problem #44

Aug 252020

Grand Cherokee

  • 64,000 miles
The passenger side headrest deployed. The car was sitting in the driveway. No one was hurt. It appears that the plastic pieces clamped on to the metal bar that was holding the headrest closed broke, causing the headrest to open. I notified Jeep customer care and they told me someone would call me concerning my case and I have not received that call at this time.

problem #43

Jul 222020

Grand Cherokee

  • 75,000 miles
The headrest on my Jeep popped forward suddenly and unexpectedly while parked. This appears to have been caused by a failure of the plastic parts of the whiplash mitigation system built into the seat. While the seat was unoccupied at the time I feel this would have caused injury had someone been in the seat.

problem #41

Aug 122020

Grand Cherokee

  • 71,000 miles
We had just left home on a family trip, traveling at highway speeds. The passenger headrest violently sprang open, striking myself in the head. We were a lie to get the vehicle stoped, looked the whole vehicle over to make sure nothing could have cause the headrest to release like that. The headrest plastic that locks into the safety release had broken due to deterioration of the plastic. Luckily it wasn't the driver side because it possibly could have caused a wreak/loss of life. Still waiting on manufacture to resolve the issue.

Aug 022020

Grand Cherokee

  • 92,000 miles
Passenger active headrest deployed while vehicle parked, will not reset. These vehicles have an active headrest system that is designed to deploy forward in the event of a crash but the plastic housing that keeps it in place has crumbled and made the headrest leap forward in the deployed state and will not go back into position and hold.

  • 70,000 miles
I was sitting in the car in the parking lot and was about to start the car and all of sudden the driver headrest suddenly popped open. It smacked me in the head. There was no accident or nothing unusual to cause it to happen. I am hoping there is a recall on this problem and it gets fixed, it was not my fault at all. Thank you.

problem #34

Apr 132020

Grand Cherokee 6-cyl

  • 56,000 miles
While driving on the highway at 55mph the active safety head restraint deployed, slamming the back of my head. I was able to pull over but stunned and this could have resulted in a high-speed collision. There was no impact or no triggering event to this. A preliminary call to a dealership indicates this is "somewhat common" and is not under warranty at over $700 for repair. I believe this is an clear manufacturing defect on a feature that can directly cause injury or result in an accident. Like an airbag, this device should be under recall for random deployments.

Jan 212020

Grand Cherokee

  • 72,000 miles
While driving the headrest hit me in the back of the head. I was driving in town therefore was quickly able to stop my vehicle to see what had happened. The headrest was deployed. I drove it home to show my husband & he said there was an air bag that had deployed. Had I been driving any faster I could have very well wrecked my car, as I thought at 1st someone was in my back seat. I have been unable to find a recall on the headrest but have seen recalls on earlier years. Please advice me what to do about this. The Jeep dealership surely will replace the headrest? thank you

problem #27

May 012019

Grand Cherokee

  • 60,000 miles
The passenger side active headrest restraint on my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee deployed while parked in my garage unoccupied. I took the vehicle to a local Chrysler dealer - they checked the computer and headrest and determined that the vehicle was not in an accident and a failed locking mechanism is what caused it to deploy. The dealer agreed to contact Chrysler on my behalf for a resolution. I was told by the dealer that Chrysler agreed to pay for half the cost of the repair - approximately $350. I agreed to pay the $350 only if they replaced both headrests which they declined. I am currently driving my vehicle with a defective headrest - hoping the second headrest does not fail also.
