle on eBay and had to have my husband fix it. As I see this is a common problem there should be a recall! Waiting tor the day when my kids are trying to get out and the other door handles crumble too.

First interior door handle broke around 40,000 miles, two others have broken since. Hay! I have one left. This should be a recall, plastic is cheaper than any kids toy. Dealer requires complete door panel replacement to fix., That's is dumb. I can buy after market kits but that is $150.00. Handles just should not disintegrate like this. Some times it is hard to get out of car, my wife needed my help to open door from outside.
This problem is very dangerous if for any reason you need to get out fast. Yes I am going to buy replacements!

I just bought this 2006 jeep commander and already it has issues. The rear passenger door handle is broken and cost 500.00 just for the part plus labor. This should be a recall why isn't it? it is a safety hazard for my children and my mother. this is suppose to be the 5th safest car in the country but how can that be if you can't get out of the car on your own.

O.K. Interior handle of my Jeep Commander broke way too easy. I had my door open on a windy day while sitting in the driver seat, one leg on the ground, one in the car. The wind blew the door towards me so I just moved my knee toward the door to keep it from slamming into my shin. My knee ended up exactly where the door handle is and I did keep the door from hitting my shin, but the handle broke off and went inside the door panel. Mind you, this has happened to me before in other vehicles on windy days and they never broke.
I have been in Many, Many cars over the years as I worked as a Valet for 5 years at one point and I can tell you that this handle broke WAY TOO EASILY. As you can tell since it seems to be the #1 complaint here. Also the rear one broke when I loaded something in the back and it hit it while I shut the door. 2 out of 4 interior handles broken - very very poor design. SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM, it is also a safety concern because a few times I tried to get the handle to "seat" in it's appropriate position so that it is USEABLE, and the door opened up. Also the handle will sometimes straddle in a weird position (after you get in the car and shut the door) and you won't notice but, that weird position somehow has kept the door from closing properly. You will notice it, the "ding" sound goes off on a turn when the centrifugal force of a turn pushes the door to become nearly open.

The handles hit the plastic bevels and crack them. This has happened to both back door handles (yep, in a family car where the kids sit.) This is a friggin JEEP! Little plastic pieces shouldn't break!

The door handles are really bad inside and out. but the inside ones are broke, now the driver door will not lock but if it does lock while driving it will get stuck and not open. If I got into a emergency situation I would die because I wouldn't be able to get out. Jeep should recall this. THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS

Door handles on the the drivers side and passenger side have cheap plastic behind the handle and the plastic breaks leaving the the door handle in a limp mode of operation. Very Dangerous for a child in the back seat also.

I bought this Jeep Commander with hopes of having a decent reliable vehicle for my family. It was in great shape, and the price was right. The first week I had it, the front interior passenger door handle broke. The handle works, but the plastic(cheap plastic) that holds the handle in place broke right out. Now you have to reach into the door to pull the handle out to open the door. REAL PAIN IN THE ASS!@

I am the original owner of this 2006 JEEP COMMANDER and just recently the door handles to open and get out of our car is very difficult. In case of a wreck or fire, I feel our life will be put in a DANGEROUS situation by not being able to get out by opening the doors.
I feel this problem should be a RECALL and be fixed by CHRYSLER, ASAP, due to the HIGH EXPENSE. We the owners would have to REPLACE the WHOLE DOOR PANEL just to fix the handle and be SAFE.

Never had the door handle break in any other make of car I have owned. Tried Jeep for the first time in my life and was really disappointed with the door handle. Got a quote for $800 to replace because the entire door panel must be replaced. This is bull! When I noticed the broken door handle was after I picked up my jeep from being serviced at the dealership. After they drove my car around for me, the mechanic opened and then closed the door for me after I got in. I didn't notice the inner handle. However, the mechanic was acting strange. Got home and grabbed a broken handle to get out of the car. Took my car back to the dealership where repairs had been made and they said it's not their problem. Well, I wasn't shocked they wouldn't take responsibility. A__ H___s! Yah, they are all about the customer and kissing your butt until you have a complaint. If this was just my jeep then I guess it's my problem. However, this is a common problem with the jeep door handle. Jeep defect!!! They should make good on the problem. You had better believe I won't be buying another jeep. I'm just stuck with this vehicle until I can find my way out financially :-(

I have done research and found that this was such a flaw in the 06 and 07 that they redesigned it for 08. Hoping for a recall as this is a very serious safety issue if you are unable to exit your car in an emergency

I need this driver side door handle fixed immediately. It just broke off one day on my wife and she would have to roll the window down to open the door. My father in law bought her a window breaker in case of an emergency. I tried to fix the door handle myself but I’m no mechanic and can’t afford one.
