Sorento LX 2.4L 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,000 miles

So my ac problems with my 2014 Sorento actually started about 3 years ago. I began to notice one summer after long trips on the way back normally the ac would stop blowing but you could hear the air trapped in the system still blowing but could not feel anything. Luckily the first time it was still under warranty and Kia replaced the control system. I believe they said the doors were getting stuck that open the valves. Fast forward to this summer and the same thing has started happening again. I am unsure how much it is to replace the unit but I am very disappointed that it has failed twice now and have read multiple feeds where other people have had this problem. It seems to be a flaw in the design of the system. I will have to have it fixed soon because it happens within 20 minutes of the car running now and it gets way too hot inside the vehicle. :(

Sorento LX 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Just Replaced The Following:

1- Evaporator (Leaking) 2- Expansion Valve (Replaced Under Warranty before 10 Months ... Yet it fails again and again) 3- Condenser (Replaced Under Warranty before 10 Months ... Yet it fails again and again)

However they didn't charge me for the condenser as GW whatever that means. a 35% discount was applied too.

Anyhow, everything else in the car is OK except this annoying AC system.

If it happens again I am not going for dealership or use factory parts ... The quality is not there at all. and most properly I WILL NEVER EVER BUY KIA/HYUNDAI again.

this issue is from day 1 when it was 0 KM and yes I am first owner and all serves on time in dealership workshop.

it is a bad design and low quality parts.

I had to insulate the AC lines to increase a little bit the AC performance, the lines under the car going to rear AC unit is next to the exhaust!!!!! who puts an ICE next to fire and expect the ICE will stay even cold!!!!!

Sorento LX 4cl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

2nd time in 13 months we are having this problem. last year they replaced the compressor, I'm not sure it's still under warrantly now, so probably going to have to shell out more money for another compressor that may or may not last. ANNOYING to say the least. We had the same issue on a 2013 Optima. KIA needs to own up to the issue and recall their A/C's or fix for free.

Sorento LX 4cl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

Intermittent issue with A/C randomly not working after 3 hours on a road trip. Couldn't get it to re-occur at the dealership, so took several attempts to get them to figure out it was the compressor

We were driving 2 friends (all of us seniors) to Los Angeles from the mountains through California's central valley in August. The temperature was over 100 degrees. Part way to L.A. the cool air stopped coming through the vents and the fan stopped blowing air, even though it was loud. It was VERY hot and stuffy in the car. We stopped at a rest stop and then it worked again...for a short time. So, the trip both ways was VERY uncomfortable, especially not even having a fan. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment. I found a service bulletin that might relate to the issue. Before our apt date., the catalytic converter went out and left me stranded. The car was towed (see other complaint). The mechanic told me there was nothing wrong with the air conditioner. After they fixed the converter they assured us everything checked out. On the way home, an hour's drive, the same problem happened with the air. I called the service manager and he said sometimes in humid weather (it is EXTREMELY dry here) the unit will frost up on the back and I need to turn it off to allow it to defrost. This, on an hour's trip home? Wrong. So, really what he is saying is, he doesn't know what the heck is wrong with it. He checked what was in the service bulletin and said that wasn't the issue (a sensor). So, now we've had 2 failed catalytic converters with no reason why and an air conditioning unit that stops working (used to work) that they don't know how to fix. We traded the car in for a Toyota.
