Its a pain in my rear end when you buy a $50K vehicle and one of the luxury items is malfunctioning and potentially can be worse (as read in some forums). I have a been a Jeep owner since 2002 and would like them to stand behind their product. A recall would be nice as I see there are many complaints for the TIPM in this year

Received a call (6/17) from my wife that she was having trouble starting her Jeep and was stranded downtown picking up her elderly father who was just out of the hospital. Her vehicle had ample electrical power for everything to turn on except engine start. I met and traded cars with her and sat and waited for tow truck. Tow truck driver tried the usual jump start with no luck. We had it towed to a local Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer in West Des Moines.

Got a call the next morning saying they tried and jump start it and had no luck, Ya figure? Call later saying it was a faulty transmission sensor should be fixed fairly quickly on the 18th/19th, they were very busy and several days out.

Call from service on the 19th say the PCM wasn't talking to the trans sensor. Needed new PCM, and would take three days to get. Mentioned off hand the service (I know , nobody likes to be told their job) that lots of people were having problems with the TIPM modules. He assured me it was nothing that simple and the issue was more complex but they was at a loss for what was going on and couldn't give me estimate on time frame.

So here were are hemorrhaging money on a rental with no clear answers.

Call today 6/30 from service department, come to find out it was a faulty TIPM and it only took them 16 hours of dealer shop labor to find it. They had the part on hand and 30 min of labor and it should be fixed.

In fairness they did offer to pay 5 days of or car rental.

Just bought a 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland. Within two weeks of having it, it has been in the shop twice. First the DRL bulb holder went bad and had to be replaced. Now the car won't start! You press the push button start and it just starts trying to crank over but won't. It takes multiple times to finally get it started, by the time it does start you can smell fuel burning. I dropped it off at Jeep they have called me and said that they don't see any issue with it! It has been doing this since I purchased the car 2 weeks ago from the Jeep dealership. I told them about the TIMP issue that other people have been having which they completely denied. But they said they would check it out anyways. So now I'm waiting here to hear back from them.

The car will turn over but not start. It does not appear to be getting fuel. After looking on the Internet, we identified the TIPM issue and I tested the relay, which is not reliably sending power to the fuel pump.

I contacted the Jeep Customer Care line to give them a chance to address the issue and they have not listed as an issue for this vehicle. They want me to take it into the dealership to be diagnosed but a fuel problem can have many causes and I'm reluctant to do the dance, e.g., fuel pump replacement, starter, battery, etc. when it seems pretty clear with using a simple test light you can diagnose that the fuel pump is not getting power through the relay. Again, which I've done..

Sometimes when I push the "Start" button the ignition try's to start over and over and over again until it times itself out and stops. I'm afraid to turn the vehicle off after it has finally started due to fear of it not starting again and leaving me stranded.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

Add me to the list of disgruntled Jeep Grand Cherokee owners. My 2011 has had numerous issues all starting with a defective TIPM unit. I had it replaced in February at a cost of $1200. Since the TIPM has been replaced I have had numerous "check engine" light issues, dead battery issues (something is still draining the battery and the dealership can't figure it out), failed emission test (#6 cylinder?) and the list goes on and on. I spoke with Jeep and they don't care.

This will be my last Jeep and I'm hoping to drive my current model (if it will start) through the front door of Chrysler headquarters

Auto start quit working. Took it to dealership on Thursday and they said the could not replicate the problem. It happen to us again on Friday we took it back but all of their service technicians were gone. On Monday they called and said they found the problem and it would take $1400 to fix it. Sounds like this TIPM is a serious problem with this model vehicle.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,535 miles

It started with a dead battery, once I figured out what was going on (the fuel pump was still running once the Jeep was turned off) I had to start pulling the fuse. Well that went on for a few days and then the fuse would be placed back in place and the Jeep just didn't want to start up after numerous time of turning over. Finally, I just had to jump it of and if fired right on up, as if it had the right amount of fire. So I went and replaced the battery and it ran good for a hour or two and then back to the same thing all over again. I've bought new fuses and relays and it would run fine for a bit and back to the same thing.

