CX-5 Touring 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Car stopped working on the freeway. Limped it to the mechanic. At first he said head gasket, but at the machine shop the cylinder head was cracked. He said to keep the receipts in case there is ever a recall, because the Mazda dealer said they see the cracked cylinder heads on the cx-5 all the time....

CX-5 UT 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,000 miles

While driving at 45mph, all dashboard lights suddenly came on and the engine died. Luckily my wife was able to steer the car to the side. I learned that other owners experienced the same catastrophic engine failure w/o previous warnings. Please contact me if you can help. To replace the engine would cost $5k.

Thank you.

CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5L V4 Awd

  • Automatic transmission
  • 154,500 miles

Caveat: car averaged about 25,000 mi/year; all scheduled maintenance and most oil changes were coordinated through the dealer. The problem initially appeared as a flashing engine temp warning. Coolant level was checked and confirmed at the full level. Car did not make it to the dealer before a red critical written warning appeared on the console.

Car had to be towed to the dealer. Issue was diagnosed as a blown head gasket & I was advised the engine had to be replaced. New engine replacement cost: $7,000+ or alternatively, a used engine with 87,000 miles could be installed for about $6,200.
