Rear passenger control arm broke at attachment to car body. One half of the weld shows crack and prior corrosion. I was driving on the expressway and noticed handling issues and car sagging on passenger side. I pulled off to a side street and drove local streets the 4 miles to my home. Control arm broke in my driveway as I was backing up.

In the evening of February 2nd 2021. My daughter was driving home on county road 12 (at a speed of around 50mph) near long lake, mn. She hear a loud sound and the car became more difficult to drive. Thankfully there was an exit that she could take and she stopped the car as soon as this was safe to do. The next day we had the car picked up by aaa and taken to the Nissan dealer (walser in wayzata, mn). They diagnosed that one of the rear control arms had corroded and collapsed, while the other side control arm was corroded and near collapse. Both were replaced at a cost of over $1,700. I checked the internet and noticed that this issue was subject of a recall for cars up to model year 2013 (in the us) and up to 2014 in Canada), recall reference P9324 and that with effect from model year 2018, the manufacturer had changed the construction of the control arms and that this was significant improvement. Reported to Nissan, case report # 430 217 02, who were not helpful. Uploading dealer invoice and several images of the affected parts.

I recently took my 2014 Nissan Altima in for new shocks and struts to my local mechanic. When the mechanic completed the work on the shocks and struts he completed an inspection of other parts of the vehicle and found that the passenger side rear control arm was cracked and the drivers side rear control arm was very rusted and corroded, but he could not find a crack. He then advised me that my vehicle was unsafe to drive. He also advised me that he had replaced numerous Nissan Altima rear control arms before, he was told that Nissan had a campaign to replace rear control arms due to them cracking. I then had my vehicle towed to the local Nissan dealership. After speaking with the service manager he advised me that only 2013 Nissan Altima that are in areas of the country that have salt on the road and 2014 Nissan Altima in Canada are being fixed by Nissan. I have a 2014 Nissan Altima and live in Ohio. Nissan should be expanding their campaign to 2014 vehicles that are having the same issue as the 2013's. luckily, I was not driving my vehicle and my mechanic found the crack during an inspection. If he didn't find it, I along with my family or friends could have possibly been injured if the control arm completely cracked in half and caused me to crash. I hope Nissan isn't waiting for a fatality to consider a recall. $1300 later I am going to pick up my vehicle from the local dealership. Class:19-002 ref#: ntb 19-082 id#: P9324

Driving home at 45 mph on a city street, heard a pop, lost control, was able to drive slow with hazards to repair shop.waning lights came on immediately. Received notification that control arm snapped and other control arm cracked. Google and found safety notice for 2013/2014 for related to states with high road salt. Us and Canada. Us is vague point to only 2013 with Canada stating both 13 and 14. Expensive repair that should be covered by Nissan is very vague to avoid paying these repair cost.. as you can see from the picture, these was defiantly a rust issue caused from road salt. I live in Illinois.

Driving home from work yesterday, while driving 65 on the expressway, I experienced an odd 'shift' in my car, giving an odd swaying sensation'I thought I may have had a flat tire. Since I was close to a gas station, I proceeded roughly a half mile on the shoulder of the road and eventually to the station. Upon inspection I found that a portion of the wheel assembly had completely broken from the frame. I have since learned that Nissan acknowledges the problem and issued a "service campaign" for 2013 Altima in the us but 2013 and 2014 in Canada. Their description of how this part fails is exactly what happened to my car and I live in the "salt belt" that they say contributes to this issue. I have called their Consumer Affairs but was told that they do not recognize this as Nissan's responsibility and are not willing to repair what is already broken or replace what will most likely fail on the other side!

I was driving at about 35mph, hit a small pothole & the rear control arm on the passenger side snapped. Not knowing about the service campaign (that came out in 10/2019- I purchased the car in 02/2020) I took it upon myself to get the part fixed. Almost $500 out of my pocket. Fast forward 10 months, driving 70 on the highway, didn't hit a pot hole or anything... the drivers side snapped. This is clearly a safety issue as I lost control of my car for a solid 15 seconds. How are only the 2014 Altima in Canada eligible for free repairs but a car in NY state is not? I have a case open and will be expecting a call on 02/08. Really hoping Nissan steps up to assist with repairs as this will amount to almost $1,000 in not even a year..

