When the car is stationary, move steering wheel left and right. Each time I change directions from left to right, or right to left, I feel thumping through the steering wheel and also through the floor. If I have someone keep moving the wheel back and forth and I put a finger on a tie rod end, you can feel the thumping in the tie rod end as well. The thumping can also be felt when driving the vehicle over bumps if the conditions are right.
The dealer replaced the steering rack and the tie rod ends (under warranty) and it made no difference. So I asked to look at other Altimas on the lot. We got into two different used Altimas on the dealer's lot and they did the exact same thing. But the brand new 2013 Altimas did not do it. The dealer concluded that this must be "normal" wear and tear -- it is ridiculous.
Nissan really needs to figure out what is going on here. I'm just about ready to trade this thing in and never buy a Nissan again.
