problem #151

Nov 152019

Wrangler

  • 12,400 miles
While driving on the interstate at approximately 72 mph, I drove over a bridge and subsequently bumps in the road. The steering wheel started shaking violently from side to side causing an increase in vibration through out my Jeep and swerving on the road. Next time I was with my husband and it did it again at about 74 mph and he too agreed that something is wrong. He now fears for my safety in this vehicle as I drive a lot of miles.

Test drove a Jeep Wrangler, drove great. Got my new Wrangler, not so great, as a matter of fact it's dangerous! excessive play in the steering wheel makes it near impossible to keep the vehicle in a lane.. I can't imagine how much more dangerous this vehicle will be once it is driven in the snow. This vehicle has been at the shop 3 * with another appointment coming up. So far two steering dampners 2 wheel alignments, no change... something needs to be done asap

Wrangler

  • 4,060 miles
I was driving on the highway with the speed about 63 mile/hr, and suddenly my front tirer, and my steering wheel was violently shaking. I had to slow it down, and pulled over. I thought I got flat tire or something. I googled, and find out a lot people have this problem also. It's called "dead wobble".

problem #147

Nov 022019

Wrangler

  • 6,600 miles
While driving on a highway at approximately 62 miles per hour, after a transition on a rough patch of highway road (uneven blacktop) the vehicle began to violently shake. The shaking felt horizontal as well as vertical. It stopped and then started again over the course of one to two miles. It was very violent and disruptive to the driver and passenger causing them to feel unsafe and unwell. The driver had to hang on tight to the steering wheel to maintain control of the Jeep. We have no idea if/when this situation will reoccur and what damage has been done by this to a relatively new vehicle of less than 7000 miles. This was in dry weather on dry roads. We were driving straight, in a right lane and not turning at the time.

Wrangler

  • 13,100 miles
As I was traveling down interstate 20 in columbia, South Carolina traveling at approximately 60 mph, I crossed over the bush river road bridge and hit a few small bumps in the road which immediately threw my Jeep into very strong vibrations. The vibrations were so strong that I felt the vibrations from the steering wheel up my arms and into my neck. I truly thought I had a flat tire on my Jeep. After approximately 15 - 20 seconds of these intense vibrations, the vibrations stopped on their own. I crossed over three lanes of traffic to pull over to inspect my Jeep noticing nothing abnormal. All tires have normal, recommend manufactured psi. I have all stock items on my Jeep with no alterations to the suspension system, tires, etc. The vehicle has less than 13,500 miles on it and was newly purchased earlier this year at more than $55,000.

Wrangler

  • 30 miles
The vehicle has excessive steering wander when driving above 20 mph and gets worse at highway speeds making the vehicle very unsafe. The vehicle will not stay tracking in 1 lane without constant correction of the steering wheel. (purchased Jeep brand new & have been back to the dealer 2X and it still is not fixed)

Wrangler

  • 11,000 miles
While driving down the road at speeds over 50 miles an hour, hitting a bump or a pothole destabilizes the front and causing the wheels to vibrate losing control temporarily. This is very dangerous while going around a curve and the car is unable to be controlled.

Wrangler

  • 7,000 miles
While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle experiences violent shaking after going over a series of bumps. It becomes very difficult to maintain your lane. It is only remedied by slowing to less than 60mph. I have been able to replicate the issue several times. It has happened over a dozen times over the past month. I have 8000 miles on the vehicle.

Wrangler

  • 100 miles
Loose steering wheel. Having to constantly adjust tjhe steering wheel to keep the car driving in straight line. The dealer claims that's how a Wrangler should drive. I've driven other 2019 Wrangler and non of them had the same issue. Jeep care are providing a horrible service and so far they didn't proved any solutions, the case manager is avoiding my calls.