I've taken it to the dealership and they wanted me to leave it there for two weeks and that's if they even get a chance to look at it by then, I told them if we set up an appointment I can arrange to leave it but that will be up to a week just to look at it. Well they said that they are backed up and couldn't make appointments until Aug 8th or I can take it to another dealership a few hrs away and even then I would still have to leave it there for a few days. I've called Chrysler and they act like this is the first time they have heard of this issue and just referred me to the dealership who is apparently 2-3 weeks behind in work.

Something has to be done with this issues, it's not a reliable vehicle to even transport my daughter back and forth to her mom. I've beyond pissed with this on going issue.

Update from Oct 27, 2014: Okay so finally it's to the point where it will not start at all. Was leaving work one night and I figured it was just the usual of having to play with it or even get a jump. Well neither work for me that night. After 2 hours of trying to jump it I finally got it started and just wanted to get home. Well not even 2 mins down the road it died out and another 30 to get it started. Finally got home and it hasn't started since.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.6L 6 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,378 miles

Recently, I have been having problems starting my Grand Cherokee. It would either just continuously attempt to crank and never turn over or it would turn over and never even reach an idle stage clunking along until it kicks off. After a few attempts, it would finally turn over and start and would seem to be fine until I left the vehicle for an extended time (cooling of the engine?). I have not taken it into the dealer yet because of the research that I have done and the fact that the warranty has expired (of course) and I do not have an extended warranty (although I'm not sure that would even cover it).

What I have found is that it seems to show the same signs of a TIPM issue a lot of people are experiencing which seems to be a pretty pricey item and is very hard to keep in stock (hence my reason for not getting it repaired yet). There is also a class action lawsuit. I'm wondering if Jeep (Chrysler) will do a recall on this item as it seems to have the potential for some serious issues if it fails. Sooner rather than later.

My car was having issues turning over for about a week. One day, the battery was completely dead. Turns out it was the TIPM. It was a huge cost and burden to fix. Chrysler should pay up and recall the TIPM, this is ridiculous.

The Jeep after a year of owning was failing to turn over. I would attempt up to 7 times and a prayer for it to start. I took time off from work to locate the problem through JEEP. I was finally informed through this site of the history of the 2011Jeep with the TIPM problems. I was informed through JEEP that I would have to leave the JEEP due to back order. I was denied a loaner car. I made calls to National Highway Traffic & safety Administration, to the JEEP manufacture and finally wrote a letter to JEEP. A CEO from JEEP contacted me and within half an hour I was contacted by JEEP and told my Jeep was ready to be picked up with out cost.

I have owned a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee since May of this year. This past week my wife began have trouble getting the Jeep started. esterday morning, it took her 45 minutes to get the Jeep started. She left work around noon to run an errand and ended up stuck in a parking lot in freezing temperatures for over an hour trying to get the vehicle started. Only after I called my insurance company for a tow truck, did the vehicle finally start.

She drove it to the dealership where they diagnosed a faulty TIPM. The service representative then proceeded to tell me that it would be a $1500 repair. After doing some research and discovering that this is a common issue with this model year I called Jeep Costumer Service yesterday and again today and received the same answer. There is nothing they could do to help. This is unacceptable.

Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L

My Jeep would crank and fail to ignite just like all the other posts. This started about a month ago. It would take a few tries but would eventually turn on. I found that using the remote start would have a better than 50/50 chance of turning on the vehicle or taking the push button out of the Ignition Switch and using the key to start it. This didn't happen everyday, just three or four times a week until yesterday, the fuel pump continued to run after I turned off the ignition and ran until the battery died. So, my Jeep is on it's way to the dealership right now. I'm just glad I have a "heads up" as to what to expect. You can bet that I'm going to be adding my name to the class action law suit if any money has to come out of my pocket.
