Due to the same defect Mercedes issued a recall for on the 2011 GLK, the fuel and sender pumps cracked due to a product defect causing gasoline to leak out of the vehicle as well as into the vehicle. The leak is near the exhaust causing a high degree of risk for car fire. Online research reveals numerous 2010 GLK owners with the same issue at various points in the life of the vehicle.

When my child was riding in the same car with me, my car suddenly died due to all fuel leaked out. Our car ran out of gas because all fuel were leaked. We can smell gas inside the cabin. Initially I thought car died because we ran out of the gas. After receiving 2 gallon gasoline from the tow truck, we saw dripping gasoline from the bottom of the car when the car engine is on. I am glad it did not happen to me on the highway or there was no fire sparkles near by. My car is only 110K miles with no accident record. I do not expect a car has a defective hazard like this. People could be killed. We took the car to the dealership. Fuel Pump Assembly 221-470-17-90-28 and Fuel Filter Unit221-470-17-90-28 will be replaced. Benz has recalled 2011 model. I have news below, " The specific models are the 2011-2012 C300, GLK350, E350, S400 Hybrid, S550, S63 AMG, CL550 and CL63 AMG, but only those built from April 18, 2011, through July 12, 2011. Mercedes says there are some 5,800 vehicles affected by the latest recall in the U.S. the unit may crack when operated in high temperatures. This may cause fuel to leak, which could then cause a fire." My question is, why my 2010 model was not recalled" They were using same parts. If my car's parts has the defect, which caused "fuel to leak, which could then cause a fi re." for just under 110K miles, why nhtsa does not do anything to prevent this happen? If you search "Fuel leaking benz", you will see tons of consumer complains. I could have ended up die if I was not lucky. Fuel pump is a critical part, it should not drip gasoline. Can you force Benz to take action before people died"

Two fuel tank leaks that are a fire hazard. First one was around fuel pump, cracks in plastic flange. Had repaired with a sealant. Recently another leak around the filler tube. Leak around passenger side rear wheel when filling tank. Strong smell of gasoline if not completely filled to cause leak. I would think a dangerous fire hazard. I see recalls for other year models, but not 2010, even though basically identical.

Lately, everytime I filled up the gas tank, I can smell gas from the rear left area. After some time when the tank is maybe a little over half the smell is gone. I assume there is a leak somewhere from the fill pipe to the tank. Maybe a bad rubber connector, gasket/seal failure" The vehicle has never been involved in any crash. Normal usage. Low mileage. Should this be covered by MB warranty at no cost to the owner" Thank you.

Plastic seal on gaskets for gas tank failed on both sides of car. Causes leaking of fuel and odor into passenger area of vehicle and danger of explosion due to leaking fuel. It occurs when gas tank is more than 3/4 full to full of fuel.

Every time I fill up my Mercedes glk 350 with fuel there is a very strong odor of fuel in my garage after I park the car. There is no visible leak of fuel on the garage floor or notification of any issue on the dashboard. The strong fuel order goes away after driving the car and burning off a gallon or so. This is a serious safety and health issue that started few weeks ago and is of a big concern to me and to my family.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercedes-Benz Glk350. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside and outside the vehicle. The contact stated that the odor was more prevalent after refueling the vehicle. The contact removed the rear seat of the vehicle and noticed a fuel leak around the fuel tank and both fuel pumps. There was also evidence of a fuel leak underneath the vehicle after refueling. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

On a hot humid day on July 21, 2019 after driving for 70 minutes of mostly highway mileage, there was a strong gas smell as I exited the driver's side door. My daughter exiting the rear passenger side door also noticed the intense smell of gasoline. The next day, I drove a short distance of 7 minutes and again I notice strong nauseating gas smell as I exited the car. Called the dealership and told to bring car in as soon as possible. I was informed that the fuel filter cracked. I researched the internet and noted that the 2011 and 2012 Glk350 models were on recall list; however the 2010 model was not! I was given an estimate of $1250 (labor and parts included) for the replacement of new fuel filter. I will upload receipts as soon as the job is completed (I am waiting for the work to be completed as I type this report).

Our car has developed a serious fuel leak on the drivers side rear. When the tank is filled to capacity, or near capacity, a serious gasoline odor develops. The other night when we discovered this problem, our entire home became engulfed in these fumes and we had to remove the car from the garage and put it out on the street. Also, when we moved the car out of the garage, we noticed gasoline was dripping from under the car and formed trail of gas all the way out into the street. The leak is caused by a faulty fuel filter/filter housing. This particular part is what was recalled and replaced by Mercedes Benz in the 20011 and 2012 model years. Our car is a model year 2010, but it has the same fuel filter (part #2214700390 from autohaus AZ)) and if you shop for a new one, you can see it is the same for the years 2010 thru 2012. The fuel filter is at the top of the tank and can easily be replaced by removing the right rear passenger seat. However, the odor and fumes at times will enter the cabin of the vehicle, and if the car is parked on an incline, leaning from right to left, I am sure gas can travel across the undercarriage and over the hot exhaust.

Extremely strong smell of gasoline when tank is filled, Mercedes Benz recalled 2011 and 2012 model year Glk350 vehicles for a fuel leak but did not recall model year 2010 Glk350 vehicles. The same recall is necessary for model year 2010 glk 350 vehicles.

After filling up the tank the car smells and leaks gas. However, the leaks stops after few hours. I took it to an independent Mercedes repair shop, they told me they need to change a unit and this is a common issue for Mercedes. After spending $450, the problem came back a month later. Now, they are saying, I need to change another fuel unit which will cost me an addition $650!

I pulled into my garage and noticed a strong smell of gas as soon as I got out of the car. After being in the house approximately 2 hours, the smell of gas filled the house. I pulled the vehicle out of the garage and it created a trail of gas inside the garage. Mbusa refused to cover the repair and also refused to disclose information related to this issue when I requested more information from the customer referral representative. I'm pretty sure it's not safe to just have fuel being trailed up and down highways and everyone is unaware. Hopefully they can be fined for endangering people.

This last two weeks, we noticed that there's a strong smell of gas. There's no leak that we could see but the odor is strong that gives us headaches. We are doing a research on why this is happening but the only thing we see about it online is about the link between gas tanks and gas filter. Please help.

There is a very strong fuel odor coming from rear left passenger tire area when tank gets completely with gas. I noticed the smell after leaving the gas station and bringing the car home to park it in my garage.the gas smell is so strong, it leaks into the house (via attached garage). Initially I assumed that I must have just spilled a little gas while pumping it. However, the second time I went to fill the car up the same exact thing happened. To date we have no remedy for this problem. Again, this has happened twice so far.

"gas leak and strong odor" have a gas leak with strong gas smell and Mercedes states my VIN not part of their recall. This is absurb and such a slap in the face to all Mercedes owners! we spend more than the average thinking we are getting quality, safety and reliability, but instead just the opposite. I am soooo disappointed is the way this is being handled and Mercedes seems to think it's nothing. Our lives are at risk not to mention to health issues. I had to go to the er for an inhalation injury from this and all they can say is my VIN is not part of the recall...wow..unbelievable.
