Turn off the car and the car remains in accessory mode. The only way we know it is still on is when the door is opened and the chime starts. I usually have to start the car and move it, then when I park again, it will shut off. When it happened twice yesterday, I started to research online and found out that this is common with Mazda. I also found Youtube videos showing how to fix it. The part is a shift position sensor and it is accessed through the console where the shifter is. The part number is KDY0-46-040 and can be purchased on Amazon for $50.74. From the Youtube video, I am guessing it will take me between 20 and 30 minutes to replace the part.

I push the start/stop button to shut off car and it won't shut all the electrical dashboard, lights, radio off. I just replaced battery because it was dead. I called dealership, and they said there is no recall on this, though this seems like a common problem from what i researched.

Same problem as reported by others for the Mazda CX-5. When the car is shut off the car does not completely turn off then drains the battery. Going back and forth to park works sometime. No recall is odd despite all the complaints and means no more Mazda for me. I plan to turn this car in for another car.

We bought a 2014 Mazda CX5 touring used , it looked and ran very nicely for 5 months , then three different times when we hit the right turn signals all hell broke loose . the engine stopped , the brakes slammed on , and every system warning light came on . very dangerous to say the least . afterwards the srs and ABS warning lights stayed on .
After clearing the codes every thing was ok for a week only till it happened again .
The mechanic finally diagnosed the problem to bad grounds under the front bumper somewhere .We are now in testing stages with our fingers crossed . a very serious and hazardous issue which may lead to accidents
. We will trade it back in if it happens one more time .

Vehicle was running fine but would shut down. Check engine light would come on but would clear after a couple of cycles. The dealer could only see a computer fault. The MAF sensor was changed and the problem cleared.
The other issue with the vehicle not shutting down when the engine off button was pushed was resolved with the replacement of the module on the console which replaced the faulty in park switch. Been driving a week with no issue with either problem. Faulty park switch replaced under extended warranty but the MAF sensor is apparently a wear item. 115000 km.??? I have vehicles running 300k plus and have never changed a MAF sensor.

After a rest stop, (in Switzerland) tried to pull (after about 5 minutes of driving) onto an interstate. Accelerated to fit into the traffic to about 70 M/Hr. - All of a sudden, all warning lights on the dash came on and or were blinking. Auto transmission shifted to N and car didn't want to advance anymore no matter what I did. - (Engine out of cold mode) . Pulled (rolled) over to the safety strip. Symptoms persisted and I decided to shut down the engine. (Engine at LI at this moment). - Waited for about 2 minutes and restarted the engine again. - Everything worked normally again. - Drove from the incident site about 40 miles to the Mazda dealership where I had purchased the car in April 2014. The board computer had registered the incident, but the dealer had no solution. - I think the issue here is SAFETY. - Depending where this problem occurs, the risk is high to get run over. - Had this same issue again April 24, and will report it again in detail. - Have also noticed on this site, that other Mazda CX5 owners had same / similar problems.
I'm not sure Mazda is aware of this problem, but they should address it, since it is in my opinion a safety issue ! Thanks and best !

The instrument panel and radio stay on when the car is stopped put in park and the engine turned off. The doors will not lock when this occurs and the battery drains. This is very intermittent and I have to restart the engine and drive the car a bit then try again until the instrument panel shuts off with the car. I plan to carry a wrench to disconnect the battery if this occurs and cannot be corrected with restart. It is intermittent so I have not taken it to the dealer.
Update from Aug 9, 2019: Mazda of Knoxville replaced the switch for $50. I had reported the issue while the car was under warranty. A new company bought the dealership and didn't have record of the complaint. However, they knew of the problem and replaced the switch in about an hour. I haven't had the problems since (now 152,000 mi). From the other comments it looks like some dealers are more honest and more customer oriented than others.

We own a 2014 Mazda CX5. Purchased @ Clear Lake Mazda.
In September of 2014 in Las Vegas the vehicle in 'shut-down' mode when I came out to start it. I had to us the 'key' to unlock it. No power what-so-ever. Called Mazda rescue. Jumped off and ran OK. Took it to the Mazda dealer in Henderson. All systems checked OK. Back to Houston. On my driveway, the exact same thing happened, Dealer sent tow truck for CX5. Dealer could not find any fault. Replaced battery.
This September in Myrtle Beach the same incident happened two times! Took to Mazda dealer. No Mazda tech on hand. Back to Houston. Took vehicle back to dealer, Clear Lake Mazda, Could find nothing wrong.
I have had the identical problem four times and no one can find the 'glitch'. This car has a computer problem, PERIOD! It is getting very difficult to send my wife out in this MAZDA. Getting stranded four times is surly enough. Someone, other than me, has surly had a similar experience. It is now past the point of an odd occurrence. There is something inherently wrong with this CX5.

Customers of the 2014/2015 Mazda CX-5 are aware of the following problem: Recently, my vehicle has occasionally refused to completely shut off. When I hit the on/off button when the car is in park, the engine is turned off but the electrics remain on.
Usually, all I need to do to solve it is fast move the shifter to the right and left again and push the on/off button again. When that isn't enough, I have to continually switch the car from Park to Neutral while turning the engine fully on and off again. On my way back from the supermarket today, it took me 15 minutes to turn it off.
Seems to get worse as the temperature rises and in the heat of Texas at 100 degrees, I'm about blue in the face and ready to get rid of this car altogether. Mazda refuses to help us with this. It needs to be recalled.
On top of that, they said it started because I charged my iphone? Why even put a USB charger port in the car if using it will ruin my car? This is insane. Also, the charger port doesn't work anymore.
