I then did some research on the internet and discovered that this is a fairly common occurrence on this car and the similar Ford Taurus.

If it is established that springs are defective why does front versus rear make any difference?

6/16/10 front springs; coil springs broke causing damage and lose to a 5 month old tire. I am in the process of replacing front coil spring and purchasing a new tire as this just happened yesterday. Very dangerous to drive car when this happens but I had to investigate the problem. Were I driving when this occurred, it could have been a very dangerous situation.
