fuel pump failure, would not re-start fuel pump failure, would not re-start

Car stalled in the middle lane of highway. We were almost able to make it to the shoulder but my husband, 70 years old, had to push it the rest of the way. We were bringing his mother to our house for a 3 week stay. She is 95 and was in the sweltering heat for 2 hours before we were given a ride to a nearby Royal Farms to wait. The state trooper had a gas can which they filled with gas and brought back to the car. The car had enough gas in it to drive another 30 miles before it stalled so it's not that we ran out of gas, but putting more gas in it got us moving again,

Something similar happened to me about six months before this, but luckily I made it to the shoulder and was able to restart. I didn't do anything about it then because I thought it was just something quirky. My car was not part of the fuel pump recall which started at 2018 but the explanation of what happens to the recalled vehicles is exactly what happened to mine. The make and model of my fuel pump did not match the ones in the recall, but I really feel that this was the same problem.
