I was driving over railroad tracks all of a sudden I heard a pop and my car started acting weird like I was driving on ice and seemed lopsided. I stopped got out of car and noticed my tire on passenger side was pointed inward and my back end of car was low against tire. Something broke under my vehicle.

I was driving at about 35mph, hit a small pothole & the rear control arm on the passenger side snapped. Not knowing about the service campaign (that came out in 10/2019- I purchased the car in 02/2020) I took it upon myself to get the part fixed. Almost $500 out of my pocket. Fast forward 10 months, driving 70 on the highway, didn't hit a pot hole or anything... the drivers side snapped. This is clearly a safety issue as I lost control of my car for a solid 15 seconds. How are only the 2014 Altima in Canada eligible for free repairs but a car in NY state is not? I have a case open and will be expecting a call on 02/08. Really hoping Nissan steps up to assist with repairs as this will amount to almost $1,000 in not even a year..

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the rear control arm detached from the rear driver side tire without warning. Due to the defect, the contact began to lose control of the vehicle as the vehicle swayed from side to side. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home where it remained in her possession. The contact called russ darrow Nissan of milwaukee (11212 w metro auto mall, milwaukee, wi 53224) and sent over pictures of the damage where they confirmed that the failure was a defective rear control arm. The contact was then referred to the manufacturer who informed her that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was given a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Vehicle traveling straight on highway at approx. 65 mph. Vehicle jerked in a fishtail manner to the left hand drivers side. I immediately pulled off the highway, discovered a completely flat tire (purchased only 2 weeks ago). Vehicle towed to dealership and was told that rear lower control arm was severely cracked, unsafe to drive. Service member also advised me that this is an ongoing issue with my vehicle and that I needed to go through Nissan usa Consumer Affairs since my vehicle (although the millions of issues on record) to have my repair approved. Vehicle is currently at dealership and I am awaiting Nissan usa Consumer Affairs to call back to address the issue. Vehicle is approx. 7K miles outside of 60K mile warranty.

I have been hearing a clunking sound from rear of car for few years multiple trips to dealers and had them look into noise. The only thing they came up with is the shocks were bad, I replaced them and car still had the clunking sound. I was returning home from trip to store and when entering my driveway off public side road @ about 2mph the drivers side rear control arm broke clean off from the mount bolted to the frame and the tire crashed into the inner fender and twisted to ~45 degree angle. I know that the 2013 has a recall in usa and Canada and Canada also has recall for 2014 for the same problem. If this had broke while I was on expressway 5 minutes earlier this could have caused serious injury to myself and passengers not to mention any body else that could have in my path. When dealer replaced driver side he said that the passenger side needed to be replaced also as it was showing stress cracks. The car is garage kept and located located in Wisconsin I have all the parts that came off the car if anything is needed I can be reached @ [xxx] redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I've been in contact with Nissan regarding this, but they stated that the NHTSA is the Agency responsible for issuing recalls before they would address any vehicle issues outside of warranty. I was told that my vehicle has about $1,500 worth of repairs needed because of some rust/corrosion issues with the rear lower links. After doing a little research, I discovered that there is a recall for this issue, but it only applies to 2013 Altima in the us, but both 2013 and 2014 Altima in Canada. So I wanted to reach out to you and see if you could add a little insight into this and how it makes any sense that there is a known safety issue with the 2014 Altima and so they offer a program like this, but then leave out the 2014 model in the us, but include it in Canada? it's the same model vehicle regardless of if it's in Canada or the us and I feel quite confident that Canada's road salt usage is not significantly higher than Minnesota's. as is evidenced by the fact that my vehicle has this issue and that the 2013 models were included with this campaign for select us states. So if you could add the 2014 Altima in the us to this campaign/recall, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a video showing the issues from walser Nissan if would be helpful. Please advise. The contact's daughter-in-law owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving down a side street she heard a popping noise and had trouble steering the vehicle. An unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact test drove the vehicle and while attempting to reverse, the rear wheel collapsed under the weight of the vehicle. The contact believed that it was the rear lower control arm that was fractured. Nissan 112 (730 medford ave, patchogue, NY 11772, (631) 417-3236) stated that the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

