I bought my Jeep Liberty 2006 brand new, since I bought it, this is the fourth time the window regulators stop working, the first time it was covered by the warranty, the second time they charge me about $100.00, the third time that same year the warranty still covers because it happened in less than a year, but now they said that this time it was really bad so they charge me $480.00 which is ridiculous, Chrysler needs to do a recall on this windows regulators SOON.
There are many people out there with the same problem, complaining about how many times the windows regulators have failed in their Liberty. Its one thing to have to keep replacing a part while you are still covered under the factory warranty, since the dealership will replace it for "free", but what happens when the warranty expires and you have to pay the entire bill? Throwing money at a part I know is going to break again and sooner than I expected is just doesn't make any sense to me. And then Chrysler solution to fix the problem is to replace the entire window regulator, guide rail, bracket, motor and everything, they said all was bad, that is hard to believe. So my option was to spend hundreds of dollars to replace the entire regulator? There is something very wrong with this picture. All I know is that I'm not buying another Jeep ever again.

Since 2006 when I first bought my Jeep Liberty (from the factory through an Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) for Deployed Soldiers) I had problems with the window regulator. The rear window regulator has broken approximately two times on the rear passenger side and 1 time on the rear passenger drivers side. At first the warranty fixed the first two breaks but once I reached the three year mark in 2009, I had to pay. The latest episode occurred almost 9 months ago. That makes a total of two incidents now on the driver's side rear, and three incidents on the passenger side rear.
My wife was attempting to work with the Chrysler service department to get it fixed. They seem to empathize with the problem, but the final outcome is that I still had to pay 150.00. Just last week, Friday 4 August 2011, while my wife was driving the Jeep, the Rear Passenger window fell down and couldn't get back up. So now I have two rear windows that are broken. I took it in this morning at 06:30 AM and had to drop the key off in the drop box because the service department wasn't open.
One thing is certain. I will not buy anything from Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge again and if any of my fellow military servicemen ask for advice, I will not recommend a Chrysler/Jeep Dodge vehicle, even with the AAFES overseas deployment purchasing program.
Great way to treat a Veteran who was deployed twice into CENTCOM

BOTH of the Passenger Windows wont stay shut . I took out the whole regulator assembly on the drivers side . I am going to replace it first , then the second one afterwards . What happens is the worn gear that is treaded through the plastic snake housing is made with cheep metal and the regulator motor has a metal driver gear on it that wears the cheep metal worm gear until it breaks .. Then your window will either fall straight down as both of mine have because the cheep metal wore and broke were the window was in the down position . It was definitely a pain to get it out . I am sure it will be just as fun to reassemble . The funny thing about it is no one hardly ever rides in the back seat . I guess I should get ready to have the front ones to take a dump !!!

i bought my jeep brand new in 2006, it's my favorite vehicle i've ever owned, it hasn't given me any problems until now. i only have 27,000 miles on it. my window fell down into the door, i called my dealership to have an estimate & they said it was the window regulator & it would cost $582 + tax. they said they had to replace the glass too because the part had been redesigned & the original glass would not fit into the replacement part correctly. i am still trying to find out if jeep will cover the cost of fixing it, i'm at the dealership now. so far it's not looking so good. i have read on this site that this has been an issue with other liberty's window regulators of my same year & also the 2007's. it seems to me if they needed to redesign the part then there is a bigger issue & this should be covered under warranty. they are charging me $100 just to look at it. i'm very annoyed with this! it's pretty obvious that it's their sh*tty craftsmanship & not the vehicle owners fault that this is happening.

this is the second time this has happened to this window. i have already had all the window regulators fixed. this is annoying and should be recalled. how many complaints do you have to have for this to be recalled.. i hardly ever use my back windows and i go out to my car and the window is down.. it happened last year to the both back ones in the middle of winter... something needs to be done

Just got quoted $500 for the PART by my dealer. Googled looking for a cheaper fix and found out it happens to everyone. Thanks, Jeep.

