Losing oil and having a knocking noise coming from engine. Kia motors had us take a vehicle oil consumption test that revealed loss of 1/2 quart every 500 miles. They also had us take a compression test, and three separate trips to the dealer for video analysis. After six weeks they finally declared the car under warranty. They ordered a short block engine and sent the 'head of the engine out to be retooled by a local shop. After over three weeks we got the car back. In a time period of one week the car had a series of events. The engine shut off in traffic on my way to work, it also had a period were when starting the car, it shook like crazy, but started. The top cover I found out later that it shook off its pegs and was resting loose on the top of the engine and was losing oil. I had to add 1/2 quart. The diagnostic on my partner's wi-fi in the car had a diagnostic error stating the cam-shaft was having problems. At first I thought a new engine was just breaking in, but the final straw was a large pool of automotive fluid on the garage floor. The dealership has taken the car back to work on it further. Both the mechanic who put the engine back together and the service manager whom I initially talked to are now gone. I started this process on 06/10/20, picked up a repaired car on 09/29/20, and returned it in a week. As I write this comment it is now 10/17/20 and do not know what is going to happen and if there is any more damage to the engine with all that has occurred after the warranty repairs. The car is in my partner's name of patricia a holcomb.

While waiting at a light on a hill my engine shut off without any warning. I was able to restart it. Two days later while driving on a busy intersection my engine shut down again without warning. When I restarted it, it accelerated really fast. I am now afraid to drive it. It only has 52,000.miles on it and the maintenance is up-to-date on it.

Bought 2014 Kia Soul on 6/16/20 at 106K miles from Hyundai dealer. Did not drive from 8/8/20 to 8/16/20-car was in a secure location. Driving on highway, made a turn, heard a clunking noise and car stalled and quit w/no restart. Did not see engine light before previously. Towed home, and then to cumberland Kia on 9/5/20. Promised a loaner car, but never got one. They said the engine was blown and it would cost $8000 to fix it. Only paid $7500 for the car. Kia would not negotiate. Hyundai tried to work with them as well. Called Kia Consumer Affairs. They asked cumberland Kia if they would consider any "good will"-they declined. The whole description of what happened fits the NHTSA recall #19V120-part 573 safety recall report-but the VIN# is not showing a recall. Purchased the car because of clean carfax (see attached). Past services on 3rd owner(puchased at 58K in 2016) were all done at cumberland Kia. Hyundai said there were 24 service receipts in the car from cumberland Kia. Hyundai had done their service and certification before they sold it to us. The car was clean and in excellent condition, well taken care of. There was no reason for the engine to suddenly blow like that. We need help!

Whenever I start up my car, the engine seems to knock. I took it to the Kia dealership 3 times and they insisted I just needed an oil change. I finally took it to a mechanic in my neighborhood who finally told me that I have an oil consumption issue. When I went back to the dealership, they refuse to fix it because their is not a recall on these vehicles. I have children and it is very dangerous for them to be in a defective vehicle and not know when it's finally gonna give out. Please recall these vehicles immediately!!

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle and found that the engine was consuming oil prematurely. The contact also found that the catalytic converter was overheating due to the premature oil consumption. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic retrieved failure code: P0420 catalyst system efficiency below threshold. The manufacture was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19V120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.

The engine in my 2014 Kia Soul + began knocking while I was driving on a highway. Within seconds of hearing the knocking, I was unable to drive the car and the car dangerously slowed doown on a highway with fast moving vehicles. I pulled over to the shoulder to find my oil had burned and my engine would no longer start. My oil was changed exactly 7 days before the oil was complelty burned out of the oil tank. There was no indication that there was a problem until my cars engine was no longer able to turn over due to lack of oil. Aaa came to pick me up on the side of the road and drove my car 60 miles to my mechanic before a Kia dealership could take it. My car is now at Kia, and they are refusing to replace my engine. There has been many complaints about this engine in this specific type of car. I am hoping that Kia will admit to the engine and oil tank being faulty and replace mine free of charge. There should be a recall on these engines and the manufacturer should pay for the damages.

At 113000 miles (13000 past warranty) the 2.0 liter gdi engine threw a rod through the engine block. No warning. Vehicle was accelerating from access lane onto freeway. Vehicle has been serviced regularly at local Kia dealership. Had reported on several occasions of a infrequent hiccup when accelerating. Upon research recall was issued for 1.6L Kia Soul motor because of the same problem. Debris had been left in engine at manufacturing causing engine to deteriorate and destroy itself without warning. Class action lawsuits have been settled for multiple Kia models from the same 2014 time period with the same problem. Resolution was monetary and extension of warranty to 120000 miles. We have spoken with Kia America and our local dealer. No assistance or recognition of the problem has been offered. This issue had affected numerous 2014 Kia Soul owners that have the same engine and no one is getting anywhere with the manufacturer. Please help us!

