Grand Cherokee

  • 80,000 miles
The active head rest went off without being in an accident (parked in my driveway). The passenger seat head rest popped out in 2019 and had to be fixed (was not covered under my extended warranty and Jeep would not reimburse me due to the 4 year old car being "too old") and the driver's side popped out this weekend (April 11, 2020). We cannot reset it as there is a tiny plastic piece that broke off and will need to be replaced again (approximately a $600 repair at the dealership).

Cant believe this happened to me in my 2015 Jeep srt also today! why does this defect go without a recall for all Jeep owners? while driving to drop my daughter off to her moms, my pregnant girlfriend gets smacked I the back of her head! startled her for a second and says shes still feels like shes got a headache from it. Thankfully this didnt happen while she was driving because that definitely could have resulted in an major accident causing injury or death! I am the second owner on this Jeep so I have no warranty! I inspected the headrest when I got home to find the plastic tabs that hold the metal rod from deploying the headrest are broken with the rod still in place like it never went off. Reading all these comments I certainly hope Jeep will accommodate repair without charge because this seems to have happened to many Jeep/Chrysler vehicles!

Grand Cherokee

  • 71,000 miles
Driver's side headrest activated for no reason - no one was in the car and it was parked in my driveway. Would have been extremely dangerous if had happened while driving. May happen to the other headrest while a passenger is in that seat. It cannot be put back together as the latch broke either before (causing it) or during activation and the headrest must be replaced at the cost of the owner (more than $700). Dealer said a standard headrest without this function is not available.

Passenger headrest exploded while driving on the highway, luckily no one was in the passenger seat. The vehicle was not impacted by any other vehicle nor has it been in any crash. Safety malfunction that needs to be addressed. Took the vehicle to dealer and they are unable to put reset the headrest, rep is stating that I need to buy a new head rest even though its a malfunction. Please advise what can be done to rectify this issue

Grand Cherokee

  • 45,000 miles
The active head rest on the passenger care deployed without warning or collision as the vehicle was parked with the engine turned off. The vehicle was never involved in any collisions or repair. Went to the local Chrysler dealership that has a repair center and I was told that this item is not covered under the manufacturer extended limited warranty which I purchased and will expire in March 2020. My vehicle has 45K miles and is a 2015 model year. Looking at forums the active head rest on similar vintage vehicles are having similar problems and are indicated to be a design defect when a plastic bracket fails compromising the function of the active head rest. Currently the head rest remains deployed and I avoid sitting anybody on the passenger seat. The link below is not from my vehicle but the deployed head rest on my vehicle looks the same.

Good morning, I was driving one day when suddenly I was struck extremely hard on the back of my head. So hard that I thought I got into an accident, although I didn't I almost caused an accident. My head and neck were hurting for a while, when I parked my vehicle I realized that my headrest had popped out. Not sure why this happened but when I went to research this problem I noticed that a lot of people have been complaining about ahr randomly breaking and due to the fact that it almost caused an accident and how hard I got hit I believe that this is a cause for concerns and an unsafe condition. I took my car back to the dealership and they told me the warranty wouldn't cover this nor was their any recall on my vehicle. I dug a little deeper into this matter as I saw how many complaints there were and saw that this isn't the first time this vehicle has had this problem and the fact that there is a history should at least cause an investigation. With all that being said, thank you in advance for your attention to this matter and have a nice day.

One morning as I got into my Jeep to drive to work, I noticed the passenger side headrest had popped open, seemingly overnight. I did not witness this happening - I just noticed the end result. I have tried to "close" it but I am unable to do so.

While driving on a public roadway at approximately 15 mph and turning into a fueling station, I was struck in the back of the head by the driver seat headrest propulsion system. The headrest is now in a deployed position. I am unable to collapse it back. It caused me to have to stop operating the vehicle at a fuel station for safety.

I was driving and all of a sudden, my headrest smacks me in the back of my head. After looking at it after I parked, I found out the headrest is a restraint system that deployed. The plastic tabs that hold the headrest together were broken. So, after driving back home, I am pulling up to my garage and then the passenger headrest breaks too.

Yesterday (11/24/2019) when my adult daughter entered my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited, just after closing the door and fastening her seat belt, the headrest burst and hit her in the back of her head/neck. She had complained of discomfort after the incident, so we will be keeping an eye on her to confirm she didn't suffer a concussion. The car was not moving and nothing had occurred to cause the headrest to react.

Oct 202019

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl Diesel

  • 61,800 miles
While parked in my driveway, unoccupied, and engine not running, the active headrest restraint system on the drivers side deployed. There was no collision or contact with anything to cause deployment. The mechanize internal parts the keep the headrest together broke causing deployment and not allowing the headrest to be reset or put back in place. I had to put a bungie cord around the headrest to hold it back in place so I can drive the vehicle without the deployed headrest pushing against the back on my head, which is very uncomfortable. This occurred at approximately 61800 miles. My factory extended warranty expired at 60000. Even thought the dealer is familiar with this problem fca will not cover this repair which was quoted at $900. I was also told the parts are back ordered with no date as when they will be available. This is a defective safety part problem which fca should be required issue a recall.

Grand Cherokee

  • 60,000 miles
The passenger side active headrest restraint on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee deployed while parked in my garage unoccupied. I took the vehicle to a local Chrysler dealer - they checked the computer and headrest and determined that the vehicle was not in an accident and a failed locking mechanism is what caused it to deploy. The dealer agreed to contact Chrysler on my behalf for a resolution. I was told by the dealer that Chrysler agreed to pay for half the cost of the repair - approximately $350. I agreed to pay the $350 only if they replaced both headrests which they declined. I am currently driving my vehicle with a defective headrest - hoping the second headrest does not fail also.

Memory seats no longer work, therefore causing my seat to be out of whack and I can not sit right. My engine began to make a ticking noise out of nowhere, meaning something is wrong. One headlight is out but isn't and causes my bright to be on at all times. When using my light I now cannot use my actual brights.

Oct 242019

Grand Cherokee

  • 70,000 miles
My passenger side active headrest popped open all of a sudden while parked. Luckily, there was no one sitting there at the time. I've read stories from a lot of other Jeep and Chrysler owners that experienced the same issue and there is a class action suit to force a recall. At best, this is an expensive fix which really should be the manufacturer's responsibility. At worst, it can knock someone out while driving and cause an accident. Please look into it.

The front seat driver side headrest has protruded forward. I just noticed it yesterday when I drove the Jeep home from work. It was parked in our company parking lot all day while I was at work when this happened. Went to schicker automotive group (Jeep dealer) in Washington Missouri. They told me I need a whole new headrest. Total cost, parts and labor. $771

Passenger headrest completely came apart. The back is not attached to the front and you see all of the inner components. No incident or shock to the vehicle to cause this. One day it was fine, next day it wasn't.
