Active headrest on the driver's site deployed while sitting at a red light. Vehicle was stationary, in drive mode and running. Upon inspection, it looks like the plastic part that holds the headrest in place broke loose on both sites of the restraint system.

While in park, the driver side active headrest deployed in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My vehicle was not in a collision, nor has it been in the past. The vehicle computer shows no evidence of a collision or cause for deployment of the active headrest. The vehicle was at approximately 77,000 miles when this occurred. I was unable to reset the active headrest, and the local dealership was unable to do so as well, indicating it needed replaced. Upon investigation online, and inspection of the headrest, I found that there were broken plastic pieces in the back part of the headrest that appeared to be the cause of the failed active headrest. It appears evident to me that a defective part of plastic broke and made the headrest deploy.

The active headrest restraints on my passenger seat has deployed. There appears to be 2 broken plastic pieces that held a small metal rod that appears to have clipped to a release - which is still in place - as the rod was still held by it. Upon further review on the internet, this seems to be a common occurrence with this model of Jeep/Dodge headrests.

While driving my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, my drivers side head rest "exploded" and hit me in the back of the head. The force pushed me forward and I immediately thought I was rear-ended. I ended up with a severe headache and sore neck. I can see this defect easily causing an accident. I was driving straight ahead, but could have easily lost control if I was going around a curve or expressway ramp.

Service rep at dealership informed me that this is a common problem with Jeep vehicles. Was told repairs could be over $1000. If Jeep knows that this is a reoccurring problem, why should I have to pay for their error?

While driving normally the passenger side active headrest deployed. After searching, it appears this is a common issue, but there has been no recall. This is a safety issue that could cause an accident if it happens on the driver side. The system did not activate, but the part of the headrest that holds the locking pin broke, which allowed the latch to release without the system activating.

I was driving normal city street speed (approx. 40-45mph) while running some errands on March 23, 2019 when all of sudden my front passenger seat headrest sprang open with a loud noise. There was no accident or collision to prompt the release of the headrest. When returning home, my husband and I tried to put the headrest back into place when we noticed a plastic bracket that would hold the pin in place, and therefore lock the headrest back into position, was broken. I called my local Jeep dealership that following Monday to inquire about repairing the headrest. Because my car is outside of its warranty, the parts and labor would cost me $1000. The services speacialist at the dealership then suggested to me that I should get in a little "fender bender" and have the headrest repaired under my insurance coverage (also known as insurance fraud). I find it appaling that a flaw in their design, which could potentially cause an accident (imagine if my driver's side headrest all of a sudden deploys while I'm driving??), is not being managed by the car maker, and instead, accepts the money for the repairs any way they can get it. I am absolutely disgusted by this incident, but grateful that no one was sitting in the passenger seat when the headrest snapped.

On February 11, 2019, the safety mechanism in the driver's side headrest deployed while the vehicle was in park. This is a safety concern because there was no collision and headrest can affect a driver's ability to remain focused while driving. Mileage at time headrest "deployed" was 78,000. I was driving down the highway at 50mph and the driver side headrest deployed striking me in the head. This was not caused by a collusion just driving down the highway. Somehow I was able to pull over to the side without causing a crash. Under further inspection it was noticed the plastic clips holding the pin were broken. I researched this and have noticed this is a common problem that Fiat needs to recall this year model and headrest before serious injury or death is caused. Also the vehicle is just out of warranty so we have to pay for the cost of a faulty system.

Driver's side active head rest that is intended to spring forward in a rear end collision has activated and is now sticking forward. The car was not in an accident. The problem is broken plastic pins in the head rest. There are many other similar complaints from owners online. I have been to multiple Jeep dealerships regarding this issue and they refuse to fix the issue. They also claim that this deactivates the rest of the safety equipment including airbags which would be incredibly unsafe and unethical for them to not repair this clear defect.

At approximately 60,000 miles my active headrest deployed on my passenger seat while vehicle was parked in a parking lot. There was no accident or anything that caused this. After reading other complaints, this appears to be a common defect/failure of the plastic clip that holds it together. This needs to be recalled. The price to repair it is ridiculous and it's obviously defective and needs to be addressed by the NHTSA asap. Please issue a recall asap. So many others have experienced the same thing and this is going to cause an injury and/or accident.

Passenger front active headrest deployed without accident or warning. Just popped out while vehicle was parked in my garage. Took it to the dealer, stephen wade Chrysler Jeep in St george ut, and they stated that the vehicle was outside its warranty period and the repair would be around $600. It appears that plastic tabs are all that holds this safety device together. Luckily I was not driving with a passenger who may have been injured by the sudden violent deployment.

The driver's seat headrest has sprung apart and can't be reset. The soft side pressing against the back of the driver's head prevents proper head position for driving. If this had occurred during driving it could have injured the driver and/or caused an accident. The condition occurred while the vehicle was parked overnight when the vehicle was not occupied. When attempting to drive in the morning it was discovered.