Just had the driver's side rear window repaired for the third time, replacement of regulator and window. Have had all three other windows repaired in the past for the same problem, and the same repair. Was told in January, 2011 about the extended warranty from Chrysler on this repair, so wrote to them for a refund of the $100 deductible I paid in April, 2010 under my extended Chrysler service contract. Was told today that Chrysler changed its mind about coverage of this repair and will now only cover replacement of the mechanism that actually lifts the window, so I had to pay another deductible. I will be writing to Chrysler again for a refund of my deductible and see what happens. These parts are defective, or I suspect the design is defective. How can they expect a plastic part to hold up? And on my Jeep, the back windows are not used very much, as I am usually the only one in the vehicle! Does anyone else have any other ideas on getting this fixed permanently without having to replace the part themselves? Thanks for letting me rant!

Seems to me Chrysler should fix this ongoing problem. If they do not I will never buy another Jeep. Simple as that. I have never had a GM give this kind of problem.

I am sick to death of JEEP. This is my 4th one, but NEVER again. These windows in the Liberty are worthless. Just fall down! I have wooden shims and duct tape holding them up! I REFUSE to pay another dime for a worthless fix. BUYER BEWARE IF YOU BUY ANY JEEP PRODUCT!

Okay guys, I've had to replace every window in the thing. Just got a letter from Jeep on the 15th stating the regulators have a warranty of 7 years now, despite mileage on the vehicle.
Also, Jeep sent me a form to apply for refunds from the three I replaced. One, I called Jeep, complained, and they fixed it for no charge.
Call Jeep and complain, and they'll fix it, and possibly even give a "claim form" to be reimbursed for past repairs.

We bought the jeep brand new in November of 2006. The rear driver window regulator broke this past weekend for the third time...we've also replaced the rear passenger twice and drivers front once. The first couple of times, it was covered under the bumper-to-bumper so there was no charge. Since it now falls under the extended warranty, the cost is $100 each time--plus the hassle of removing the door panel to raise the window enough to tape it up. We actually leave a roll of duct tape, a screw driver and a rubber door wedge in one of the rear door cup holders so we can make quick repairs when it happens each time. FYI- the rubber door wedge works great to help prop the window up & keep the tape from allowing it to slide back down inside the door, especially on hot days when the tape starts melting. Sad that we need a MacGyver kit for our Jeep's windows.
I just brought it to the dealership this morning & was informed there was now an extended warranty on the 2006 Jeep Liberty's to cover the window regulator, but for whatever reason--my VIN isn't one of the ones covered. Apparently six replacements in 4 years isn't enough to make the list. I will be calling Jeep today to lodge my complaint and try to at least get my vehicle added to this additional warranty coverage. I have owned several Jeep's over the years and this is the only problem I've had with any of them. Because of this, I'll go back to the Grand Cherokee or the 4-door Wrangler next time. No more Liberty's for us.

It was just a matter of time. Until July 2010, 3 of 4 window regulators were replaced as indicated in earlier post. The last one had a part "revision" requiring new glass as well.
Chrysler even announced and sent a letter indicating they had extended the warranty to 7 years on this issue. Sounds good, but not reality so far.
The 4th window finally dropped in February 2011. The dealer was aware of the suggested warranty but indicated it was only a specific part within the window mechanism. Since this required the "entire window regulator" to be replaced it was not covered by Chrysler. This does not seen consistent with letters sent out a month earlier indicating extended warranty.
Unfortunately now it's a matter of going back to Customer service to get an explanation and possible refund on the dealer charges in excess of $350.

Not only does the front driver side window sticks and rarely wants to go up, but now the rear passenger side window dropped on me and I had to try to temporarily fix it until I get the money for the window. Thank God today in the mail I received a letter saying Chrysler will extend the warranty and fix my windows. We will see what happens next week. Thanks everyone for complaining, I didn't realize this was an ongoing problem with the Jeep Liberty.

Angry- came out to car and noticed window was down... tried to bring window up, heard the motor going.. took it into shop, regulator broken.. awesome.

