Two years ago I traded in my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan after the TIPM was replaced 3 separate times within one year. Imagine my extreme disappointment as I sit here and learn the exact same issue is happening with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee!! When I spoke to the dealer and they ask me what the problem is and I explained the car will crank but not turn over, they said it is not covered under warranty. (Based on my current mileage and the powertrain does not cover this issue).

I can honestly say I have purchased my last Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicle. I am so done with this issue. I join the ranks of unsuspecting hard-working people making a costly vehicle payment and am left to rent a vehicle with no compensation in sight. It disgusts me that Chrysler could allow this to continue

I just bought this vehicle and feel like such a sucker. How did I not find out about this!!! Went out to the car the day after Thanksgiving and it didn't start one week into owning it. The push button start just kept running and running but the engine never turned over. Then after a few tries, the remote start worked. A day later everything seemed fine, then today it happened again. This should be a recall or class action settlement if I ever saw one. At best it seems like a $300 repair doing everything yourself and at worst it could be $1,300 to $1,500 replacement and a month long wait for a part on back order???

The reason I got rid of my last truck was the starter, but that was an MDX with close to 200,000 miles on it!!!! You just don't expect stuff like this to happen at 50,000 miles and 2 years. I had a funny feeling about that remote start ...don't know why it's such a desirable feature. Let me turn the fricken' key if you can't design a flawless system that does it automatically. TIPM, what a joke!

I may bring this car back to the dealer and get something else. It's a shame because I really did like alot of the features and was sort of okay with spending more on gas because I liked the V8 Hemi. Now I feel like I bought a lemon.

I have wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a long time so in February 2012 I saw a used 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee on the lot of a Chevrolet dealer so I had to stop & look at it. It was just want I wanted had all the "bells & whistles" I needed including the color (silver) it had 30,000 miles on it at the time. I purchased it the next day, the dealer sold me an extended warranty that was suppose to "kick in" when the original warranty ran out. In August 2012 I had to have the fuel bar replaced & this was covered under the original warranty so I had no expense for this. In 2013 when I would start to crank the car it would continue to try to start, after several tries it would crank, took it to the Jeep dealer & they could not get it to duplicate the problem. Then last week in the evening I started to leave & it would not crank, after serveral tries it did crank, a friend followed me home to make sure I got there ok. The next morning when I started to leave home for work it would not crank. Finally got it started carried it to the Jeep dealer & they said it was the TIMP I had 49,109 miles at this time & it was NOT covered under my warranty!!!! & they had to keep it a couple of days. I am a single person & this is my ONLY transportation, fortunately I was able to bum a ride to work & then home. It ended up costing me $1,407.71, now this might not be a lot to some people but for a single working female with one income this is a LOT to me. I see that this has happend to others & I AGREE it SHOULD be on the RECALL list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I work hard for my money & this was an expense I DID NOT NEED!!!!

Update from Jun 12, 2015: Back in November 2014 I received a letter saying that I could be reimbursed if I had my TIPM replaced. I had to send the original receipt where I paid ($1,407.71) plus the invoice from the dealership that did the work. I did all this, sent it certified with a return receipt, I also made copies of all the information I had to send & I have my receipt where someone signed that they received it. Then on November 25, 2014 I received a call from Chrysler saying that all "reimbursements" were put on hold because replacing the TIPM might not solve the problem. I was told that I would get another letter when they were going to refund me & she gave me a case number. To this date I HAVE NOT heard a word from them. However on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee since I had the TIPM replaced I have not had any problems with the vehicle starting. Of course that could change today.....who knows???? I really wish they would send me my refund!!!!!!!!!!!!

The issue first came up this past summer. The vehicle was still under warranty and the dealer flashed the system and fixed the problem (supposedly). There had been minor instances where it wouldn't immediately start but usually the 2nd attempt it turned over so never thought much of it. Around the end of January this year it has slowly reared its ugly head and it now takes me between 3-10 attempts to start my vehicle and there is an odd smell once the engine turns over. I work for a non profit here in San Angelo and therefore am on the road in some not so safe environments daily. This issue severely frustrates me and hinders my work ability in days where the vehicle just won't start and I have to take my husband's vehicle. I need my car to work.. I didn't pay 40k for this!

I am a single mother going to school full time and working full time. I work very hard to be able to afford a good life style without burdening others. With that said, I worked super hard to be able to afford my 2011 Jeep Cherokee, a jeep that i had wanted for years! I finally was able to afford to it and less than a year and a half after having it, the problems started. First, the automatic locks just stopped working. I paid $300 to get one door fixed. Then i started to notice that every once in awhile when i would start the car, it would start and immediately die. I thought, "well maybe i pushed the button too fast or something" Then i began to notice that i would try 3 or 4 times before it would start. Then one day, while parked in my garage, i attempted to start it and it wouldn't start at all. I called a tow truck and after trying 50million times, he was able to get it started only to have it die a few minutes later. I took it to a autoshop. They worked on it for days and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start. Then all of a sudden one day it miraculously it started. They charged me, i took it home, parked it in the garage and woke up to it not starting again. This time i decided ok, im going to have it towed to the actual Jeep dealership. They kept if or 2 days, charged me over $100 and said it was fixed. I took it home but this time decided against parking in the garage. Good thing i did, because once again it wouldn't start and i found myself being charged once again to get it towed because insurance only covers so many tows a year. So i took it back to the Jeep dealership and low and behold they discover its the TIPM that needed to be replaced. AND GUESS WHAT!! national back order with no clue on arrival date. I begged them for a loaner because there was no way i could afford a rental car for who knew how long. Luckily for me, they were able to give me the last one they had on the lot. THANK GOD!! My car sat in the parking lot of the dealership for over 2 months, and yes i had to continue to pay a nice car note for a car i could not even drive. My car is practically brand new and I've had to dish out a lot of money to get it fixed, and i couldn't even drive it! Jeep has known about this problem for how long and they refuse to fix the problem or even do a recall but yet there is a national back order? Oh did i mention i was told that there is only ONE company that makes the part we need to get it fixed? How convenient! I am very disappointment at Jeep/Chrysler. This is pispoor buisness! I use to recommend this jeep to friends and family, but knowing what i know now, NO Way!!!

