Putting the car in park and turning off the car the accessories still stay on. You have to really jam the car in park after starting the engine to turn everything off

will not turn off when shifted to park
Vehicle will not turn off when shifted into Park. Message pops up and says "shift lever to park". Sometimes just hitting the in/off button again works. Other times I have to move the shift lever out of park and then back into park to get it to work. Brought to dealer and they said that problem did not occur when there although it happens frequently.

This issue stems from a cheap plastic part under the shifter that has been reported many times on many blogs, etc. The engine will power down but not the accessories. You must turn vehicle back on, wiggle shifter back & forth to get the worn plastic part to engage so vehicle will recognize that it's in park before vehicle will power down. This may take anywhere from 1 to 10 times depending on how worn the part becomes.
There is a fix to replace and has been reported to cost $245 at a Mazda dealer. Many wonder why this hasn't become a recall. Me too! If Mazda doesn't listen up soon, I'll never buy another.
Update from Jan 29, 2022: Bought the replacement part online from a third party for about $60 and had a local shop install for another $150. Been working the last 20k miles & expect it will continue to do so. Mazda doesn't listen very well.