Once again the regulator has broken. This time it is the rear driver's side. It's been 9 months since the last time I had that one fixed. I think that's a record.

This is the 11th time my regulator has broken and the window has fallen down. Imagine my surprise, coming out in the morning and finding that my rear window is in the door! I have had every single window fixed twice with the exception of the rear windows, the passenger one has been fixed 3 times and well, hopefully soon the drivers side will be fixed as well. I do not know why they even change the window glass, I am going to ask that they do not this time, as I have aftermarket tint on it, and well, they don't seem willing to pay to have the fixed window re-tinted.
I now also carry a set of boards in my car to help with the windows. I am also becoming a pro at taking off the door panel.
I received some money back from Jeep regardin some repairs I made, and with no information on how they will treat those who are out of warranty, I have been keeping the check just in case I have to return the money to them. WHAT A PAIN!!

I bought this Jeep when my Hyundai died in the dealership parking lot. I liked it, then I read the horror stories on the window regulators. Mine had a history of repair in the past too and I have been anxiously awaiting the day when another would fail.
The good news is, no failures in 2 years. The bad news is, lately my window has started to come up on a diagonal when it's damp out and I think it is only a matter of time until I experience a failure.
I talked to my dealer about having this fixed today, and they quoted me something in the mid $300s, parts+labor. I made a phone call to Jeep service at 800-992-1997 as recommended below.
I have REALLY good news to report to everyone here (and it actually gives me a lot more confidence in Jeep, too -- I too was going to swear them off forever).
According to the woman I spoke with today, as of Wednesday, there has been a warranty extension issued on these window issues. I asked when it would expire and she wasn't sure, but said that she thought it was an "open warranty" on this specific issue. She said the dealership should repair it under warranty, and since it was new and many didn't know they should be doing this, that we should call the number and have them talk to the dealers if there is any problem getting it fixed. I haven't gone in yet, but I will report my experience when I do. I thought I would give you guys a heads up on this too.

Chrysler told me it would cost around $200. i got to the dealer but they had the wrong piece and they gave me an other appointment. then when i got to the dealer for the new appointment they replace the part and charge me $ 500 i complain because it was supposed to cost $200, they said they whee sorry but $200 was for the wrong part and they forgot to tell me the good one would cost $500 so they gave me a discount and i paid only $400 ??? what a deal. i asked them why did they replace every thing when the motor of the unit was still good. the answer of the dealer "we are sorry the windows regulator is only sold as a kit not separately"
the only part that ws broken was a plastic parts
so i think Chrysler is a thief or my dealer

Duct tape should be "standard" with the 2006 Jeep Liberty. I guarantee that you will use an entire roll of it over time to keep your windows up. In fact, I've read and heard that THE distinguishing feature of the 2006 Liberty is, in fact, duct tape on one (or several) of the windows. At a minimum, there will be tape residue on the windows and frames from the time you take possession of this car. We have now replaced ALL FOUR regulators on our Jeep. We are now replacing the THIRD regulator on the Left Rear. For those of you doing the math, that is SIX regulators on a five year old car that spends most of its time in a garage. (Either ours at home - or the dealership for its regular window regulator replacement). This was our third or fourth this summer alone. (Sorry, there have been so many, I lost track). You would think Jeep had a "frequent customer" incentive program...you know, like a "buy five, get the sixth free" kind of thing. Not so much. I contacted Jeep - hoping they would "man up" as they seem to have - if the Jeep was manufactured AFTER January, 2006 (based on the purported letter to Jeep owners posted on this site). Sadly, ours was manufactured in December, 2005. Oh, I did get an e-mail from Jeep with platitudes and explanations as to why they were NOT going to do anything to make this right. DO NOT buy a Jeep Liberty unless you have access to a limitless supply of regulators, patience, and oh, yeah duct tape. (Money helps, too, as Dealers charge upwards of $350 to $450 to do this repair.) Boo Jeep! and Boo Chrysler! Daimler did well to divest themselves. I would, too.