Wrangler

  • 8,000 miles
I have issues with the front end when driving at normal highway speeds and hit a bump in the road. The front end starts violently shaking from side to side. I have experienced this 2 times this week and both times almost got into an accident because it through me across the highway. This is a 2019 with less than 8,000 miles on it. I also have made no modifications to it- standard factory stock model. I came home and googled what happened and am now learning this is the Jeep death wobble. Why in the world is this vehicle allowed to be driven with such a known issue?!

problem #137

Apr 022019

Wrangler

  • 212 miles
At speeds greater than 40 mph, there is about 1.5 inches of play in the steering wheel at top dead center. This vehicle is difficult to keep in the lane in windy conditions at highway speeds (60-70 mph). Star pub S1819000003 was performed, track bar and steering damper were replaced. Wandering is less, but no change in the excessive play. Opened Jeep wave case 58745605. Case was closed by fca stating that the steering was as designed and a normal characteristic of the vehicle. The dealer had me drive two other comparable vehicles and indeed they all wander and have play in the steering as does mine.one was even worse. This steering characteristic is borderline unsafe in windy conditions on a two lane road and fca is offering no fix at this time.

Wrangler

  • 4,500 miles
The steering is lose with a dead zone in the center. I'm afraid to take it on the interstate because it wonders into other lanes and does not drive straight. The vehicle has less than 5000 miles on it. I have had the alignment done and a new stabilizer bar installed from the dealership with no improvement to the steering. This is the only problem I have with my 2019 jl wur.

Wrangler

  • 9,000 miles
Driving high way speeds hit a grove in the road on the highway and the whole front end turns to jello. The steering feel violently shakes to the point where you lose steering. You can't get over to slow down to slower speeds and you cannot grip the steering wheel too tight because the vibration will have no where to go and you will eventually flip over.the only thing to stop the vibration is to slow down which is impossible on a highway where everyone is driving 75mph. I have attempted to have this fixed twice. Jeep keeps trying to put a steering damper on it that does not work. They refuse to check for welding work or anything else manufactured defective that would cause the issue. This has happened multiple times March 2019 and October 2019 are the date I sent it in for service. Please help us consumers I have children and its not safe

Aug 072019

Wrangler 4-cyl

  • 100 miles
Steering wheel has "dead spot" in the center allowing wheels to free steer a certain number of degrees before steering wheel engages and turns the wheels. This causes driver to over-correct to keep vehicle in the lane. Esp noticeable at speed over 45 mph drifting from one side of lane to other and when directions change rapidly like in an S curve. Also when turning corners steering wheel and wheels will not return to center. Returns as far as the dead spot then will not center without lots of driver input. Consumer stated short video Jeep driving down highway of me moving my steering wheel side to side with the Jeep not turning at all. This is worse with speed and I can take videos from all angles.

Wrangler

  • 11,500 miles
Leaving for work in the mornings after the temp has dropped below 40 degrees the steering wheel will bind while trying to turn left. Normally only a slight resistance but one morning it almost caused me to run off the road around a left hand turn, I had to force the wheel to turn.

Wrangler

  • 1,300 miles
1300 miles on a 2019 new Jeep Wrangler 2dr, 100% stock. At 60mph on the freeway, in speed control, suddenly the vehicle lost all control of steering and shook violently, nearly causing a major freeway collision. I've now learned this is the well known 'death wobble'. I have also learned the vehicle has the damper supposedly preventing this already installed. The dealer has no explanation, replaced the 'damper' and basically said there is nothing more they can do. I'm afraid to drive the car again. If I had been killed, there would be no way to have identified the cause as the 'death wobble'. I simply do not believe no one has been killed by this obvious defect. The general manager of the dealer denies he has ever heard of the death wobble, an obvious lie. The service managers at two dealers clearly acknowledged the problem but said there is nothing they can do. I can't believe the Wrangler hasn't been recalled and removed from service. The lemon law provides no recourse unless it happens multiple times and I'm lucky enough to survive. This is crazy! I hope someone NHTSA will reach out to me.
