My engine has randomly died out 4 times while I'm sitting at a stoplight or stop sign. I've read online many people have had this issue due to bad fuel pumps on Jeep.

Renegade

  • 50,000 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, there was gray smoke coming from under the hood and inside the vehicle from the vents while the temperature gage warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled and was able to restart. The contact stated that the smoke extinguished independently. In addition, after coolant was poured into the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to cross Chrysler Jeep Fiat (1501 gardiner ln, louisville, ky 40218) where it was diagnosed that the radiator coolant fan assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 50,000.

Thermostat failure code P0128 appeared and thermostat needed to be replaced. As this vehicle had recall on the cooling fan assembly, this failure is directly related to the malfunction of the fan unit.

Jeep Renegade with only 40K miles (4K out of warranty) and engine coolant thermostat just stopped working. Entire housing has to be replaced just to fix the one problem. The problem was made known via service light coming on with "service engine" message appearing on dash. The error code was deciphered as "P0128: Coolant thermostat (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temperature). It first appeared while driving on city streets at 40mph, and now appears at all times. This should not happen on a 3.5 year old vehicle.

Renegade

  • 47,243 miles
The contact's father owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that vehicle shifted into neutral independently while in drive. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated intermittently. In addition, the vehicle would not crank and had difficulty starting. Furthermore, some electrical failures were experienced, including all the windows remained in the down position and would not roll up and the exterior lighting remained illuminated while in operation. The contact associated the power train failure with NHTSA campaign number: 16V529000(power train), which only pertained to the 2014 and 2015 models. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was serviced on several occasions for the various failures. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 47,243.

The car stops and turns off while in motion. Car lights turn on but engine will not turn on. Had battery replaced twice. The car won't turn off even after pushing the button and exiting the vehicle. Lights won't turn off. Key fob is detected when not near and not detected when inside car. Have gone to the extents of unplugging battery to reset computer after hours it will then turn on and work for about 1 week. With light issues in between. It's become a hazzard since the car will just turn off while driving and will not turn on even with a jump start from a tow truck. The car will become dead 100 percent. Only lights turn in at times until battery gets drained out. Then nothing works.

Renegade

On two occassions while the vehicle was in drive operating on a two lane highway and remained in the drive position with the vehicle in motion the transmission indicator on the display shifted to neutral and the rpms revved without the accelerator pressed and the engine cut off. No codes or check engine lights indicated. The shifter remained in the drive position. The car had to be guided off the roadway and placed into park to be restarted. Vehicle was slow to restart both times. Both incidents occurred after entering a highway into the flow of traffic and accelerating and presented a danger to all drivers.

Dash display states multiple left side lights are out when no lights are out at all. This has happened every winter since 2016. When headlights are off things seem to be fine on the dash. When I turn headlights off shows bad light in 3 places. Lights are not out. Dash also flickers. I'm weather under 40 service engine indicator comes on, and engine will not function properly. Feels like half of cylinders are firing. Chrysler knows it's a faulty thermostat. Left me stranded 2 winters straight. Thermostat operates normally during spring/summer. While under warranty the technicians at david stanley Dodge in midwest city, ok said nothing was wrong with both issues. Refused to fix under warranty. Vehicle is now out of warranty and it will cost nearly $1000 to diagnose and fix. I put today's date in, but it's been happening for the last two years. With the thermostat problem and the electrical problems with the dash there is something seriously wrong with this electrical system. These issues are rampant and all over the forums. Miles when issue occurred are from 800 miles - 70483. I will our current mileage in the 'what was the mileage' block on next page.

Update to complaint # 11270456 reported on 10/23/19. I called Jeep directly to report the issue and they instructed me not to pick the car. They called dealership directly. They are aware of an "oil consumption issue" with 2016 Renegades which is related to the car stalling/going into neutral and the gear shifting issue. Since they did an oil change on 10/22/19, they want me to put 1,000 miles on the car & bring it back for an oil consumption test. Depending on the results of that test, they may have to replace the engine.

Ever since we bought the Jeep it's had problems. Problems included shuttering, electrical malfunctioning, and door locks failing. Even problems with the sun roof. Each time we took it back to the dealership the Jeep was returned with 'no problem found'. just recently the service engine light came on and we took the Jeep to get serviced. The mechanic told us about an issue or recall that's been occurring to our model Jeep.

While driving, warning light came up "shift vehicle to park" and car essentially goes into neutral. Once pulled over, car couldn't be restarted for a few minutes and wouldn't shift out of park. When it finally did shift, the "shift vehicle to park" warning came up again. Luckily, this happened on a local road and not a 70mph highway. Happened 2 more times when car was started and attempted to shift to D and/or R and car wouldn't shift.

