I bought this Jeep on the 31st of December. Only 10 days into having it the oil started leaking. I took it to a repair shop and he advised me that it was leaking from the oil filter and housing along with the oil cooler. He advised me that this is a ongoing issue with these Jeep. This would not be a easy fix as the intake manifold along with the heater hoses, filter housing/oil cooler assembly would all have to be removed.

  • 55,000 miles
Oil filter and cooler housing leaking. Car has less than 60,000 miles and in 6 years old. This is a common problem with the 3.6L engine in these cars and can lead to a fire or loss of engine oil resulting in engine failure without warning. This is not caused by any motion of the vehicle but just by the heat of the engine warping the plastic part and causing the seals to leak.

  • 49,740 miles
Approximately three weeks ago I noticed oil drips where the car was parked. The car had 49,740 miles and was almost due for a 5,000 mile oil change. I took it early and asked the mechanic to check on the leaks. He found there was oil all over the underside of the car and especially around the oil pan, although no apparent source of the leak could be seen, the oil pan gasket/seal was replaced. That did not help the problem, the next day there was a larger puddle of oil under the car. Apparently, the oil filter housing on this car is cracked, leading to an oil leak on top of the engine and pooling that runs down the back of the engine. Occasionally burning oil can be smelled, creating a possible fire hazard issue to the passengers. It would seem that this is a known problem - NHTSA has recorded a number of complaints from users (e.g., 11244788,11230350, 11193883, etc.). fca issued an early service bulletin: Sb-10058301-5939. Searching online shows literally hundreds of complaints about this issue. This is an expensive repair that should never have been necessary. The replacement part number is now on its sixth revision (currently adapter-engine oil filter - mopar 68105583af). It seems like there should have been a recall for this issue long ago.

I was driving on highway 26 West bound in Oregon just outside of portland. My car has ecodiesel engine in it. I usually buy gas when it is about a quarter tank of fuel. I had about quarter tank of fuel and about 150 miles range left. I was on the left lane and traveling at about 60 mph. All the sudden my engine stopped instantly on the left lane of highway 26. All the cars behind me hit the brakes not to rear end me. My car's engine stopped and slowed down so quickly. It was scary. I tried to pull over to the right side of the highway. Once the car was parked, it said that battery saving mode. It would crank up but not start the engine. I called a mobile mechanic over. He checked the battery and alternator and said the battery is strong and no blown fuses whatsoever. He then went under the car and listen the fuel pump and said that it sounds very bad.he had beliefs that I had problems with my fuel system, maybe a broken fuel pump. He read the codes out of car computer and they all were related to the fuel systems. I started doing some online research and found out that Jeep Grand Cherokee has a faulty design of fuel tanks and if the fuel goes below the quarter tank level. Then pump does not work properly. Upon reading this, I called a friend who brought me 5 gallons of diesel and we put the diesel inside the tank and the car started immediately. I drove it to a near by gas station and filed up the tank full. I think this car has some sort of faulty design of fuel pump. It will cause a fatal accident if it does not get corrected by the manufacturer as soon as possible. When the engine stopped suddenly, the car actually swerved around little bit. This incident could have ended fatally if I was not quick enough. I am writing this to let you gusy know about this flaw about Grand Cherokee ecodiesels 3.0 engines.

Engine fire occurred while vehicle was in operation. Vehicle has 3.0L eco diesel engine. Dodge Ram 1500 trucks with same engine are on recall (fca VB1/NHTSA 19V-757) for fires due to egr cooler failure, but this vehicle has not been recalled. I am a professional engineer that determined the fire origin and cause of the vehicle is due to the same issue. Yesterday, I participated in a destructive examination of the vehicle with a representative for fca present. However, I am not confident that fca will provide notice of this issue to NHTSA in a timely manner, if fca provides notice at all. The fire originated inside the engine intake consistent with an egr cooler failure. I urge NHTSA to investigate this model vehicle and extend the recall beyond the Dodge Ram 1500 trucks. Mileage provided is as of last oil change June 12, 2020. The speed listed is an estimate based on information provided from the person driving the vehicle when the fire occurred.

Two days later it went dead while a way driving on a highway. That has happens over 6 times! we refuted paying that bill with dealer in mountain home Arkansas. Car has been in my garage since that time. This has been reported to the dealer service department in mountain home and they have not responded with a plan to fix this extreme danger. Vehicle was in motion all of these times on a curving highway in hills and winding road. I am totally frightened to drive it and Jeep doesn't seem to care. I need help in resolving this.

Engine has a ticking noise at 158000 miles. I have changed oil routinely at dealership. I have replaced tires, tuneup, replaced A/C motor and compressor and tried to sell it so can buy a new Jeep but 3 people were concerned about engine noise. Dealership says dirt gets in motor and it will cost over 3K to fix it. I am now stuck with this car until it stops working. I am not going to be a returning customer to fca.
