CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100 miles

Bought 2015 CX-5 brand new. Great engine, transmission, handling. No engine or other running gear problems. Having said that, the performance of the radio, GPS and information system is so annoying that I will not buy another Mazda again. Without going into detail already aired by many others, the inability of the radio to memorize its last playing song on the USB and the poor design of the scrolling function is a deal breaker. Couple that with the inferiority of the GPS (pales in quality and ease of use as compared to the factory Garmin in my Chrysler) and I am now turned completely off by the car. There are just too many quality cars out there to have to put up with these flaws.

CX-5 Grand Touring

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,000 miles

Similar to other Mazda CX-5 owners, I am experiencing the same issue when using the Ipod function. I bought a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring model used in July, 2015 and car only had around 15,000 miles. When I first used the Ipod, I noticed that each time I started the car THE SAME SONG came on. It doesn't leave off at the song that was playing previously, starts all over again with the same song (in my case, it is a Third Eye Blind song, which I now hate!) Also, even on the Shuffle option, while the songs are "shuffled", song 34 (for example) is ALWAYS THE SAME SONG. To further clarify what I mean by "shuffle", at work when I play the same Ipod, I have on shuffle and song 34 could be a Coldplay song one time and an Aerosmith song the next time. It truly SHUFFLES the songs. With the Mazda, shuffle just means moving the same songs to play at a different time. I have already posted a complaint to Mazda and received the same canned response that others have received, that this is a normal function of the infotainment system. Huh?? How is this normal? Oh, and another thing....it takes a really long time for the Ipod to start, as if it is loading every single song before it will play. I only have around 500 songs on my Ipod, so the wait isn't too bad, but if we try and use my husband's Ipod, which has over 5,000 songs, forget it! Most times we have already reached our destination and his Ipod still hasn't started to play! And, when I initially set up my Bluetooth, the Ipod function stopped working altogether, but that resolved itself on it's own after about a week. I have owned 2 Honda CRV (2011 & 2013) with Ipod capability and never had this issue. Ipod would come on immediately, shuffle would shuffle all the songs and when the car was started again, the song that was previously playing would continue. Mazda also recommended I contact their Customer Care department and give them my Ipod information, but again, I know it is not my Ipod as it does the same thing with both my husband's and my Ipod. Their helpful advice is that if there is a fix that comes out we can then take to the dealer. But, who is going to let me know if there is a fix?? And, the closest dealer is over 200 miles away, so not super accessible. I thought I saw TSB on this issue but now I cannot locate. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

The entertainment system in this car is terrible! I love Mazda's but its always annoying. The voice commands NEVER work on the first try and it's really annoying because when I am using my iPhone to play music, the only way to shuffle the music is to use voice commands. Sometimes you will be listening to music via iPhone and it will just drop the connection and the car says searching. It's something I have just come to deal with since I have bought the car. I have taken the car to Overland Park Mazda and they said it is a general issue of the car and they couldn't do anything about it. It is just highly frustrating.

This is a definite annoyance! Especially when the 2013 CX-5 doesn't have this issue. Just something for potential buyers to be aware of. Otherwise so far the vehicle has been great.

Update from Aug 23, 2013: Here's Mazda's Canned Answer.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Mazda about the USB port media playback on your 2014 Mazda CX-5.

With a media device connected to the USB port, your music playlist will start from the beginning each time the vehicle is started. This is a normal function of the vehicle infotainment system in reading your digital playback device.

Mazda values the opinion of our customers and continually researches ways to enhance vehicle features. We have documented your request for the infotainment system to memorize playback position. Should you like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to contact me, referencing file number 149343620.

Thank you again for providing this valuable insight regarding the Mazda CX-5.