  • 46,000 miles
I was driving my 2016 Jeep Renegade latitude (2.4 liter) when the vehicle stalled on me. Before it stalled I was stopped in what is referred to as a Michigan left. Once traffic was clear I started my turn and as I started to straighten out my wheel, a vehicle in front of me was turning right into a business. I applied my brakes and then started to push the accelerator when I noticed no response. I pushed a little more and realized the engine had shut off. I applied the brake and shifted the vehicle back to park and restarted the engine. There was a gas station near so I headed there. As I was turning right into the gas station (slight inclined driveway) I noticed a quick flash about oil. I parked at a pump and popped the hood to check the oil. To my surprise I was getting very little to nothing on the dip stick. I checked multiple times and it was the same reading. I just had an oil change on July 18, 2019. I hadn't even hit the next service date (5,000-6,000 miles) and there had been no leaks they I had seen under my vehicle or any abnormal exhaust smoke (oil burning) in any of the time driving the vehicle. My vehicle doesn't even have 48,000 miles on it. I have only owned the vehicle since the end of June. This struck me as odd as I have never had any vehicle consume this much oil with out some type of noticeable leak or burning of the oil. There was no warning light prior to this event about oil despite there being little to no reading of oil on the dipstick.

For the past week my engine stalls in the morning randomly while driving, when I'm about to turn and the dash tells me to shift into park. When re-starting the engine struggles and then comes on. It just happened when leaving work too. Started driving out the parking lot and the car stalled. I see there is a recall for 2017-2018 Jeep for this same problem and multiple complaints for the 2016. Luckily I've been on streets and off the highway and going slow enough that when it stalls I can throw on my four way flashers. But I'm scared it will stall while in heavy traffic or going fast.

  • 49,000 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle shook violently and the engine vibrated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to antwerpen Chrysler Jeep (6440 baltimore national pike, baltimore, md 21228, (410) 788-2973), but it was not diagnosed or repaired due to the diagnostic and repair fees. The contact lifted the hood and the technician stated that the motor mount failed and needed to be replaced. The contact also stated that there was a delay in stopping the vehicle when depressing the brake pedal along with a squeaking noise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

Driving down the road the car lost power, oil pressure light came off, lost power steering, car shut down. Wouldn't start. Checked oil, called tow truck. I had to push the car back to get it off the road while my husband backed it up to get it off the road. Tow truck got there, put can in neutral, engine light came on and wouldn't go off, car wouldn't turn off emergency brake, pushed it 20 or so times, emergency brake finally turned off so we could back up the car so the tow truck could get it front of it to tow. Car is now at the dealership. We have had nothing but problems with this car and it is dangerously unsafe. The car was in the dealership already this summer for weeks for electrical lights going off and the car continuing to run without the key in the ignition. The Jeep Renegades need to be took off the road.

My car was making a noise when I would accelerate like friction. Noticed a smell coming from ac vents. Took my vehicle into certified Jeep dealership. I was told about recall on engine cooling fan on my year and make of vehicle but my VIN wasnt listed even though it was the same exact issue. 700$ for fan replacement when mopar clearly acknowledges issue.

Jeep only has 40,000 miles on it and one day driving home on the interstate, the car killed while driving without warning and almost caused me to crash. The car behind me had to swerve to avoid rear ending me as well. Had it sent to a mechanic and he said that the fuel pump failed. Car is only at 40,000 miles and is only 3 years old. Cost to repair it is $800. I looked up cases and apparently this is a known issue with Jeep Renegade fuel pumps and other years 2017 and up have been recalled but why hasn't mine? almost causing a crash and the cost of the repair is the 1st issue, the biggest stressor is the fact that the part is on back order and Chrysler won't ship my mechanic the part for 3 weeks. Yes 3 weeks without a vehicle, lost wages, and missed classes because I have a hard time getting to class for nursing school. I had a rental car that I was paying $27 dollars a day but after 1.5 weeks, I can't afford that plus the $800+ repair so I returned it. My mechanic also noticed the canister of the evap system is also bad which is another thing that shouldn't be going bad this soon. Now my total is $1075. Plus the $300 of the rental I had to get while Chrysler was taking their time getting the part I needed. Yesterday I had to call corporate to beg them to get this part moving faster. The fact that the part is back ordered, means a lot of other people are having this same issue. It's time to recall this part before it kills someone. I was lucky and was able to correct the car when it was trying to suddenly jerk off the road with speeds of 70 mph. But not everyone might not be lucky and it's a dangerous situation waiting to happen.
