I purchased my Liberty in 2008 with 17,000miles on the odometer, 5.000 miles later the rear window collapsed. I could hear the motor working, so I thought the glass had somehow come off the mechanism. I was told I would need to replace the entire motor and assembly at almost $400.00. I was pissed, how does this fail at only 22,000 miles ?
I removed the door paneling and investigated further only to find that the problem is with a flimsy plastic housing that attaches to the cable, was broken. Not the motor or assembly, and now having seen this flimsy housing was not surprised at the failure. In my opinion it is just a matter of time before all the windows will fail and replacing the entire motor/assembly is an utter waste of money as they too will fail. Unless Jeep replaces this cheap (probably costs them 10 cents) housing on the assembly they are doomed to keep failing and having read these posts the replacements still are. This is definitely a recall issue as Jeep know they have a problem and are basically making money off the problem instead of solving it.
Update from Jun 28, 2010: I suggest that that everyone that has reported a regulator failure on this forum sign the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/Recall/petition.html Lets get Chrysler to be responsible for this problem instead of profiting from it

Driver's side front window regulator broke. Warranty expired. Cost over $450 to fix. They even had to replace the window because the new part had three mounting holes intsead of two, so the old window, which was not broken, had to be replaced. This wouldn't be so horrible if I hadn't already had to have two other window regulators repaired. AND the passenger side that was repaird 14 months ago is trying to break again. I can't use the window, it's a matter of time until the window falls down into the door like it did before. It starts slipping if you use it, and you have to grab the window and straighten it up. This stinks. We drove with tape on the driver's side for awhile because I didn't want to spend almost $500 getting it fixed. I hate Jeep Chrysler, and I will NEVER EVER buy another jeep!

I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty and my rear passenger window just mysteriously came down on its own. After looking at this website it is obviously the regulator. This really should be a recall. I called Chrysler complaint to see what they can do.

This is RIDICULOUS! I have had both the drivers side window (window glass and regulator) and passenger (just regulator) replaced since I bought my jeep a year and a half ago. It has been approximately 9 months since the passenger window was repaired and it has stopped rolling up twice now and I have to stop and pull it back up. I guess I will be shelling out some more money now for a problem that SHOULD BE RECALLED, CHRYSLER!!!!! Thanks a lot.

Bad then Good news - Called Chrysler corp - they wanted me to get the est of repair for two window regulators. One fell 1/4 of the way down, the other is slow to go up. The est is $812 to replace. After gettin off the phone with Chrylser today, they asked me to pay the $100 deductible & they wouldn't charge me the rest. If I didn't call them I would of had to pay the $812! Please have everyone call & make the complaint!

I bought my Liberty brand new. Since I have had it I have had to replace the regulator in all of my windows. The back windows are the worst. The driver's side window has been replaced 5-7 times and the passenger's side has been replaced 4-6 times. The last time the passenger side broke it was on a Saturday afternoon and the dealer had already closed. It rained on Sunday and even though I had taped a plastic bag over the window my car got wet. I made an appointment on Monday for the next day to get it fixed. When I took it to the dealer to get it fixed, they charged $50 because I was 50 miles over the 12000 mile warranty. The rear driver side broke last weekend. I took it to the dealer on Tuesday with my receipt from the last time I got it fixed 6 months ago and even though it was within the 12000 mile 12 month warranty I was going to have to pay for it. They said that because the last time that I paid for that window to get fixed was September of 2008, even though it has been replaced twice since then, the warranty was still only good for 12000 miles or 12 months since September 2008. I am going to have to pay another $50 to get this fixed again. I have paid over $1500 for a problem that keeps occurring. I live in Arizona and thought that it was because of the heat but then one of the service advisers told me that it's the part that is causing the problems. Jeep should issue a recall for this part.

I'll see how this works out! Contacted Jeep customer service Contact Us by Telephone 1-800-992-1997 M-F 8:00AM-6:00PM EST
Contact Us by Mail: Chrysler Group LLC Customer Assistance Center P.O. Box 21-8004 Auburn Hills, MI 48321-8004
They responded quickly and assured me they would "help out" with the cost of the repair.
I will be taking it into a Jeep dealer mid next week and will keep everyone up to date on what their idea of "helping out" is
Thanks Jeep makes a great product it's a shame that they "blew it" on this window thing.
Until the next installment

While leaving the hospital at night after my sister's surgery, the driver's rear window fell. No explanation for it. Had to take it in to the dealership on Saturday for repair for the outrageous cost of $415. Asked the dealership why this occurred when the car was under 4 years old, and I rarely use rear windows. No sympathy from them since there was no recall. Was stressed to get it fixed because I had to get my sister out of the hospital and in L.A. we were scheduled for a week of pounding rain....and yes it is still pouring. Thanks to one of the comments listed, I called the Chrysler Customer Assistance line, and they said that if I send in my original receipt with explanation they will consider reimbursing me. I'm hopeful.

The Jeep is great but have had all four windows do this and then a few weeks ago, it happened a fifth time. Each window has been done and one of them twice. The first two were covered under regular warranty. The second two under extended warranty. For the fourth one the dealer was able to get them to waive the glass charge. Now on the fifth they want me to pay it. I am calling tomorrow to complain. I agree there should have been a recall. Five replacements is ridiculous.

In July 2009 the back passenger electric window regulator broke and we had it repaired. December 23, 2009 the driver electric window broke and it was back in the shop. Two weeks later the passenger back electric window broke and was down when I got into the vehicle at the end of the day. I took it back to the dealer where we bought the vehicle and they replaced the rear window and the passenger window, since after checking it was about to break also. We normally don't buy extended warranty on vehicles but did on this vehicle and it has paid for itself just by replacing all of the windows. At 57,000 miles this has been good vehicle, but after looking online at the other complaints of window regulators, this vehicle definitely should of had a recall on the windows.