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the rear control arm detached from the rear driver side tire without warning. Due to the defect, the contact began to lose control of the vehicle as the vehicle swayed from side to side. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home where it remained in her possession. The contact called russ darrow Nissan of milwaukee (11212 w metro auto mall, milwaukee, wi 53224) and sent over pictures of the damage where they confirmed that the failure was a defective rear control arm. The contact was then referred to the manufacturer who informed her that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was given a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Vehicle traveling straight on highway at approx. 65 mph. Vehicle jerked in a fishtail manner to the left hand drivers side. I immediately pulled off the highway, discovered a completely flat tire (purchased only 2 weeks ago). Vehicle towed to dealership and was told that rear lower control arm was severely cracked, unsafe to drive. Service member also advised me that this is an ongoing issue with my vehicle and that I needed to go through Nissan usa Consumer Affairs since my vehicle (although the millions of issues on record) to have my repair approved. Vehicle is currently at dealership and I am awaiting Nissan usa Consumer Affairs to call back to address the issue. Vehicle is approx. 7K miles outside of 60K mile warranty.

I have been hearing a clunking sound from rear of car for few years multiple trips to dealers and had them look into noise. The only thing they came up with is the shocks were bad, I replaced them and car still had the clunking sound. I was returning home from trip to store and when entering my driveway off public side road @ about 2mph the drivers side rear control arm broke clean off from the mount bolted to the frame and the tire crashed into the inner fender and twisted to ~45 degree angle. I know that the 2013 has a recall in usa and Canada and Canada also has recall for 2014 for the same problem. If this had broke while I was on expressway 5 minutes earlier this could have caused serious injury to myself and passengers not to mention any body else that could have in my path. When dealer replaced driver side he said that the passenger side needed to be replaced also as it was showing stress cracks. The car is garage kept and located located in Wisconsin I have all the parts that came off the car if anything is needed I can be reached @ [xxx] redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I've been in contact with Nissan regarding this, but they stated that the NHTSA is the Agency responsible for issuing recalls before they would address any vehicle issues outside of warranty. I was told that my vehicle has about $1,500 worth of repairs needed because of some rust/corrosion issues with the rear lower links. After doing a little research, I discovered that there is a recall for this issue, but it only applies to 2013 Altima in the us, but both 2013 and 2014 Altima in Canada. So I wanted to reach out to you and see if you could add a little insight into this and how it makes any sense that there is a known safety issue with the 2014 Altima and so they offer a program like this, but then leave out the 2014 model in the us, but include it in Canada? it's the same model vehicle regardless of if it's in Canada or the us and I feel quite confident that Canada's road salt usage is not significantly higher than Minnesota's. as is evidenced by the fact that my vehicle has this issue and that the 2013 models were included with this campaign for select us states. So if you could add the 2014 Altima in the us to this campaign/recall, it would be greatly appreciated. I have a video showing the issues from walser Nissan if would be helpful. Please advise. Thanks, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The contact's daughter-in-law owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving down a side street she heard a popping noise and had trouble steering the vehicle. An unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel. The contact test drove the vehicle and while attempting to reverse, the rear wheel collapsed under the weight of the vehicle. The contact believed that it was the rear lower control arm that was fractured. Nissan 112 (730 medford ave, patchogue, NY 11772, (631) 417-3236) stated that the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

Driving slow in a 25mph neighborhood made a turn heard a clunk thought I had a flat turned around less than a 1/2 a mile back home less than a block. On 9/9/2020 my wife was driving our 2014 Nissan Altima home from an errand when she felt that the steering was compromised. After arriving home she asked me to drive the car. I proceeded to back out of our driveway and after traveling only about 6' the driver rear wheel 'dropped'. before exiting the vehicle I told her that it felt like the wheel had fallen off. I crawled under the vehicle and found that the rear driver control arm had completely rusted through causing the part to fail. I spoke to Nissan Consumer Affairs and learned that there was not an open recall for the 2014 Altima but there was for the 2013 Altima. I then decided to investigate on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. I learned that the 2013-2018 control arm share a similar design when further reading NHTSA action number ea 19002. I also discovered that there was recall for the 2014 Altima in Canada and we live 17 miles from the Canadian border. I feel that the recall for this part should be expanded to include model year 2014-2018 because of the shared design.