Driving down the interstate at 70 mph when the check engine light started flashing and the speed declined down to 60mph, in an instant. Very dangerous and almost caused an accident as had vehicles behind me and they had to veer off to the side if the road to avoid hitting me. I was not breaking, not passing another car. My vehicle had a damaged catalytic convertor that was replaced under the recall. I was assured that there was no damage elsewhere, with this occurring now, I disbelieve that claim.

I first started noticing that my vehicle was burning oil faster than normal in Aug. 2018. I took it to midas to get my oil change and explained to them that my car was burning or leaking oil because I had to put more oil in my car. However there is no leaking no where. Midas told me to come in sooner for my oil change and that's what I did. Then in late part of 2019 and earlier 2020 I will be driving and my car would stall and act like it is going to shut off. In June 2020 I was driving on the highway and the car started slowing down and losing power. I pulled over and waited a little bit. I thank god I wasn't in an accident. My engine then started knocking once I got home and check engine light came on. The code was my O2 sensor. I got that replaced but my engine kept knocking. So I took it to fort wayne Kia be a two repair shops stated that it something wrong with the engine, and Kia dealership said it wasn't my engine knocking it was the catalytic converter that is bad and causing the knocking/noise. But that's part of my exhaust system and have nothing to do with the noise coming from my engine, and burning oil. Of course that piece supposedly isn't covered under my warranty. Kia said it was going to cost over $2000 to replace the part but never explained why my car is burning oil so quickly. I have purchased this vehicle brand new thinking I wouldn't have the same issues that come with buying a used car but nope. I need my vehicle to get around and work. Why isn't Kia understanding that in the 2014 Kia Soul + 2.0 liter there is a major malfunction that needs to be fixed.

Car began losing power while driving (using cruise control) on busy highway (city, 4 lanes of traffic; 8/23/2020). Driver immediately stopped driving car and tried to find safe location to stop. Car started making loud noises from engine. Car was towed to Kia dealership (8/24/2020). Kia employee reported hearing the noise upon starting the car, and stated he knew immediately that a rod malfunctioned and oil leaked into engine. Kia did not do further inspection. Engine/car is totaled and cannot be driven. Kia quoted $7,400 repair. Said this was caused by lack of oil change from owner. Car has regular oil changes with paperwork to confirm user maintenance. Kia Souls with 1.6L engine have a recall for the same issue. Car's last oil change was approximately 2500 miles ago.

The contact owns a 2014 Kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle had been burning excessive oil without warning. The contact took the vehicle to deland Kia (2322 S woodland blvd, deland, fl 32720) where she was informed that the oil was severely low and needed to be replenished. The contact informed the dealer that there were no warning lights that illuminated on the vehicle; she was informed by the dealer that the oil light would only come on if the oil was completely emptied. The contact was also informed that there were no oil or gas leakage in her vehicle and that there were no issues with her vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and they informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact linked her failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19V120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

My wife and I are the formerly proud owners of a 2014 Kia Soul 2.0 our first Kia was a 1996 sportage, we bought it new at one of the first four Kia dealers in the us, bob lanphere in beaverton or. We have been Kia evangelists for many years. However, over some time, our 2014 Soul seemed to be slowly losing power, and also losing some oil between changes. We used it in town, rarely at highway speeds. I guess it is an example of slowly turning up the heat on the pot of water for the frog; but we just didn't pay much attention. We happened to take it to our mechanic to have the brakes done, he called up, said the brakes were ready but that the car had little power and asked 'how did we drive it like that?' he further volunteered that the exhaust emitted a metallic odor he associated with a dying catalytic converter, and that a clogged converter can significantly hamper the power. We were surprised to hear the news but the gentleman has proved his acuity and integrity a number of times over the years with other vehicles. We subsequently had the entire converter replaced with an aftermarket product for a "mere" 900 dollars. After the fact, we thought there was still some hesitation when acceleration was required, but it clearly ran much better. Then we found out about the 1.6 recall, and a class action suit for the 2.0! now we worry that if there is a programming issue it could damage another converter and even worse if the converter is not the instigator then the car might stop dead and/or catch on fire at any time regardless of a new converter. It runs very hot, and has less power than it should. Nobody can explain why the bad ECU programming would not effect the 2.0 engine's catalytic converter, we have asked the dealership and the Kia customer assistance center to explain the distinction both verbally and in writing with no real answer.

Catalytic converters has gone bad over 350K Kia have been recalled for the same reason. My group of engines is not included in the recall, thousands of people have the same problem. Why is NHTSA not doing anything? I have no oil leaks, constantly having to put oil into the vehicle. I lost power on a 75 mph freeway Kia is being no help, a wider recall needs to be done on this vehicle this is a bigger problem for consumers than they are covering.