The manufacturer needs to take responsibility for the substandard quality of the 2006 Jeep Liberty windows motors. The fact that they actually changed the size/shape of the rear window after production of the vehicle and did not make it a recall because of its obvious defect. I have owned more than one car in my life and have NEVER had more than one window motor go out in 5+ years of owning any car. The fact that 2 windows have broken within less than a year. Something needs to be done about this and they need to accept responsibility and cost of repairs.

This car was purchased used in 03/09 by my 60-year-old mother, who is not pleased about the rear windows just falling down into the door and not functioning. She took the car to have the window repaired 5 short months later in 08/09, expecting to replace the motor, but to her surprise she was told she would have to replace the glass, which was not broken or damaged in any way. This is obviously not an expense that should be passed on to the consumer. It is not the consumer's problem to repair components that are obviously faulty from the factory. But, the worst offense is to pass along the cost of a component that is not broken or damaged, simply altered in sized/shape by the manufacturer. So it seems to me that they must know about the problem because there was a notice that the mechanic had to look for in order to make the repair with the correct parts. The company should step up and take responsibility for their faulty workmanship. Otherwise, they may find themselves looking at a legal battle.

The rear driver's side window fell into the door while sitting in my driveway. No apparent cause. I googled it saw how many complaints about the same issue had happened to toher Jeep Liberty owners. I found one that included the Chrysler customer service phone number, 1-800-992-1997. It also had said that Chrysler covered the repair for a $50 deductible.
I had to file a complaint and get a reference number and make an appointment at my local Jeep dealership. They did fix it but charged me $100 deductible (under their extended warranty program which I do not have), instead of the $50 the other poster paid... I plan on calling and finding out how they make a decision on what we pay (neither of us were under any type of warranty) but I am grateful it did not cost the $500 they originally told me it would cost if I was correct on the problem (window regulator gone bad)
I still think with the number of complaints online this should be a recall item and not cost the consumer anything. For every online complaint I bet there are at least 5 or more that haven't "aired" their issue with the Jeep window regulator... Chrysler is making BIG money on this repair and it is not fair to their consumer!
I feel that Chrysler must feel some responsibility or else why would they offer it to anyone at a discount. I think it is one of those things that you have to call and complain to get any assistance.... much cheaper to help a few than to do the right thing and fix it for everyone. I was told in so many words that this is a manufacturing flaw... so come on Chrysler, do the right thing and I bet when folks find out you stand behind your product you may be able to sell some cars again and make some money.. until then I will never buy another Chrysler product!
Hope the phone number helps someone else- but make sure you call first!

This is the second time I've had to have 2 window regulators put in,first was covered under warranty, but the one repaired yesterday was not.The first one still makes a noise when you put it down, and the other one---on passenger side hesitates as well. This is going to get very expensive to maintain.

My parents bought me a 2006 jeep liberty when I was 16. After having the car for less then 6 months my window broke. The dealership replaced it under warranty. After 2 more windows broke just shy of the warranty expiring my dad made them replace all of the window regulators to make sure this problem never happened again. I am 19 now and just had another window break during a freezing rain storm. My car is just out of warranty but I am under the miles for the warranty, but Chrysler is making me pay for the windows, even though we have had these problems since the start. They will no longer just fix it, they 'have' to order a whole new window. That cost me over $400 and the service charge was just shy of $200. I am a college student, there is no way I can afford to dish out $600 every few months because of a problem that Chrysler has had and known about for years. Chrysler needs to recall this make and model and fix their problem.

I got this Jeep brand new. I have replace all the windows at least once. The drivers side twice and now the passenger side has broken again. I am hoping that if enough of us complain that there will be a recall and they will repair it. I am looking at 1000 of repairs for windows. This is crazy and I am tired of doing it. Plus you have to do something otherwise you will have no car if they fall down into the window, which this has happened.

I bought my '06 Jeep Liberty 2 years ago and have had both of the rear windows 'fall'.
The first time was in October of 2009, I discovered my drivers' rear window had "fallen" after shopping at the mall. I assumed someone tried to break in to my Jeep. I had no idea such a thing could happen.
Last week, the passenger rear window "fell" while I was in church. Thank goodness that dang window held up while I did my Christmas shopping the day before!
Chrysler needs to take reasonability for this defective window problem. It's expensive, a nuisance, and dangerous! Anyone can get into your car with the window down. It's an invitation for trouble!
I did buy an extended warranty, but the surprise expense of a $100.00 out of pocket deductible just isn't in my tight budget! I will NEVER buy a Chrysler again!
It's no wonder Chrysler is bankrupt!!!!

I have had this jeep for only 2 months had I know that this was an ongoing problem I would not have bought this piece of SH*T!!!!!! I am very disappointed in Chrysler. I have had several Jeep wranglers and had know problems other than I worn them out. This will be my and last liberty. I guess It is time to get a Toyota land cruiser! Thanks again Chrysler for bad engineering and leaving it up to the consumer to fix!! Well you have just lost another customer I think you can ill afford to loss customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I just decided to search the internet for purchase of a window regulator for my 2006 Jeep Liberty....it lead me hear! Imagine that! Now I see that many 2006 Jeep Liberty owners are having the same problem at 47000 miles! That is CRAZY! There should be a recall on this automobile! Anyway this is a great inconvenience since it is winter time and its snowing and cold out and I have to drive with plastic on my window, and have to watch to not leave valuables in the jeep.....too easy for thief now!
