Rear brakes. I'm not exaggerating; I have the receipts to prove it. I change the rear brake pads and rotors about 3 times a year. This last time it started grinding within 2.5 months. I take it in for service at different locations; all they say is it needs new pads and rotors. Slider pin is fine and lubed. Pistons go back in easily. I'm at a loss. Cheaper to buy a new car at this point.

My 2014 Mazda Cx 5 with about 13,000 miles on it needed all four brake rotors replaced due to extreme amount of rust bubbling , pitting. Brake pads were evenly half worn. All rotors were evenly rusted. We live in NYC. Dealer service said it was nothing too odd. We of course felt differently having owned cars over the last 40 years. Never had rotors rust so badly after only 13k miles, not even after 40k miles in our old cars. We replaced them with OEM parts and they immediately started to rust after two weeks. Perhaps we should not have used Mazda parts, they seem to be inferior. We are noticing rust under the tail pipe too. Sorry but this is unacceptable. Mazda is aware of the problem but has made no announcements. I would think twice about a Mazda. My research has shown this is a common Mazda issue. If i knew it was this bad I would have never purchased one. Going back to Chevy's . LOL.

I never drive aggressively and always minimize braking. Under light/normal driving conditions with a car under 36,000 why would the rear brakes and rotors be destroyed to a point where a total replacement of the rotors is necessary? Honestly, Mazda should be held liable for this since a car should not have their rotors replaced this early. I would like a class action lawsuit filed against Mazda on this brake issue since this should have been at least a recall. It's a failure on Mazda's behalf not to notify the owner of the possibility of this occurrence.

premature brake wear

My 2014 Mazda CX5 was in a routine oil change and I was told there was a safety issue with my front brakes and that they need to be replaced immediately. Totally unacceptable that this is not covered under my 36,000 3 year warranty. I believe the material (steel) used to manufacture the rotors is inferior.

Rear break worn out at 42700 km only.

I've done all the required maintenance in Canada (1st is at 24K), second is at 48K. I'm not even 45K done and I bring the vehicule to service to get the second maintenance service performed. Result, need to replace the 2 disks and pads (500$ cdn + taxes od 15%) as one pad got stuck into the caliper (corrosion) and was touching the disk, that brought overheating and the disk isn't not linear anymore but "wabble" and it as tear up the pad. And as the fact you cannot change only one side, I have to do both.

I was told that or this was a maintenance issue or bad brake quality. That car was always maintained at the same Mazda dealer and I've followed all the requirements, so how can be accused of bad maintenance ? Yes, we have winter here, they put salt on the road and that bring corrosion faster than where there is no salt. However, if the quality of the steel that they use is like "weak" it will bring corrosion just faster and create more trouble. Just do a quick Google search and you'll find tons of people complaining about that issue. The dealer says that this is a week spot on the CX-5 but not a problem, yeah right ...

I've tried to argue with the dealer and they said they can't do anything and ask me to call Mazda Canada. What I've did and I was politely told that brake wear is not covered and that was my problem ! I've argue that I've followed the maintenance required by Mazda and that wear is way to soon in a normal life span of break but they told me to replace it and they won't do anything about it. This is a total joke ....

So simply, Mazda don't care about their customers, so, I'll probably don't care too about them when I'll get another car .... If you live in Canada and have face the same problem/lookalike problem, feel free to contact me by mail.

CX-5 LX 2.5L

At about 48k Miles I started hearing metallic grinding when backing out of garage. When I pulled the rear wheels I saw that the rear pads were just about gone and the rotors were scored. I'm guessing this is either due to a stuck piston or dragging parking brake, but I never use the parking brake so I can't be sure. I bought new rotors and pads but have yet to swap them out. This is absolutely terrible. I changed the front rotors twice within 50k miles and now I'm doing the backs too! Totally unacceptable. I used to think Mazda built quality. No more. I'll stick to Honda or Toyota next time.
