power window motor failed, won't stay up

Need to buy a six pack of window regulators. Have changed the drivers twice. Now the passenger has gone. Plastic is not a good material when under tension. I can do this myself but anyone not mechanical inclined will spend a couple of hundred dollars each time. The part cost around $50 Canadian. If this happens in the middle of winter then you freeze and you can't lock your Jeep. Maybe Jeep should ship their cars with a broom handle to keep their dropping windows up. Oh and YES I would never buy another Jeep.

I have had 2 windows crap out on me in the same year about 2 months apart. One happened at a car wash and my interior got soaking wet. I hate this Jeep. It is always having some kind of problem. Tired of dumping money into it.

READING ABOUT other Jeep window problems have very little solutions. Simple fix for me was to spend $50 usd on e-bay for a new motor and regulator for my window. My window just drop, but i can hear the motor run, so I thought that the window was off the track. I read that the cheap plastic clips that held the window in place could be broken. Since I had to take of e panel to find the problem, it made more sense to just buy a part and replace the whole assembly for under fifty bucks than to rig up a solution to have my windows roll up and down. Using u-tube I found detail instructions to remove and replace the item and my windows work. Just the time I had to waste on this was the problem and makes a Jeep not reliable. Then again, with any power windows, there will be a problem. If we go back to manual windows, most likely the window fell off the tracks. With power windows I have had a Cadillac, Chevy Mark III van and Toyota Corolla that had problems with my power windows, so it is not only Jeep Cherokees.

Ask me to have a manual window is going back to stone age, but they work forever. I like the convenience of having my windows roll up and down automatically so I will have to put up with replacing what ever break downs we have with the window. I hope that these complaints find the way to corporate headquarters to make a better motor and regulators for car windows, or use better parts instead of cheap plastics. There is always room for improvements. Car companies like Toyota has made the commitment and made a most reliable car that my family drives. I still like my Jeep regardless, but I had the fuel consumption and will be looking for another car one day. Cheers Tommy x

I know it says to report each problem separately but this is the same problem with 3 different windows since I have had the car. First the driver side front window went in 2006. I had it fixed. Then the passenger side front window went. The latest is the driver side back window. I have not yet had the last to fixed because at $500 a pop it is quite expensive.

I wonder why they never had a recall for this issue?

Again this type of problem is placing my daughter in bad situations. She cannot close the window to protect herself from vandals and she could not leave the car in this condition in this section of town. Really, really dangerous.

I have owned several Jeep Grand Cherokees (all given to me fortunately). I have had nothing but problems with all 3. I hate Jeep. I will never buy a Jeep. I have replaced window regulators no less than 4 times. I have never heard of anyone having to do this in any other vehicle, only Jeeps.

I have had this Jeep since 2002 and on 2 separate windows the motor has failed a total of 4 times. I had the motor replaced 3 times and on the 4th time I just put a screw in it to hold up the window. It is too expensive to keep replacing the motor when Jeep has a problem with these motors.

The plastic piece on the window lift mechanism that holds the cable is a piece of CRAP. The cable pulls through the top of the plastic retainer and the only solution till now was to buy a whole new window regulator assembly. I designed an aluminum block to replace the plastic retainer and have had no problem since. Best part is, It only cost about 20 bucks. If you buy a new regulator assembly, guess what, its gonna break again. If you want one of these aluminum replacement parts let me know. steve banks at banks machine dot com

My window went down thru drive thru a day before Christmas, and then wouldn't go back up. Well I live in Canada and the temperature was -15 C or 5 Ft. So there was no option for me I had to get it repaired immediately. Well $700.00 later, and the next day it wouldn't close again, and the dealer then again fixed it. How many levels of bad is this. If Jeep reads this I have had three of your Grand Cherokees now, and this last model is making me very fearful of buying another one.

I had the same problem as others did. My drivers side rear window just stopped working. Took it all apart to see that the cable had chewed up the cheap plastic. Went on ebay and got a new window regulator for less than $50 and put it in myself. I refuse to pay a garage to do something that I think I can do myself!!!!

We just bought this Jeep 3 months ago at the dealership. The rear drivers side window rolled down as it should, then never went back up! We can hear the window motor running. It would cost over $400 at the dealership to fix, but we are buying the part at the auto salvage for $90.00 and installing our self. We are also disputing it with Jeep for a reimbursement, We were told this is a common problem with this vehicle.

THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD HAVE BEEN ENDLESS. WE RIGGED IT UP BECAUSE THE MECHANIC SAID IT WOULD COST $380 TO FIX, AND I AM UNEMPLOYED SO I DO NOT HAVE FUNDS LIKE THAT TO FIX MY WINDOW. I ALSO CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS NOT HAD A RECALL, BAD ECONOMY OR NOT... COME ON... WE REMOVED THE DOOR PANEL PLACED A PLASTIC HANGER AND ZIP TIES TO KEEP THE WINDOW FROM FALLING DOWN IN THE DOOR, BUT IT STILL FALLS AN INCH OR TWO. I HAVE TO USE A HUGE SUCTION CUP ON THE INSIDE TO KEEP IT FROM FALLING DOWN AN INCH, BUT I CAN NOT HEAR MY DAUGHTER TALK TO ME FROM THE BACK DUE TO THE ROAR OF THE SLIGHTLY OPEN WINDOW. APPARENTLY THIS IS THE 4TH TIME A WINDOW HAS FALLEN ON THIS CAR, PER PREVIOUS OWNER.

Drivers side window suddenly wouldn't roll up. Tried to correct the problem by taking the door panel off. Could hear the motor, but it was if the window was off track. Took the jeep in to dealership and the window regulator was replaced. Free, under warranty. Friends jeep had the same problem on passenger side. It wasn't covered. It was a $300 fix.