Driving slow in a 25mph neighborhood made a turn heard a clunk thought I had a flat turned around less than a 1/2 a mile back home less than a block. Had I made it to the freeway the results could've been much worse. Called my mechanic and he ordered a part, decided to look and it seems this may be a problem with these cars

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 55 mph, the contact switched lanes and the vehicle began to swerve and shake uncontrollably. The traction control warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the shoulder and called roadside assistance. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and inspected on the flat bed truck. The mechanic noticed that the rear driver's side lower control arm was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Ron bouchard's Nissan (490 old union tpke, lancaster, MA 01523) was contacted. The contact was informed that there were no recalls on the VIN. The vehicle was not drivable. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to contact NHTSA to log a complaint. The contact referenced NHTSA action number: EA19002 (suspension) open investigation for the similarity in the failures stated. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

On 9/9/2020 my wife was driving our 2014 Nissan Altima home from an errand when she felt that the steering was compromised. After arriving home she asked me to drive the car. I proceeded to back out of our driveway and after traveling only about 6' the driver rear wheel 'dropped'. before exiting the vehicle I told her that it felt like the wheel had fallen off. I crawled under the vehicle and found that the rear driver control arm had completely rusted through causing the part to fail. I spoke to Nissan Consumer Affairs and learned that there was not an open recall for the 2014 Altima but there was for the 2013 Altima. I then decided to investigate on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. I learned that the 2013-2018 control arm share a similar design when further reading NHTSA action number ea 19002. I also discovered that there was recall for the 2014 Altima in Canada and we live 17 miles from the Canadian border. I feel that the recall for this part should be expanded to include model year 2014-2018 because of the shared design.

The right rear control arm broke on my vehicle without warning. I was unable to control the car. Fortunately, I was only on a 30 mph road at the time. If I had been driving on the freeway, I most likely would have been seriously injured or possibly killed. There was a recall/replacement program in Canada for this type of issue on the 2014 Nissan Altima, but nothing in the U.S. the repair cost me $730 due to having to drop the rear suspension in order to replace this part which made the job labor intensive. I feel that this type of issue should also be covered in the U.S.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while approaching the off-ramp driving 70 mph, the driver side lower control arm fractured. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the roadway and inspected the vehicle for a possible blowout of the tires however, there were no damage to the tires. Once the vehicle was placed on the flat bed, the contact noticed the driver side control arm was fractured. The vehicle was towed to matthews Nissan (3101 vestal pkwy E, vestal, NY 13850, (607) 729-3511 where it was diagnosed that the lower control arm fractured and needed to be replaced. The repair was still pending. The contact mentioned NHTSA action number: EA19002 (suspension) as a possible solution to the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

  • 89,000 miles
Both the left and right rear control arms cracked due to rusting. My car operates in Ohio, a state that uses salt to clear the roads. All the 2013 models were recalled for this manufacturing defect, however my car was built 9/29/13 at the start of the 2014 production. They were still using the same parts, since at this point they did not know they were defective, but did not recall the cars involved to be repaired. The resulting loss of control could be fatal if it happens on the freeway. Fortunately, my car did not experience that catastrophic level of impact. Howver, if my car was shipped to Canada it would be part of that as they recalled all 2014's. why isn't that the case here as they all came off the same assembly line with the same parts. This needs to be corrected in the U.S. my car started making very loud clunking noises as the parts were cracking and I stopped driving it and had it towed to the dealership. This is a significant safety issue, and Nissan knows it exists, look at onlimne reviews with the number of people having this issue, including your own site, and you can see just how bad this actually is. Please take the steps to expand this recall for the sake of all of us who own this car.

After turning a corner, the car felt like it was being driven on an icy road and the steering wheel was aligned to the right even though the car was being driven on a straight road. Did not drive the car again until it was taken in for repair. Two days later, when driving the car in for repair (about 5 miles away), the driver side rear wheel was wobbling, severely shaking the car. Drove the car only 25 mph. Once at the repair shop, repair needed was for the control arm. Learned the 2013 Nissan Altima models had a recall for the control arm. Our car is a 2014. Problem still exists in later models.