Crank but will not start. This problem started around early Nov. 2013 and at about 52000 miles, the Jeep would crank but would not start. It would take a number of tries before we could get the jeep started. The problem usually appeared in the morning. Once I got it started it ran fine. My problem which I have not notice that anyone else had apart from the not starting was that, I could not stop the jeep from cranking by pressing the start/stop button. I had to take it out of PARK in order to stop it from cranking. The remote start seems to work sometimes but that was a one shot deal. If it did not start on its first try it would disable the remote start.

At the end of August 2013 our Jeep would not start . At first it was sporadic and gradually stopped responding at all. We also noticed something continued to run after the car was turned off. We contacted the dealership and they took the Jeep to check it out.. Dealership returned the Jeep to us saying the replaced something to do with the fuel filter . After not even one full day again the Jeep left me sitting without notice. I returned the Jeep to the dealer on September 6 and that is where it remained until December 14 when we where told the problem had been fixed. Once again we are sitting on a Vehicle that is not fixed only patched up and we are not very happy consumers WE were told that this relay wiring harness would solve the problem yet it still remains. The Jeep has had many symptoms such as horn blowing without prompt, not starting , no headlights, sunroof opens and closes at will, loud humming noise from under the Jeep. When will this end?

Vehicle will not start until several attempts. Also, the fuel pump will sometimes continue to run when the vehicle is shut off, draining the battery. Dealership said the cause is a faulty relay switch that is built inside or into the TIPM. So to fix a 10 dollar relay is to replace the entire TIPM, however they are on national backorder. So who knows when they will arrive. Other option is to bypass the defective relay in the TIPM by installing an external relay to the fuel pump. They told me that this is Chryslers/Jeeps fix for the problem. Which is funny because they told me they have never heard of this problem. So how can they (Chrysler) have a fix for it, if they never heard of it. But here's the rub, the relay needed is also on some sort of special ordering and will take 3 weeks to arrive. A Mopar parts dealer told me there was something like 4 thousand of these relays being sent out from Michigan this month which tells me that they know they have a problem, and this is there fix.

So that is my dilemma. We will see what happens.

Join me in the TMPI party. Car won't start in the morning for about 5 minutes, then starts all day. Remote start works once in a while. Awaiting for the part from Chrysler and picked up Jeep yesterday and continues to take 5 - 10 minutes to start. Got up this morning and something was running underneath the vehicle, RUNNING. And it drained battery. Now I am awaiting tow truck to jump or tow back to dealership and get a rental. I knew I was making mistake when I bought this SLED.

Working in the car business for years, the Grand Cherokee has been notorious for electrical problems. This car is possessed. Awful.....

Replaced battery 3 mos ago at recommendation of dealership (Jeep of North Broward). Now believe this was due to my latest diagnosis (TIPM). First started Jan. of '13 with the Jeep not recognizing the key and ended this week with it not starting at all. Now I am told the TIPM is bad, needs to be replaced, but the replacement part is on backorder and they have no idea when it's available.

Recommended I call Chrysler customer service and file a complaint. Dealership offered nothing else. Filed the complaint, received a case number and was told they would be in contact with 4 - 5 days. I work in outside sales. This is completely not acceptable!

THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE! I am reaching out to local media as well as my representatives in congress. Chrysler is dragging their feet. They just recalled 91K of the 2014 Jeep GC. There are several similar TIPM stories on the Jeep thread. Too many to ignore. Just Google TIPM. This is my first and probably last Jeep. Unless quick resolution, I will tell as many people as possible to stay away.

The TIPM is a MAJOR issue with this vehicle. Just google Jeep TIPM, and you will see hundreds of complaints about this issue. And, the part is on backorder for MONTHS! And,Jeep does not care about it's customers. We have been told that it will take 2-4 weeks for the part to arrive, and we are not being provided a free rental during this time. We are expected to wait a month, which from what I have read on forums, etc., may not be true, but more than likely will be 2 or 3 months, for the vehicle to be repaired. And, continue to make the car payment on a vehicle that we cannot drive (through the fault of Jeep), pay for a rental car for several weeks, AND pay $1200 for the repair. And, where is our guarantee that the replacement will not fail, too??!!?? Jeep should pay for a rental car for the owner, and repair the vehicle for free. Or recall this vehicle.

Really Jeep after 40,000 miles and only 2 years old. You don't cover the main computer leaving the driver in harms way. Shutting off on the highway then you have so many issues that the part is on back order for the Jeep Dealers. Shame on you! Step up for your loyal buyers. This is my second grand Cherokee and we were going to get a 2014 but having a basically new car blow up on you is not safe or fair to hard working buyers.

Shaver jeep in Thousand Oaks ca said it would cost me $1100. Why won't jeep face up to the issue and put a recall. Why is the part on a two week back order.
