problem #231

Dec 212018

Grand Cherokee

  • 170,000 miles
Purchased vehicle 12-15-18. Since then, the vehicle has stalled intermittently (3 times in 2 weeks) at stops without any lights appearing on instrument panel. The first time, I wasn't even aware the engine cut out until I pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. The vehicle starts back up, but will not go into gear immediately. In one instance, it took about 5 seconds to go into gear. Brought vehicle to dealer where purchased (pauly Toyota- crystal lake, il.) who recommended bringing it to a Jeep dealership. Brought to crystal lake, il crysler Jeep Dodge who could not diagnose problem as no faults appeared under test. Fluids were clean, and at proper levels. Was told to drive vehicle until condition reappeared, and it would be reinvestigated. This is similar to other complaints about this vehicle type stalling, except that so far, it has only happened when the vehicle is at a stop in traffic.

Both mufflers have rusted and have holes in them. My Jeep is parked in the garage, never driven on the beach, washed regularly and very well taken care of. We bought it 10/31/11 straight off the showroom floor with 6miles on it. Noticed this today 12/25/18 due to puddles on the garage floor.

Ticking from left cylinder head and minor tick from right cylinder head. Chrysler admits to having a manufacturer defect in vehicle and extended the warranty on the left cylinder head. If there is a compression issue and the vehicle stalls in the roadway could be a fatal mistake. This needs to be fixed in all vehicles included with the right cylinder head. Or recall the vehicle. This is a huge safety issue.

problem #226

Dec 092018

Grand Cherokee

  • 130,000 miles
The engine instantly stalls without warning at any given time or speed while driving on a street or highway. The stall unexpectedly forces the driver into an unsafe operating position having to pull off to the side of the road without the assistance of power steering or power brakes. After coming to a complete stop, the vehicle must then be shifted back into park and restarted. The vehicle has stalled a minimum of 30 times on separate occasions over the last 12 months. The vehicle was examined by our local Jeep dealer and they were unable to determine the cause of the stalling or provide us with a course of action to resolve the issue.

Grand Cherokee

  • 145,000 miles
While accelerating to merge onto the highway, the check engine light came on and I could not accelerate above approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. I let off the gas thinking the Jeep would slow, but it didn't slow down. I was able to decelerate by braking (obviously). However, I was still unable to go faster than approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. I took it into the shop twice before because the check engine light came on, and I was told the oil pump was stuck on low (?) this has been an ongoing issue for the past four months. There has always been something wrong with this vehicle despite regular service maintenance visits.

When driving my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee it will randomly stall while entering a turn or starting to brake and it will completely loose power steering and shut off. I have almost hit a guard rail a couple times and almost got rear-ended by a semi truck because it wouldn't start right back up. I have brought this to the dealership several times and it still keeps happening after they claim they fixed it. They don't seem to concern while I almost have been into several accidents which included my 18 month old and wife in the vehicle. I have had the vehicle for over 4 years and this has occurred ever sense I bought it.

While driving the vehicle shuts off completely. Try restarting may take several attempts. There is no response from the engine ie: Not turning over, starter not engaging. Once it starts it drives fine until the next occurrence. This also happens quite often when first trying to start the car as well.

Grand Cherokee

The vehicle consistently shuts off while I'm driving, losing power steering and engine power. It seems to occur when I am slowing down. This happens usually once/twice each week and most recently almost caused a high speed accident, as my car shut off while I was making a left turn on a highway, which caused a semi truck to swerve, nearly hitting me and my 4 year old son.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • 110,000 miles
June 16, 2018 I'd stop at a gas station to fill up I was inside the station for about 20 minutes playing lottery for the next morning, I only explaining for time line. Came out to pump gas and noticed my engine was smoking and I haven't been driving long, I just left a water front park which is about 5 minutes away. Well the smoke smells like burning wires but no fire just heavy smoke so I let it cool down. And the truck was dead nothing no power when the tow truck finally showed up some 10 hours later, and tried to jump start the truck it was draining the jump box. So I end up taking my Jeep to a after market repair shop and his diagnosis was that my alternator had burned up. So once I'd replaced the alternator the truck still wouldn't take a charge. After doing further research come to find out there was a recall on my alternator issue but for some reason my vehicle vett my vehicle was not on the list my VIN number is not part of the recall list mind you I bought my vehicle use I'm the second owner is a Canadian vehicle but I brought it in the in Michigan from a auto broker. I'm currently dealing with northland Chrysler Jeep dealership in oak park Michigan and at their contacting Fiat Chrysler recall team and trying to figure out if I'm having the same issues as the alternator recall I believe it's T36 why my vehicle couldn't be added to the list for my reimbursement I had call the number that I have on a Jeep app that's on my smartphone there was a recall number and it stated that 2011 chargers challengers durangos Jeep Grand Cherokee and a couple other vehicles if I'm not mistaken has the alternator failure recall it also states that you will smell heavy you will see heavy smoke, my name is [xxx] my number is [xxx] [xxx] is my email.
